I love the Juno Reactor version, but I have to say, I would have loved this as well. And I have to admit this sounds way more like the original Matrix movie, which gives me a good feeling. But I still think I like the Juno Version a bit better, it's just so upbeat.
It look's like directors want more crazy fast tempo and this is a limit of orchestra capabilities. So Ben Watkins and Don Davis collaborate to bring "Burly Brawl" in known shape.
All have sinned and so all are worthy of death and deserve hell, for God’s standard is perfection and none of us could meet it by doing good deeds. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” But God loved us so much that He sent His Son to die in our place as a substitutionary atonement for our sins. He is the only way to Heaven that God has provided. If you believe in Him, then you will be saved. John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
FUNNY! Because I literally said the exact same to myself when I listened to this rendition. But yes, I also think it was a better choice that they went with the "Juno Reactor & Don Davis Version". It just highlights even more the intensity which I think was necessary for this whole sequence.
It’s funny how much the music can change the tone of a scene... In the original the music was fun and energetic, which inversely made Neo seem like he had more of a fighting chance. In this the stakes of the fight seem much more real, yet I’d argue the original music fits better as the on screen action reflects that better

This track has such a relentless, breathless pace! I imagine it must have been hard work for the brass players to keep from passing out to play so many notes so rapidly, especially within the first minute! The brass also takes on a strangely comical rumbling timbre at 1:17, was wondering if any music nuts could explain how trumpets can make such an odd noise?
It was an amazing job performed by Malcolm McNab, the principal trumpet player with Jerry Goldsmith or John Williams, and the other trumpet players. They're the best.
The "Multiple Replication" portion of the alternate Burly Brawl score fits cohesively with some of the stuff we hear with Smith in this film. I also cannot stress enough how ambitious this piece is. Like, it should've stayed for that reason for alone.
I love the final version in the film, but this sounds much more urgent and frantic, which could have counteracted some of the inherent goofieness in the scene.
Yes! I agree absolutely with that - the film version of this track gave the scene an unwanted video-game quality, which do not compliment the sub-PS2-graphics CGI that litters much of this fight sequence :D

Incredible. I never knew about this original version. I must say, when two geniuses collide they make something incredible even more fantastic. The film version remix suits better and is a much more elevated piece.
I understand why they used the other score, it fits better, but this one sounds more intense and makes it sound like Neo is in trouble fighting so many of them!
Wow, yesterday I listened to the original chateau score. Even though I like what we got, I definitely prefer Davis' orchestral scores for both these fights and the ending scene of the original scene. They create more cohesion with the rest of the trilogy and sound more like epic movie scores. #restorethedaviscut anyone? XD
There's brass musical instruments. The late John Barry used a lot of brass. Barry also wrote jazzy melodies. He also did a cover of Walk, Don't Run by The Ventures.
John Barry was originally also the sole composer of _The Golden Child_ starring Eddie Murphy. Murphy did the hit song "Party All the Time" with Rick James. And Rick James did a lot of cocaine.
Whoa, I like this waaaay better. It has actual tension. The final version in the film had no threat in it at all. It was just "Look at this cool fight! Aw yeah!" and nothing else.
You can see that they must’ve fine-tuned the editing of the movie so the strikes hit the beat of the Davis/Juno Reactor version rather than the hammer strikes in this one, but the main moments still sync up perfectly.
I find this far superior to Juno Reactor. Granted, Don Davis did things that I would consider experimental at the time. But, he maintained a scene amazingly well with frantic trumpets.
I enjoy both versions but the one we got in the final cut makes more sense musically speaking. But this would had been interesting to hear this in the actual film. Either version works in all honesty.
I'm really glad they cut the bells. Made it sound too whimsical/cheesy. Juno Reactor turned a great track into a masterpiece. They don't get enough credit.
I imagined this in the deleted final act, which had Neo flying away until he feels something tug at his coat. And another thing. And anither thing. And another thing. And yeah, you get the picture. Neo goes into a flying FRENZY to get them off of him

Maybe it's because of the lack of sound effects, but I feel like this track is sort of... disconnected from the action. It's got the lovely wind flourishes, but the sparse percussion takes some of the wallop out of the scene for me. It's like the horns are sometimes frantic in sections of the scene where less is happening on-screen. Like they're reaching for something without quite grasping it. Which might be the point, I'm not sure! It's also weird hearing the horns reaching almost climactic pitch barely 30 seconds into the fight. That intensity only appears at the very end of the Release version of the Burly Brawl, so it felt out of place to me here. I should go find some more fight scenes with primarily wind instrument OSTs, see if there's some connective tissue I'm not picking up. Thanks for assembling this!
I think that the music isn't well synchronized with the movie, some parts should definitely be synched with the cuts and some of the pubches. The music most of the time precedes them. Edit The last part of the scene as showed in theaters contains the last part of this track and if you compare it to this video you can spot the reason why it feels slightly out of synch. Just look at 5:22
I don't know. This just doesn't have the energy nor fits the tone of the actual Burly Brawl track. This sounds like someone who's trying to speed up a John Williams track.
This is a great track, but it sounds more like a quick beat-em-up type of track, not an extended scene. Despite this feeling from me, it doesn't disapoint.

At least we got this one in the Enter the Matrix game when you are running from all the Smiths... which gave the game finally some tension!

The fact that it sounds like a sped up version of the track from Neo and Smith’s first fight makes it all the more amazing.
I like it a lot, in some ways it’s better in certain places, but ultimately I love what we got instead
