    Love this album . It is incredibly heavy , and strange . It's just wierd that Scorpions , and UFO were so similar early on . Michael Schenker left Scorpions , joined UFO , and both bands changed . UFO in the latter 1970s sounded like early 1980s Scorpions . Guess it just took Scorpions a few years to catch up with a style UFO pioneered in the 1970s . Hard to believe that the same band that recorded Flying in 1971 would create the song Too Hot to Handle in 1977 . As well as Scorpions - Inheritance in 1972 then Catch Your Train 1977 . Just bizarre both bands were responsible for some of the trippiest strange music , and some of the most straight ahead down to Earth hard rock as their careers progressed .

    This second album by UFO is dynamite. Much more complex than UFO 1 it utilizes styles from a few bands. Call it experimental, trippy, whatever you choose. It uses plenty of Hendrix and his pioneering of wawa and echo effects, Sabbaths heavy basing, The Who, and even a little early Nugent. Phil Moog was developing his vocal style and it would still be two years before Michael Schenker would make his vinyl appearance. Many people hadn't even heard of UFO before Phenomenon, but this album is definitely worth going back for.RECOMMENDED FOR YOU.

      I have been listening to this for years. I am surprised that you mentioned bands that this album was similar too , I was almost in a state of shock when Ten Years After wasn't mentioned in the list. While early UFO was original, it was like Krokus was to AC/DC, UFO was to Ten Years After. In particular the Cricklewood Green album, but I prefer UFO because of the Space Rock aspects

    I haven't listened to this for years. (I had it on vinyl back in the early 70's). I am revisiting the old UFOs in honor of Phil's 70th birthday. Although it is very much of it's time, it still sounds pretty good.

    I hear a lot of Tony Iommi in the leads. Which is not bad at all. Perfect tone, it fits with the song and Bolton isn't trying to jam as many notes as he can in a second. I love UFO and I really love their first two albums!

    I saw the band live as opening act for Edgar Winter in Akron Ohio at the Civic Theater. mid 70's, no exact year I can come up with. Anyway, their performance made me a fan, having never heard of them before. They did Silver Bird dressed up in silver space suits and jamming around a strobe light on the stage floor with fog all around. What a trip.

    A question to anyone who owns this on vinyl: How can this be one hour if vinyl would never go over 45 minutes? I can't think of any other album in the 60's or 70's that was on one LP that would go on for 60 minutes.
    Side note, I love every song on this album.

    • @atlasking6110
      @atlasking6110 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lots of vinyl went over 45 minutes but you were supposed to turn the volume up to compensate for loss of volume. Some other really long albums just off the top of my head, from my own collection: the first Todd Rundgren's Utopia album, just about all of Genesis's albums from Selling England by the Pound up to Duke, just about every Klaus Schulze album.

      Atlas King Thanks. I was born in the mid 80's and I only know vinyl from my dad playing them but never really owned any of my own. I own lots of albums digitally from the 60's and 70's and have never encountered one until I got to this brilliant album. None of the other ones I own (maybe 50 or so) exceeded 45 minutes.

      I had it! Yes, it was 30 minutes each side! And yes, it was not so dynamic! Please do not listen to all the trolls here. In the 70‘ k-tel and arcade sold Sampler with 20 Songs per Record! 1 full hour!!!!!!!!!!!! But you had less bass and less volume, that is right.

    Jeff T. The anwser to your question is compression...not UFOs fault other bands could only come up with 8 or 10 3min songs for a lp.

    I get that this album is "Out There", but it's simply magnificent - the drummer is on point all the way through, but the guitar work is stunning. Truly Psychedelic, probably as much so as any other band, period. It's just a pity that it was too "Out there" for most people to appreciate it at the time.

    i really used to think this was great. But playing it again today, having 'flying' on in the background, i can understand why they never tried to repeat it and instead went on to make good rock music. flying is just a row with that horrible wailing guitar all the way through. horrible .sorry to its fans but most of it is an irritating dirge.

    • @atzengruber
      @atzengruber 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      splodgy ness " Flying" is a gem in its own right, like the rest of the album. I loved it when I first listened to it 45 years ago and I still love it today. It all depends on what your preferences are, but for me the " good rock music" you are writing about was just too commercial for my taste.
