  • What started as a joke test, turned into something very cool with my GPS radio link. I found that I could play the FSK tones into a speaker and just use the radio's microphone held up to the speaker to transfer the data to the remote receiver. When I got the volume loud enough and the microphone close enough, the accuracy was very good.
This is a standalone device that does not require being connected to the radio in any way. It gives you the very precise accuracy of a Garmin gps that can be launched for example, out of a 100W VHF mobile radio, allowing easy location sharing in thick forest.
With the GPS NMEA checksum error detection, you don't have to worry about partial or incorrect decodes. If the received signal is poor enough, or the mic isn't in the right spot, etc., you won't get a decode.
This GPS FSK encoder is for analog radios only. FSK will not cross the Ambe+2 vocoder. Getting serial data across P25 is not available at this time, but it may come in the future.
