Yes, I am a San Francisco female that evolved with Carlos all the way through Blues for Salvador. Love all the masterpiece albums and his spritual ones like Caravansari and Oneness.
These songs take me back to my childhood ❤. I remember hearing this for the first time when my family and I were on our way to Phoenix to visit one of my brothers. I was born in the late 80s but loved this song and still do
Santana toda una época musical incomparable, introdujo en un mundo dominado por el rock norteamericano e inglés, el ritmo tropical rock, acompañado de buenos músicos. No pasa de moda.
"Festival/ Let the Children Play"...man I was 10 years old when this album came out..and that was 1977! Still one of the best Santana albums, along with Amigos, and Caravanserai.
I thank my Pop's for giving me a good sense of musical direction.blessed to hear this is a totally cookout! Backyard bbQ jam! Thank you for your comment sparking a positive memory in my life ..infinite love❤Gratitude." Ellos tienen que jugar!!"
I had a three year old sister in 1980. I was then 26. She was the 7th and I was the first. I played this song and she remembered the lyric "Let The Children Play" while I remembered how Carlos was playing with the pedal tones.
This song was big in Puerto Rico in the 70s,,,being a New Yorker i remember singing the chorus while dribbling my baskteball to the court " ellos tienen que jugar" let the children play"' memories
I agree with the comments below, this is a superb and almost over looked album, However these tracks are even better realised on the stunning live double Moonflower from 1977. That said to be honest any Santana album from the early 70's right up to Marathon is up there with the best of them. I still spin my original vinyl copies often even today. Thanks mum and dad for forcing me to listen to Santana back then!
Back in the release days, I only had a cassette player. The Moonflower cassette was 90 minutes and sort of stretched after a while from me playing it often.
I must admit I mix my belly dancing classes with salsa dancing as well and it may be alot of work but when u mix the 2 together great workout and a mind blowing dance routine as well.... This takes me back to when I was a kid Dancing to this. Whoever thought I'd be teaching how to dance to this song
I remember hearing this when my brothers would party.. I'm the only sister of"six"brother's I had to stay in my room😁 (OUR MOM WAS AWAY. ON A BUSINESS TRIP)
I wore my "Festival" Albums out, I think I bought about 4 versions of the LPs. All purpose album, I would play, Carnaval, Let the Children Play and Jugando to get into a good mood, I used to record "Give me Love" and "The River" and make cassettes (we used to call creepers) for the girls I really liked in high school, add those songs to Malo's Suavecito on a cassette, next thing you know I had a new girlfriend. "Try Little Harder" from Side 2 I still play when working out on weights. "Revelations" for sipping tequila (Casa Noble) and reflecting on life and finding my spiritual center, and Maria Caracoles, I used to jam out to when my mother would yell at me to clean up my room. Love Festival!
this l.p i played the day i got married 1978 why cuz my ex and i were teens i was 18 ahe was 14 she got pregnant so i had to be married which i did ,so to me was a special song to play it and still in deep in my heart
Yo les digo Caballeros que Los ninios se deben jugar, ayos tienen que jugar.Let the children play, one of my favorite Santana songs to see live in person, Awesome!!
Santana's music is as complex as classical music. Its amazing what a dedicated musician can do with music typically considered less.... Artistic I suppose.
i have to say... this is awesome music and it takes me back as i used to listenm to this alot as a kid. And let the children play is almost like a good tango at some places.
My brother played every album to me yrs ago I'm 62 now, and when my kids were growing up I played Santana to them and now my grd kids, and hope one day they will carry on always have my youngest grd kids dancing around to fesival.
I've never heard anyone play like he does in this song. Especially in Jugando at about 6:36, ive never heard anyone else with a sound like that. Does anyone else know of something like that? I wanna hear more songs like this.
Probably the closest person I can think of that has a similar sound at times is Al di Meola, a guitar giant in his own right. Listen to his "Race with Devil on Spanish Highway" - definitely a very Santanaesque sound. I will say he is more of a Jazz fusion stylist (although he can play anything) - and he does vary his sound.
around 6:36 it's actually keyboardist Tom Coster, so that's maybe why you haven't heard a guitar player sound like that. The recommendation of Al DiMeola above is a good one though, the album "Elegant Gypsy" is the place most people start which contains the song jimraw1 refers to above.
@114680318990593989999 That's a synthesizer...probably either a 70s Minimoog or Arp Odyssey. Tom Coster used both that year. If you like that sound, just get into 70s jazz fusion or progressive rock. Albums by George Duke, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea's Return to Forever group, YES and ELP (emerson lake & palmer) albums. Tons of moog and arp solos on those. Early to mid 70s albums are best...late 70s albums got more watered down and disco-ish with less soloing.
+Reed McLaughlin Try Emerson Lake and Palmer "Tarkis" the Moog Synthesizer king Kieth Emerson really florish, but also look up Rachel Flowers (13 year old blind girl) version of of Tarkis on Emersons Moog Synthesizer its amazing.
I heard this medley on the Moonflower album, call me crazy but the jump into Let The Children Play is very anticlimactic. Moonflower had more punch to it
thanks for a reply to my comment, but I only like some of their stuff! you would be supprised what I would like? Santana IN MY opinion were good only very early 70's, ah well?
I'm 66 and listening this magnific music today from one of the best from Latín America.
His best work for me. A straight play-through album. Every track is a gem.

Yes, I am a San Francisco female that evolved with Carlos all the way through Blues for Salvador. Love all the masterpiece albums and his spritual ones like Caravansari and Oneness.
What a memory you must have of your time with him.
To this day, still one of the best songs ever created. So uplifting, powerful and original. There has never been another like it
These songs take me back to my childhood ❤. I remember hearing this for the first time when my family and I were on our way to Phoenix to visit one of my brothers. I was born in the late 80s but loved this song and still do
What an album - Carlos Santana one of the greatest guitarists of all-time... Always played with a top-notch band to....
Santana toda una época musical incomparable, introdujo en un mundo dominado por el rock norteamericano e inglés, el ritmo tropical rock, acompañado de buenos músicos. No pasa de moda.
I haven't heard this song in forever. As a kid my mom used to blast this and sing the whole song word for word.
"Festival/ Let the Children Play"...man I was 10 years old when this album came out..and that was 1977! Still one of the best Santana albums, along with Amigos, and Caravanserai.
I thank my mother for playing Santana as I grew up and I thank the man himself for making some of the best music of all time

That moment at 2:18 when he hits the riff blows me away every time!
Totally agree! Amazing that change!!!
+DaveyKrechtner For me it is at 3.27. He turns on another pickup and steps on the wah. The tone change !

anyway, I've always preferred the live version on Moonflower, but still amazing.
+Reed McLaughlin, "Moonflower" does give them a certain extra magic.

I remember listening to this album whenever I spent the weekend at my aunt's and uncle's house back in the early 80s

Hardly need to qualify it with "Latin."
