  • In my Hypertufa Marathon, I made a ridged hypertufa planter and it turned out so well. The ridges are perfect and I love it. I wanted a Foxtail Fern to plant in it and I got it at a recent plant shopping trip.

    Thank You Very Much Ma'am!
I was growing increasingly agitated with videos about this plant. Nobody explained it what the tubers were; and the ones that did, they were speaking Spanish and others Hindi.
I just bought mine yesterday, and it too was wanting to bust out of the pot, and 3 inches deep under the pot.
I found myself reporting to your video. I even laughed about the no gloves comment, but I was thinking the same thing. 🤣. That's truly the epitome of what being in Sync means!!
    Thank You Again Ma'am!

There are tubers on this type of Asparagus fern and they are really pot fillers as you can see.

With growth the fronds twist and turn so beautifully as they lengthen. You do have to be careful that the tubers don’t crack the planter as they expand, depending on the type of planter. I love this fern!

They sure do! And split that nursery pot to ribbons. I will be sure to divide before they outgrow this pot. They really look awesome to put out for spring this year. Overwintered wonderfully. I will need to do a quick update, won't I?

That bad boy has some tubers! I used to plant the asparagus ferns and they also have the tubers. I never thought of keeping them over the winter. Very pretty!

They are great over the winter, shed some when you bring them inside, but if you have a great spot with light, they do well. If not they can be kept inside a warmer basement/barn/garage and then sheared off in spring. New growth comes out easily. Love the fresh new growth. Thanks, Vicki, for watching.

I bought one of these a month ago, and it had no soil in the plastic cube. One month later, after re-potting, plenty of new growth, and flowers.

Wow, sounds like you rescued it just in time. Congrats on the flowers too. Mine have some red berries right now but is growing so much, I need a bigger pot before it splits this hypertufa!

What about the cuttings, not in dirt, fell off original plant

Renee Hall, As far as I know, you can't root those branch cuttings but the tubers can be planted for new growth. The berries will also contain seeds if you have the patience for that route.
