Love watching your videos. My father enjoys watching . He sold John Deere off and on . Had many logging customers. He also was at the unveil of the 740A skidder.
I still enjoy these videos so much. I have been down and in treatment like you for last few months. It is going well. Hope you are too. I am still trying to get into your area as I visit family in Dirrider. Would love to watch this slick operation in person
This is Griffith logging and son i have been logging 19 years i love thein i come help you brother yell are doing a good job he is doing a good job on that cutter
Every logger watching this shakes there head and laughs seeing that skidder hug a tree... classic!! Thinning trees I must say takes patience and skill.... I'm lacking one of those😜!! Your posse does a great job even though it's modern logging.... I on the other hand cable skid and use a chainsaw.... load my my truck with an excavator and get one load out every two days... real competition eh Thomas... take care and still waiting for miniature lobster fest!!
Stupid question but how often do you pressure wash the radiators. Seems like every couple thousand hour’s depending on how dry and dusty it is we have to power wash the radiators. Always makes a difference
At one point it was my dad running his hydro_ax 411 and my aunt running the cat 525 skidder me running a prentice 210 loader and my brother was the truck driver. We were a small crew doing first and second thinnings for Hunt timber. We were in Summerfield Louisiana
When you're thinning, do you make all the decisions about which trees to cut and which to leave, or how much landowner input do you accept? For instance, if someone said "Take only trees below 12 inch diameter", could you do that? Or if they have a mixed stand and he said, "I love cedars, don't cut any cedars", would you do that?
I’m enjoying your vidjas. It’s always interesting watching the different logging styles loggers use in other parts of the country. Here in the upper peninsula of michigan a lot of guys have gone with ponsse scorpions with a dangle head to cut down, limb, and cut to 100” logs. Then a forwarder comes through to pick it up and stage it at the deck for the trucks.
ok I think I see, that length prob best fit for forwarder too then correct? just that odd (to me) measurement caught my eye and made me think maybe you were doing dimensional lumber starting at source. not a logger here, just live in maine and see/hear/interact with a lot of the industry.
What does a person need to operate one of these machines like a Feller Buncher or Skidder? Is there a certification or license you have to acquire before an outfit like yours will hire?
Nice size timber on that job! You are right about missing the sounds of real engines working. I miss hearing Detroit’s screaming but I don’t want to be on one all day nowadays! I also miss hearing E6 Mack’s pulling.
G'day. Was wondering what temperature the 822 ran at in comparison to the 853? Also is there much difference in boom and slew power. You mentioned the 822 wouldn't swing a bunch around through the heads to get unstuck. Enjoyable videos as usual Cheers

Heres a little trick that you may of knew but operator could have pulled up turning hard right and putting back tire against tree. Then when he gets against tree stop put blade down and spin skidder while turning back to left and it will spin right off that tree. Oh when you blade down make sure try take most pressure off front end so when spin it will slide. Never thinned much but works great in middle Tennessee mountain side.
Thomas you might have a wiring problem with your track cutter have they checked any of that yet I mean I’m just saying trying to help you troubleshoot a little bit but that would be my next thing to go to after everything they’ve done to it and it still running hot I mean who knows it could be just a wire causing you to have a false reading on your temperature gauge
I was a forester for over forty years and we all ways had a contractor do all the dozer and rock hauling for our loggers. Now run the cranes unloading log trucks.
Hear the turbo whistlin and it boiling black smoke on some when you workin it hard. Now the only thing you hear is a fan or sounds sometimes like a baby electric air comperssor
The only thing harder would be cutting with a chainsaw cutting five foot pulpwood and piling it then loading with a stick loader. Y'all are doing a great job taking care of the standing trees and the ground .
greg joyner probably because he didn’t want to get hit by a tree or something else the cutter could throw from the saw head. Or a limb breaking out of another tree Thomas is smart for staying back behind it.
Enjoyed the show, but sometime I'm going to figure out what the JD track cutter head saws into when dropping a load of trees to the ground. Don't see it as a problem, but just find it interesting that it happens often. Sure don't take Thomas talk to be complaining. Observations yes, complaining no. But entertaining for certain.. tks..
People just don’t think, thinnings are going to be harder got more planning, what to cut what not to cut, etc it’s not like a clear cut let’s throw a deck here and knock it all down .
So all I got to do to come try out nice new equipment is say “that looks easy I could do that no problem” lol? Too bad I’m not a dick and understand the business enough to realize there is a lot to thinning. Up here I do all kinds of types of cutting everything from clear cuts to thinning to just getting the land owner the most possible money from the job and everything in between depending on landowners desires. Thinning is the hardest to do and requires the most planning for sure
Man I wish we ran track cutters we have to cut all the brush thinning or clearcut and that really takes the wind out of your sails with the Prentice we run expecially dueled out. Man the 648L really ain't got nothing on that 7

I didn’t get it on video, but mine done it in exactly two drags. That’s 32 tons, not 27-28 tons too. The Tigercat I have won’t hold onto a full drag in this stuff, it slips out every time.
I would love come down and how you what that 620 will actually do with a 19sqft grapple with the box tongs like that John Deere..imma make you a believer one of these days 😂😂😂
No matter the size of the tree with a fork or not a hand cutters or equipment operators worst nightmare is a widow maker coming down hitting the cutters or busting up something on the equipment. Caused many a good logger to be carried out of the woods.
I don’t believe that for one second that John Deere pulled that in just 3 pulls there looked to be a lot of room left in the grapple I’d have to do it for myself to ever believe it but my 630 tigercat with 635 grapple will pull a load in 3 pulls
You have to take into consideration that he wasn't doin any sorting..whatever came up went on the truck.. our 630 with 21 square foot grapple will load it in two drags with its all the same size wood
So as a non-operator, if I tell you that you suck at thinning, you'll let me come show you how it is done? Hahaha after you teach me how to run the machine of course! Thanks for the video and knowledge Sir.

they cutting to 8 ft 4 inches there on site (you said 100 inches) to process as 8 ft studs/lumber?
D Mac We run our logs cross wise like That Chipper Guy down the road. Most of our wood goes to paper or OSB plywood.
ok I think I see, that length prob best fit for forwarder too then correct? just that odd (to me) measurement caught my eye and made me think maybe you were doing dimensional lumber starting at source. not a logger here, just live in maine and see/hear/interact with a lot of the industry.
D Mac You are correct. Plus our log roads are tight so they use a truck with log loader and pull a pup so they can make the corners deep in the woods.
