There could be another reason too: Altair is only appearing in Desmond's dream. This means that the mechanic of fast climbing, which is implemented only in the new Animus, isn't interpreted by Desmond's brain, maybe due to a recent use, and thus not being used enough to it.
Altair clutched the entire guild and jumped out of the maassive Masyaf castle window 2 stories down and escaped with his son, at the age of 62. that man succumbed to age only in his 80's 😂
Also, Acc.. to lore it was Altair (or his followers) who later invented the glove thingy written in codex during his exile for fast climb without that he can't do high catch while climbing

@@brunovsky_ you can achieve extra height and speed in AC 1 and 2 by going for a ledge climb up a wall where there is no ledge to speak of and then right before an animation would play of Altair/Ezio grabbing at nothing and falling back down to the ground you can cancel out of it by leaping to either side and Altair/Ezio will step off the wall and jump to any post or hanging element he can grab at the side. In the dream sequence you have to perform this move to get up a certain tower as there is a wooden post too high to simply jump up to and with no regular climbable objects nearby.
