From being a young boy growing up loving and listening to Country Music. Whilst being told it’s nothing I’m “supposed” to be listening to…or how I’m “Weird” for listening to it. And all by people who looked nothing like me. Seeing the Black representation in this genre heavily built by hands of brass and bronze…as little known as it is. It brings so much joy and reassurance to my heart ❤
With each like, and comment, and view, and play put towards these songs…as well as the lyrics sang in em…remind ppl like me that this community was never a place we DIDN’T belong. Rather just for us. The EVER so MANY others like me 🥲 Thank You
I have been listening to country music all my life. My grandpa would play guitar and sing his heart out all the time. I’ve always known country music, good country music, to be heavily story driven. The black community has stories to tell - deep, meaningful stories. Those stories fit so well within the country genre….its never made sense to me why black artists wouldn’t be welcomed. Music unites. It draws us into stories that are familiar, sure, but it also gives us a window into the stories of others. That’s one of the reasons I’ve always enjoyed rap music and Latin music as well. Those stories give me a way to see from a perspective that is not my own. I’m glad you are seeing the success of these artists and feeling what you’re feeling ❤
country has a lot of blues and rock influence, and black ppl invented those genres, so it makes sense that black folx should be involved in country music. 👍
