      @@AdamHugill It's Saturday, Sept 8th 2019 and since you were in the military it's 17:20 hr here in Atlanta, Georgia. USA. I just finished watching this video. You look so much more professional with a clean-shaven face and the haircut. It reminded me of another TH-cam blogger that I subscribed to by the name of Ryan Van Duzer. He shaves every morning which intern makes him look very well kept. When I came here to the comment column I discovered that Ryan is a subscriber to your channel also. I subscribed to your channel a couple of days ago while researching "The Dalton Highway" for a bike trip I hope to make in a couple of years. I apologize that this might be running a little bit long but just wanted to tell you that my brother and I are the caregivers for our 97 year old mother. I take care of her from the time I arrive home from work till I leave for work the next morning and all weekend. I feel extremely grateful that I have an opportunity to do this for her. At supper time we no longer watch TV but instead we watch blogs on TH-cam and just so you know you are now on our evening watch list. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

    Love seeing the excitement on your face Adam whilst your on those two wheels, it's inspiring. My wife and I have cycled through the Indian Himalayas, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Nepal and Japan but Korea is our absolute favourite place and have cycled from Seoul to Busan and then up the East Coast to the DMZ and the food, people, scenery and infrastructure are just amazing. If you end up in Australia and wind up in Perth we'd love to show you round!

      It sound like you’ve seen some wonderful places by bike. The pull of the Americas is strong at the moment but Australia (including Perth) will happen at some point. It wouldn’t be a world bike tour without cycling Australia.

    Its 3 am I have watched many of your vids over the last six hours. I stopped this to type at 2:35 of the video. I am 47 yo this month. In 96 I was an IFOR member. Etsed in 99. Tried to go back in 03. I was turned away. Anyway in 96 I drove a hmmv through bosnia. That made me really feel for all of you. I had seen the after effects of war. So I can only imagine what it would have been like to fight, 3 ppl I knew were killed. There is a tear running down my face and you know y. My bike shipped yesterday to replace a stolen 1. And I now
    Know y. . Thanks man.

    Consider teaching English in Korea, private English instruction schools. They pay pretty well, and they may also provide accomodation. I and my wife did it for a while long time ago. Keep loading up video and keep pedaling!

      Hi Ross. Thank you for your kind words. It’s greatly appreciated.
      I was using the MSR elixir 3, which I think is similar to a hubba hubba. I would recommend the elixir 3 if you are touring with two people although it’s too big in my opinion for just one person.

      @AdamHugill  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s awesome. Damn, I have loads of questions.
      I’m looking to get up to the Arctic circle. Either going north through Alaska or Canada. Have you done either and if so have you any thoughts or advice?

    • @PedalPushinAK
      @PedalPushinAK 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adam Hugill - Cycling the World no idea on Arctic Circle in Canada but have been there multiple times here in Alaska. From Fairbanks it is 180 miles north. First 60 or so are on paved roads, the last section is gravel. The Dalton highway although open for all truly belongs to the truckers who supply the oil fields in Prudhoe. If you treat them right and pull over and stay out of their way, they will treat you well. If not, they will demonstrate that they own the road. In summer a fair amount of car / tourist traffic. The road can vary a lot but tends to have a lot of dust, mud, and rocks. The hills are also not graded like a normal road so steep ups and steep downs. There are no services with the exception of the Yukon River between Fairbanks area and the Arctic Circle and everything tends to be very expensive. Lots of mosquitoes and it is all Bear country. The actual pullout at the Arctic Circle is very un dramatic. Crazyguyonabike.com has several journals of folks who have ridden the road. Where in Alaska are you flying in to?

    • @AdamHugill
      @AdamHugill  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the insight. It’s very useful. I’m flying into Anchorage on the 13 June.

    • @PedalPushinAK
      @PedalPushinAK 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adam Hugill - Cycling the World ... So, having watched several of your videos, it appears some “adventure” is a bit of what you seek in addition to some quality cycling experience. So I would probably recommend from Anchorage to travel north along the Parks Highway until you reach Cantwell. At Cantwell I would turn east and cycle the Denali Highway to Paxson and then turn north and head towards Tok which then puts you on track for the road to Canada. The Denali Highway is dirt and gravel but well maintained by the state and is simply beyond words beautiful. Very limited traffic but definitely more friendly than the road north out of Fairbanks. Few spots for services. If you go to Denali National Park north of Cantwell expect lots of tourists as it is a focal point for summer travelers. All of those roads are good, cycled most of them, water filter is required in my opinion, you can camp about anywhere. Folks more than willing to stop and help if needed.

      I’ve not really thought about a live stream but it’s something I’d definitely consider. I suppose I need to be organised, have good WiFi etc to do it which doesn’t always go hand in hand with bike touring.
      I’ll give it a good thought.

  • @darrencorpe
    @darrencorpe 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is the status with your wife? On your profile it says you "separated". That was a bit ambiguous. Can you elaborate a little bit? Going to America, Alaska, and Canada? Def highest recommendations to watch Iohan Gueorguiev on TH-cam. That guy is a legend. From Canada (like me), bikepacked from Alaska to Argentina and did all kinds of crazy stuff like pack-rafting down the MacKenzie River in the Yukon.

    • @AdamHugill
      @AdamHugill  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’m not sure how separated is ambiguous but in short we’re no longer together. As you can imagine, it’s fairly personal so I’ll leave it at that.
      My future plans change fairly frequently but the plan today is to cycle from Alaska to Argentina. It won’t be the most direct route as I like to wiggle through places.
      Iohan’s videos are fantastic. I’ve been in touch with him briefly to get some advice for heading to the north of Canada.

    Everyone or most people, I suspect, would like to see the world. However, we have responsibilities too, don’t we? Our country needs schools, hospitals, a civilised way of life etc. All of which has to be paid for. Not to mention our NHS system, which costs us an absolute bomb, doesn’t it? Am I right in thinking that you refuse to pay? If you become sick on your jaunts, what will be your plan? As the years pass by and you need financial support in your life, what sort of pension plan do you have in place? I think that what you’re doing should be weighed against what you are avoiding? Don;t you? You are creating some great memories, but there are lots of homeless ex soldiers with some great memories. Good luck with your later life, hope you’ll stay fit and healthy forever and never need financial help.

    • @AdamHugill
      @AdamHugill  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love a good judgemental comment 😂
      I’ve spent my entire adult life paying taxes and serving in the military. I’ve had friends get injured and served with people that have lost their lives. I will never be sorry for taking 18 months out of the mainstream work force to travel the world and spread an overwhelmingly positive message. Life is to short.
      I’ve got more than enough put away for retirement. Enough that I think I’ll be able to spend even more time riding my bike around the world again.
      Don’t hate on someone for working hard, saving and living their life. Hate on the mega rich that evade taxes and tap up politicians for favours.
