Speaking of studies, I found where the mythical "1500-psi" Jaguar bite is from. It's taken from a study from Dr. Hartman-Rose from the US Government-Funded institution called the "NCBI". Studies including a 100-kg Jaguar, 200-kg Tiger and Lion. One from 2005 and another in 2012. The study was conducted using recently-dead animal subjects and with a combination of computer simulations, modeling from their jaw bone and musculature plus how much force can the muscles generate when electrocuted, Bite Force Quotient (BFQ), etc... The same study was used by Van Beesel J at 2021 to measure how much a 408-lbs Silverback Gorilla can theoretically bench press: Turns out, it can generate about 925-lbs of 1 rep-max bench. The Jaguar can Generate 1553-lbf (same calculations as psi), while the Tiger can Generate up to 2015-lbf.The Lion was absent in the 2013 study, but using BFQ from 2 examples at 112-124-BFQ, a 200-kg Lion can theoretically bite as hard as 1768-lbf to 1962-lbf. Not that far off Tigers. My only problem with this study is that it measures the maximum froce the muscles can generate, something the real animal will almost never generate as it's close to the teeth/jaw's breaking point or risks muscular injuries. Expect the real animal to generate 50-70% of the calculated force. Perhaps up to 80%?
So, based on what I said earlier. Here are my ranges on how much these animals can generate with their bites: 220-lbs Jaguar (136BFQ) - 776 to 1242-psi 440-lbs Lion (112BFQ) - 884 to 1414-psi 440-lbs Lion (124BFQ) - 981 to 1569-psi 440-lbs Tiger (127BFQ) - 1007 to 1612-psi The 124BFQ seems more fitting with the Lion since there was a Latin-American documentary where a 450-lbs Lion was witnessed to generate 1485 by pulling a measuring device with their teeth.
