Holy crap... This clip from 1989. It was uploaded 17 years later on TH-cam, in 2006. Here I am watching this clip another 17 years later, in 2023. This means this clip is about to be on TH-cam longer than it wasn't. I'm getting old.
I’m so happy Uncle Ralph is finally getting his flowers after all these years it’s LONG OVERDUE
Uncle Ralph needs to be honored by being awarded Presidential medal of freedom!!
OMG!!! Talk about going down memory lane as a NYC teenager in High School in the 1980's.. Those were the best of times and the best music and era ever!
That brings back memories of my youth in the streets of brooklyn
That was the shit. I use to love that opening back in the day, never grew tired of it. Great to see the show showcase the artists that were popular during that to and to also pay homage to the legends (Kendricks, Ruffin, Hendrix, and Marley).
Loved the intros. Brings back so many memmories. Thise who remember VMB wouldd air 3:30pm and couldn't get to a tv? No fear, it would repeat at 11pm Monday thru Thursday, Friday @ 11:30pm - Midnight. Saturday @ 11am.
That was the fresh out the hood hip hop show !! that real New York flavor. Wow.. you just took me back 30 years ago. Priceless.
Video Music Box was the greatest thing to happen for NYC hip hop!!! Even if you wasn't from NYC, if your video was viewed on the show you was good.
And all these youngins who don't know who Uncle Ralph is, they are not real hip hop!!
i used to love this .. i watched it every day after school
I can remember being 4 years old watching this. This show is literally my life.it basically raised me. we were born the same year.
I remember these days damn I miss my younger day I remember when I used to come home afterschool do all my home and at 4 turn to channel 31 and watch video music box I never missed a episode
Even if you did? It would repeat after 11:30pm on the weekdays and Saturday morning.
Word mami! That was the realness when I used to run home from school to catch it on Ch. 31 back in Queens! Man, I just turned 30 yrs old and it STILL feels like only yesterday when I watch this intro. GOOSEBUMPS!...Haha. Much respect to Crazy Sam and Uncle Ralph McDaniels.
Yes I had a rabbit ears antenna TV. I got for my birthday like in 1988 and I actually didn't come across video music box till like '92 or so
First time I saw vmb was in 1990 when I was 6 and got hooked watched it every day after school (and homework of course mom made sure)
Classic. Been watching VMB since I was 5. Ralph McDaniels will always be the GOAT - Legendary...
Wow does that bring back memories!
Best hip hop video show ever ill always rem how great this was back in my teens👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Channel 31...Video Music Box...damn I want these days back
I love to listen and watch the videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Eff mtv, this was the realest hip hop show.
Silly kid, let me guess you from the Midwest. MTV didn't even want to play hip hop and rap so you're wrong.
0:22 i miss that so much i was 6 when this came out i want my days back so badly
Video music box was the best program to listen to your favorite music
man i miss video music box..wish there was more of it on youtube
Same here I watch it as much as I could. When you consider it was on a channel that was so far off the beaten path. It had to be good for so many people to have found there way to it. Thanks Ralph
TRI STATE STAND UP.. Rap would never have made it if not for UNCLE RALPH
b7k1l8yn say that!!! Unsung hero of hip hop, that show facilitated a whole era.
This video is excellent ! 😊
Old school memories..bk to the fullest!!
Well, it has been 18 years since this clip...
Tell me about it. To me it's was better than most of the other video channel anyway. A TRUE classic for anyone who REALLY grew up around the origins of hip hop. Now, if you can remember the PREVIOUS opening for VMB then you are a TRUE Hip hop VET.
I want my childhood back! NOW!!!!!!!
omg i remember coming home from daycare and watching this with my oldest brother on our old ass floor model tv lol. he taped every episode. damn this brought me be back...I LOVE UNCLE RALPH!!!
this takes me back. word this was the best do. Ralph McDaniels!!!

East Coast hip hop owes alot to this man.He s a Legend.

Big up to Ralph McDaniels for playing my Video "Bad To The Bone"! Gave me 5 minutes of fame😂
@thebronxnyc Me too man! God i miss those days! Peace!
did u know that this show still airs in NYC?! I have met Ralph McDaniels...he is still giving new & up & coming hip hop & r&b artist a shot. My video "Hustle" was just played on his show last week.
No way!!! Oh sh-! Wow! Dam took me home!!
I miss my time so much television use to be so educational
oh i am totally gonna post it tomorrow. Ralph looked so young in 1989!
wow i feel like i just stepped out of a time machine! thanks!
I wanna cry. Brings back soooo many memories. And damn I miss channel 31! I remember the italian show that came on right after WMB.
I remember setting the VCR's timer recording to tape various UEFA Cup, Cup Winners Cup, and European Cup matches that would take place on the Rai International programming they had on channel 31 around 2:30PM. It would always feature an Italian team since Rai was paying for it. Between those games & VMB and some other programs, it was a cool channel. They would show Serie A calcio matches on Sunday mornings too.
this is still on the air friday nights
wooooooooooooooow cant belive you have the intro. channel 31 i miss those days. damn i want to go back.
I miss Video Music Box.
I remember VMB. I used to watch it from time to time.
Those were the good 'ole days!
Memories, memories, memories 😀😀😀
i'm so glad we agree! :) I remembered when i was 17 I would babysit a family friend's two boys and VMB would come on; enjoyed those times soo much!
I remembered the announcement from one of the Chinese documentary shows (Sinovision I believe), that the station was to be sold; I hoped it was a joke!
now to find the japanese/chinese or korean soap operas would be a difficult feat! I live to watch them!
I definitely witnessed V.M.B. from the fall of 1992 through the spring of 1996. This show had a lot to offer such as spotlighting underground artists and showing a lot of old and new school videos. It even shown some videos from the house music genre, i think.
It's funny how the song five minutes of funk always reminds me of video music box every time I hear it. Does anyone remember another show called Video trax which used to come on channel 25 every Friday.
wow i didnt know that was david ruffin and eddie kendricks...learn a new thing everyday...damn i miss this show. brings back so many memories. weekdays at 4 on public access manhattan
wow, so many memories.. good memories. I watched Video Music Box all the time
I

Used to watch this everyday after school!!!
Video Music Box comes on the air late night Saturdays @ 12 am on WNYE, channel 25
Bobby Simmons and "Flava Videos"...ahh man, another great show. Now, if anyone can get some clips of that up on here!!
Taking me back to the early 90's got home from school 4:30 put on vmb omg best experience ever
Hell yeah, I remember this. his was back when Video Music Box was the Hip-Hop show to watch in NYC. And it was even cooler back then because it wasn't just limited to Hip-Hop. They played stuff from way back like Jimi and JB, and even some New Wave stuff that crossed over like A-Ha and Talking Heads, and the pop stuff like Prince and Madonna. They were hip to showing good music.
Vid Kid was his partner Lionel Martin, who used to work at Tri Boro Record Store on 165th street right off of Jamaica Avenue in Queens, N.Y..
damn...mad memories of rushing home from school just to see this!!!
had to come from school so i wouldn't miss it sweet to see it again thanks
a true classic
First show i ever remember seeing on T.V.is VMB from my early memories in life.My older brothers had me watching.
yoooooo great memories!!!!
omg i remember coming home from day care and watching this wit my oldest brother on our old ass floor model tv lol. he used to tape every episode...damn this brought me back.
oh my god this takes me back to when i lost my two front teeth. i used to love seeing the drawings from the take on me video, and hearing don't disturb this groove.
i remember the old Channel 31 (if you live in NYC) showing VMB back in the day. felt like yesterday. a lotta old school/underground rap made it big off this show. if you made VMB, you're going places for sure...
It still comes on Saturday night on channel 5
i like the grosso "OOOOHHH!!!" into the telephone
Yea, man, rush home from school to catch Uncle Ralph.
Jamaica High School!!!! I miss the Coliseum Block.
I miss this damn show. I grew up on this. lord have mercy. i feel so old and im only 27 ..lol definitely not 106 & Park, but it was way better. especially the shout outs at the club
Back in days what was it Monday-Thursdays 4 to 5 pm;-)) ahhhh da days.
*sobs* me too!
cool, i love this
this was when we used dials to change channels, i think it was well on timewarner in Manhattan, it was a big ass dial with number
i'm glad we agree! :)
Real NY!! Miss those days!!
Especially to see which new videos came out!
Wow, memories! Oh man, this takes back me to afternoons on the couch after school. I was always confused as a kid, though, why they had all these pop videos in the intro, but never showed pop videos!
If you grew up with out cable in NY this was MTV! And it was much better. Uncle Ralphie, Chuck Chillout and Crazy Sam. Great Vid
Haha....Channel 31!!!! the inro with that Whoodini instrumental!!
Our past is so much endlessly cooler than this early Century. Dropping mainstream corporate hip hop immediately is vital for recovering said coolness
I've been missing these episodes. I hope to catch one before the year is out.
I remeber running home from jumior high to catch this
Haha, I didn't undersand a word of the chinese dramas, shows, but I watched them anyway; the Japanese soap operas/shows I loved on Saturday morning/afternoons because they had subtitles! Best of all I loved Video Music Box! :)
"Five Minutes of Funk" is the name of the song. That has been mentioned before here; all you needed to do was scroll down the messages to find the answer.
Man I used to LOOVe this show when I was little! U also helped me find a video I was looking for for years....the one with the guy kissed the girl and they are rolling..what is tha name of that song???? I used 2 like it wen I was little. Man LOVED this show...grew up on it too.
Does anyone remember the cable show "Goldie's Hot Raps" ?That was another great cable hip hop variety show from the 80's NYC.
Uncle Ralph McDaniels was the universal babysitter for kids that grew up in nyc during the 80's and 90's after school.
