    Brit Marling is one of the few living writers in our generation who is actually a storyteller. She is an artist and a poet. I love her.

    Man this dude is beyond an interviewer, he's a therapist. Never have I heard such questions where even the actors are taken back at the profundity of the things he inquires about them. How does this guy not have more subs. I hope his actual website is doing well.

      Right on! He's great. I wish there were more like him. Someone I'd put in the same league is Cheryl Waters of KEXP. Goes to such great lengths to put all of her guests at ease and asks insightful questions.

      I met her when she was filming the OA in my small NorCal town a year ago. I hadn't seen the show, but I LOVED the movie "Another Earth", and I told her so...she was warm and gracious, and her complexion is flawless. I pretty much fan-girled all over her and she couldn't have been nicer...

      Yea, so true. heres the ting, a lot of people dont hae a choice, they have to work. as a creative person myself, its been a struggle to act day in and day out...to get the job done. Doing my best not to make a mistake and also fit in fashion wise...while still be an individual..with a lot of vintage clothes :-)

      Ana Hendricks ,start with season 1 again and binge through season 2. This will make much better sense for you. Also the first two episodes of season 2 will essentially start this new chapter so you may feel what I and others felt (a little off) and wonder where they’re going. It does all pull together at the end of season 2 and that is just how Brit has written the elements of the show so you can understand the tiers of dimensional travel. Unfortunately as it’s written it takes building up through several episodes to get you those answers. Season 2 is more or less building on season 1 for season 3 which I am sure is going to get really intense. The writing is genius and I wish I could say more but I am avoiding spoilers.

    Brit is awesome. The OA changed me and the way I think about film. I think it takes a special type of person to really see it for what it is. She is a creative and imaginative genius, who presents strong emotion and feeling based writing. I think there are a lot of people out there looking for the perfect "formula" so to say, for a good film/television show. I think she understands the importance of feeling out your story, writing it because you love it, and understanding that if you tell the emotions that you know, the ones that have been so impactful to you, you are able to tell those with coherence and relateability. Its the utmost example of "telling what you know." Brit, let me PA on your sets! lol.....but for real though.

      I originally watched OA because of 'Sound of My Voice' and was delighted to encounter again the same themes of longing for a tribe, mixed with faith and doubt, and never being quite sure knowing what to believe, but yearning for it to be true. OA2 probably goes a bit too far in answering the questions but I can't deny I was delighted to discover it on Netflix today and I just binged the entire series in one sitting...

      @@dariopetroni1819 I'm an aspiring filmmaker so it gave me such a different idea of storytelling. I see so many filmmakers trying to develop stories that will sell rather than trying to tell really personal stories. Likewise with in that personality I witnessed a story of feeling and emotion I've never quite seen before. Specifically in the scene where the revive scott it just made me realize the power of human sympathy and connection.

    I am not able to articulate just how incredible The OA is. Part 1 and then Part 2 just realized---I watched Part 2 in about 24 hours--and I'm a mom with a fulltime job. That's how compelling and captivating it is. Just complete genius and terrifying and beautiful and intriguing!

    Brit is such a visionary, the OA proves that. I'm sure there was some sort of agenda to holding back the 3 other seasons. Whether it be someone was threatened by Brits ideas or something totally different. There will never be another show like the OA. It was THE best and will be the best show I'll ever see ever again. Nothing will ever top it

      The only show as trippy as The OA I can think of , is Twin Peaks. Its from the 90s. If you haven't watched and love the OA, watch Twin Peaks. I've been obsessing over it for the past decade. ❤ both of these series are niche. Not for everyone, but for those who are within thay niche, it's a rare treat.

      Mr. Robot is the only other show that I can compare The OA to in regards to a complete visionary. That may not make sense unless you've watched all 4 seasons of Mr. Robot.
      And for the record, it's no conspiracy why OA was canceled. It got canceled because it didn't bring in new subscribers. That's how Netflix works. Doesn't matter how many people watch it. It's how many new people it brings in.

    I spent decades sucking it up, doing what I was supposed to do. And it worked. I got to the top of the hill.
    And then I had that moment. I had money - lots of it. But I was profoundly unhappy. I hated my job. I hated the people I worked for... the city I lived in... all of it. So I jumped off the cliff. It's 8 years later now and I'm poorer, happier and more fulfilled than I could have imagined.
    Brit, props to you for figuring it out when you were still young. And props for The OA. It's a glittering example of what happens when you're true to your muse.

    The climax of season one makes you question our reality. It's so beautifully written and acted, one can not simply watch OA without feeling a connection to OA herself inside them. Brit is an outstanding actor in that regard. You genuinely feel it's her own story and you are witnessing it

      Kristopher Gifford I worked in investment banking in a major city in the financial district. It sounds glamorous when you apply. When you get there on day one it all goes away. You don’t feel special or glamorous at all. You sit at your cubicle and just get fed repetitive, mind numbing work for 80 hours a week that really doesn’t require any sort of intelligence at all. You make financial models and marketing materials in PowerPoint all day long. Your tasks never change. Oh and if your model doesn’t look right from the perspective of making your clients growth projections look good, you just tweak a number to make it look good for the public or for potential buyers if you’re in m&a. So much for “financial analysis”. There’s a culture in place where it’s hard to get a job there and they make it seem that you have to be really smart to work there. But the repetitive soul crushing work can really be done by anyone with a basic understanding of finance and a basic calculator by your side. Oh and after you get your nice paycheck you only have 1/3rd of it left after all your expenses of living in a big city. Oh and when you divide the hours you work by your pay, you realize you’re only making minimum wage to begin with. And also forget having a girlfriend, friends, or any social life. They will all hate you for canceling every single even you had planned because you’re on call 24/7. Even if you have no work to do they’ll get pissed if you leave the office because the culture is fucked. Lol sorry man, just had to let that out. It was a really fucking depressing atmosphere.

      I know how you feel stranger but you should remember that no one’s support and belief is as dire as your own. Be your own best friend. You only have a short amount of time to do it all and you’re definitely going to do some failing but you might as well try to do it the way you dream of doing it.

      I don't know how I never even heard of The OA until late 2022. Maybe that's why it wasn't as popular? People just didn't know about it? I just discovered it and binged both seasons and can't believe there's not more!

    I loved the OA.
    And reading about how Brit had this promising future in Goldman Sachs but threw it away to go into acting/directing... Kudos, you have my utmost respect and I wish more people had the courage to have that strength of character and chase their own happiness, rather than be that broken-in horse.

    I first watched Brit in another earth years ago and knew there was something really special about her. When she came out with the oa I knew it was going to be my favorite! She has so much authenticity and creativity that I’ve never seen in film and tv. I feel like the OA is so underrated and unknown so I really hope it gets the recognition it deserves and is nominated for the big award shows this year

    If you've not watched "Another Earth" or "The Sound of my Voice' which she was in and/or involved in the making off and in, then definitely do so. Watch "Another Earth" when you are in the mood for something tingly and emotionally intense. I re-watched it recently and was just toasted by the end. Some people just couldn't get around trying to judge it as hard sci-fi when it's fantasy sci-fi really. Watch it in that light and it makes perfect sense.
    Oh, and on that note, though not Brit Marling oriented, if you like "Another Earth" and want to see a movie that will change your view of life, watch "Perfect Sense", which is just one of the most amazing movies ever. If the movie Contagion is the hard sci-fi version of a particular story line, "Perfect Sense" is the incredibly intense fantasy sci-fi version of it and it will flatten you emotionally.

    The face being an actor's chief method of expression, Ms. Marling first and lasting impression is not of the object of sexual desire that so many actresses present, but from the first scene of the story a vision of mystery and wary self-knowledge and later of intelligence, her beauty is that of a magnetic attractiveness that enhances but does not overwhelm the story she is telling.

    I had this realization about my safe job just two weeks ago. I can't believe I got across this video and listen to her put into words exactly what I have been feeling these days, without even looking for it. I quit my job last week to try and discover that imagination I lost and now I feel I'm not alone, thanks Brit Marling. I have never seen the OA, but I guess that is what I'll be doing tonight.

    She is incredible. I began watching the series but I felt very confronted by the second season and stopped watching it. During quarantine I started watching it again and I love it so much! It has inspired me to take the leap into writing my middle grade series. She is so incredible!!!

    I was really impressed with this interview, obviously brit’s diction and grace is so remarkable but I will also note the interview was well conducted and it’s rare a woman is interviewed by a man and truly allowed to speak, isn’t undermined, the conversation is truly engaging and there is respect.

    i’m tearing up because shes so inspiring and i feel like her before she switched careers. i always wanted to be an actor but I gave it up because it didn’t seem realistic but i can’t help but come back to it again and again, when she said its the high wire but a better lived life, i really felt that

    Damn I wish more people watched the OA, damn Netflix and the stranger things music they use for comparing the two....the OA is a much more intense show.
    Season 2 started out as if it was going to disappoint me, but actually pulled it off. I gotta see season 3 now!

    Wow I never knew she studied economics and I also did not imagine that I would relate so hard to her feelings at her job when she felt like she was fading away. I felt that way when I was pushed into studying economics because it's a sensible subject and my grandpa, mum, dad and big sis all majored in social sciences so it made more sense for me to follow into their footsteps. I also started school feeling lost, not knowing what I wanted to do other than art( I was dissuaded from a following a career in that heavily) and having people around me always telling me what to do next. That's how I grew up and I could never think properly when I was harming myself. I thought I was going to kill myself and my physical health also started breaking down from how depressed and anxious I was. After a little more than 2 years of misery and a year of planning ways to kill myself I started to major in a subject I have always been genuinely interested in but never thought of pursuing it before and despite the hurdles I never felt as bad as before. I still go through waves of depression every year but I have had this problem since I was a kid and it has been more manageable nowadays. Still don't have a solution to that yet. I don't know if this is it for me or if this is another mistake but I am in a much better place than I was almost 2 years ago.

    I still can remember when I watched her speech at Georgetown Uni and completely blow away with her enthusiastic, inspirational spirit, the way she talk in an interview about any subject like it in another dimension that urge you to explore more about it. She is getting more and more recognize for her work now. With this 7 minutes clip, I hope you can see how amazing she is and look out for more of her work, and Zal, Mike too.

    Just finished the OA, it was so amazing it felt like it was tricking my mind in a way so many twist’s,
    I really hope there is a season 3 because that ending was crazy and amazing.

    Most series don't have a promising pilot ep... but The Homecoming ep( 1st ep) was so intriguing that one can just dive in the sea of emotions it delivered. I was so calm and at peace and i thought to myself " that's how you tell a story"

    Wow I am so glad i stumbled upon this interview. She is describing the situation I find myself exactly in at this moment. I am depressed, have been working for a soul-crushing tech giant for 6 years, and feel like all my creative talents have been buried under a pile of rubble. I used to act, dance, paint, create visual graphic arts. What happened? I've been having the hardest time trying to explain to people what I feel, but she put it into word perfectly. It's heartbreak. Heartbreak for my creativity and imagination that I used to have. Mourning for the artistic freedom I am not allowed for most of my every day. I need to make a change.

It’s difficult sometimes to know who you are, what you want to do to live a happy meaningful life and to be brave enough to live up with your true self. Thank you Brit for making the OA.     Season 2 Genius, pure genius, I binged and re binged with the season 1 gap (2yrs) so I like many had started over and to say the writing is solid is an understatement it is pure and divine. I cannot wait for season 3 with 5 seasons in the works to complete this brilliant and enticing story.
    Edit: I just realized season 2 was released Friday March 22nd. I feel like a nerd knowing I’ve watched it already including starting over with season 1. 😂 I will admit I was up at all hours of the night with headphones on I couldn’t shut my tv or brain off.

    I’ve never felt this way about a SYFY show before. It was amazing. Especially season 2 the way she told that story it was so captivating. I didn’t think I was going to like the show let alone season 2 but I’m so glad I took a chance on it.

    what an amazing woman! Another Earth changed my life, and I find she's sooo SMART. If you come to think of it, the OA is a collage of the best bits in 'Another Earth', 'The Voice Within' and 'The East', you get the duplicate world from the former , the cult stuff and time travel from 'Voice Within', and the detective undercover Karim Washington from the latter. She's the poet of a new generation, amazing creator and a personable girl, too. Love her!

    I had a similar experience where I couldn't bring myself to take medication in a depression. I refused to believe that it could be more than a stop-gap solution, because really my sadness was coming from dissatisfaction with life and emotional exhaustion. The only real solution was to change my habits, a little at a time, and be patient with the process, celebrating the tiny victories and steps, until I had changed for the better (ruminating less, learning more, taking care of my health with proper sleep, food, and exercise, putting effort toward those big intimidating projects I'd been putting off). Then subsequently my circumstances improved, because circumstances are a lagging indicator of who you are (plus or minus whims of fortune).

    I almost gave up on the work I really wanted to do. In the creative field as well but after a failure and thought I died, I went to work in another industry. After a 4 month stint of actually doing good in the new job, I still decided to claw myself out of that grave and realize how much I wanted to go back to creative work because there I truly lived even with all the failures that came with it. So I'd say I had that NDE, too! Brit Marling, you're a goddess. And this dude. You also rock. (Note: I paused this video to write this comment and continued the video and her words in the end of the video. Damn. Just echoed thru my heart.)

    I died 3 Times, I had 3 NDE's, I had 1 Out of Body, in my current life time and i'm 27 now, I have connected to the multiverse and different versions of myself, So whoever made the OA is trying to tell the truth! You all better Listen! The only thing the OA has not touched upon is that movement through time is when your consciousness shifts between infinite parallel realities as to give the illusion of progression and continuation.

      Fascinating. Can you explain what you mean? I can't get my head around the idea of shifting between parallel realities in a way that gives illusion of continuation. It seems like that would be jarring. I never died but I experienced simultaneous existence in two realities when I "asked" during mediation how that could be possible after reading a Seth book years ago. Both experiences were linear in time but simultaneously experienced.
