Jack is a God in Ireland he put Ireland on the world stage ,our first WC we got to the Q/F and going out to a strong Italian and host nation. He was also a great defender and part of the WC winning team of 1966 .But for us in Ireland Italia 90 was the crowning affair Thanks Jack they should have Jack Charlton street in Dublin . God Bless your soul.
Ireland's gain was England's lost - the inept autocrats at the FA, full of their own self importance despite not seeing the logic in front of their eyes - half the battle at international level is inspiration from inside. They made the same mistake with Brayan Clough and Peter Taylor - we would have won the world cup again with that duo. Sad loss for England - FYI I supported Ireland during Jack's time - you played out of your socks, deserved support.
Jack is a true hero at Hillsborough to those of us old enough to have witnessed his time in charge. His first game was a night match, 10 October 1977 away at Exeter City, where we lost to a last minute goal---- it was a long long way home and even further from any hope of a decent team. But rebuild he did, he brought us promotion and, best of all, the 4-0 Boxing Day massacre of Sheff Utd in 1979. Legendary if only for that result which we still crow about. Rest in Peace Big Jack, I will always remember you with gratitude and admiration.
14.45 ish.... Beautiful 5 minute Tribute video by his grand daughter and family. Exceptional piece for an exceptional man. Xx Love from an English born lad with Irish parents...and I would love to have played for Big Jack. He did so much. ♥️♥️♥️
When I think of Jack I get beautiful warm happy memories of great man who great joy to millions who was just like us he even became an Irishman blessings to his wife children and grandchildren you must so proud of this great man rest in perfect peace
I can’t think of anyone else who was genuinely loved and mourned on both sides of the Irish Sea as much as Jack Charlton, can’t think of anyone that comes close even. Goes without saying as an Englishman who won the World Cup how much he’s loved by the English, how much he’s loved by Leeds fans as a one club man during their most successful era. But Ireland was different in that at first to Jack it would’ve been a job and to the Irish football fan for the first non-Irishman to take the job be an Englishman didn’t have everyone jumping for joy. But that trepidation didn’t last long, Ireland started to win games we previously drew or lost, the style of play was not to everyone’s taste but it got results and no one wanted to take on Ireland at the time. Big Jack loved the Irish and we loved him back in spades (even if the cheque stories are a myth) It’s no exaggeration to say he helped bring a real feel good factor back to Ireland. A proper legend.
Ahhh Jack thanks for the memories. Irelands English man just goes to show we can love the ordinary English people never forgotten ordinary men can be God's
Disappointed that his successful time at Sheffield Wednesday as manager for 6 years is only mentioned in passing. Sheffield is in the Calendar region last time I looked.
The Irish value authenticity: Jack never pretended to be anything he wasn't and they love him for that!

It's hard to underestimate Jack Charlton's importance to the Irish. They loved him.
