Wie ab 2:43 ganz natürlich eine tiefe unaussprechliche Freude hervorquillt, hat mich sehr berührt! Natürlich ist das von Mendelssohn so komponiert - beim demütig-ernsten Gebet gleichzeitig die Freude im erfüllten Glauben, aber ohne eine organische und empfundene Aufführung kommt das nicht so beglückend herüber. Ich bin sehr gespannt auf die kommenden Aufführungen des neuen Thomas-Kantors! Danke fürs Posten!

Was in this church in September, 2018. Beautiful. Went to a ceremony that evening. I was able to understand most of it. It is located right near Bach's birthplace.
His birthplace is Eisenach, almost 240 km away from this church, locatet in Leipzig. Bach's remains are still there.

Die Jungs wirken etwas unkonzentriert, vielleicht waren sie emotional von der Situation der Trauerfeier für einen so bedeutenden Musiker überfordert? Dennoch singen sie wunderschön!
Thank you. A wonderful performance made murky and distant by perhaps the acoustics of the church itself? Every time I hear a performance recorded in the Thomaskirche I am underwhelmed and disappointed. I don't know why. Maybe the choir should perform in the Gewandthaus; the acoustics would be better? -- At any rate, I used to say this choir was a bunch of soccer boys hauled from the playing field. That was true then I think but it is wrong now. Still, Thomanenchor Leipzig, you have some way to go to rival the choirs of St. Paul's London or the Abbey. That is your ambition I am sure and you will get there. -- How uncomfortable to report this uncomfortable message. Nonetheless. Reporting in here and now just to say: you have a long yard to travel yet but we know you can do it so YOU GO NOW THOMANENCHOR Leipzig! We love you we really do and YES YOU CAN
