A delightful revisit for me to the land of Narnia. I loved this book as a child and I agree the 1980's television series was very good. I would not have thought of re reading this book as an adult and was not sure how I would feel about it. Yet for me it brought back the belief in magic and that goodness one day will win the day for us all. It is a timeless book with it's message being still relevant in today's world. Thank you Miranda and Donna wishing you both a very Happy Christmas.
The depth of C.S. Lewis writing has never stopped to fascinate me, (not only the Narnia books). A great scholar, thinker and lay theologian. I have read and reread his books since childhood and discovered more and more of him through life. (I do remember the old BBC series me and my siblings loved it and I rewatched it while rereading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe this month) Edmunds walk with Aslan mentioned here and how it helps him and moulds hin is a humans walk with Christ in so many ways.
This book was very popular in the Soviet Union and my mother read it as a child and loved it. And as we emigrated to Germany (West) in the 70th, I saw the BBC series on the german TV and loved it very much. It was magic. Thank you very much, Miranda and Donna, for the wonderful discussion on this book! Happy holidays!!!!
Our pleasure, Nicea! I’m so happy you enjoyed the discussion! Thank you so much too for your always generous support and kindness! I appreciate them both so much! Have a lovely Christmas ❤️🎄💫🙏
Wishing All the Compliments of the Season to Everyone! I read aloud the LWW nearly 40 yrs ago to my daughter. What stands out in my memory is that my partner and his pal were working on a project in the house at the time. It wasn’t until I wanted to take a break from the reading (to fix lunch, I think) that the suggestion was met with loud protest - from the adults!! They had been listening and hadn’t read the story in their childhood. I was waited on like a queen the entire day as long as I continued. And so it was with a raspy voice, a bit past my daughters usual bedtime, that I remember the story coming to a conclusion at her bedside with not one, but 3 enchanted faces hanging upon every word. 😊
A Narnia garden, how fun is that! This has been my favourite Comfort Book Club video! I have listened to the series repeatedly and it never gets old. Donna and Miranda, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I look forward to seeing you again in 2025!
I have been reading this treasured book to my granddaughter’s second grade class weekly over the past two months. I don’t know who enjoys it more, the students or me! It is a gem, and I thank you for sharing your insights. Merry Christmas!
Hello Miranda and Donna, Thank you for this discussion on the brilliant C.S. Lewis. Lewis understood human evil and accurately describes it in Narnia the very nature of it is the narcissist need for power and control. I loved that Lewis showed through this book all the fragility of the human spirit cannot compare with courage under fire. A message for the ages.
I wish you and your Mother a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. You are both so sweet. I wish I had one more life so I could read all these interesting and lovely books. You have inspired me. I have never read “the Lion, the witch and the wardrobe”. I will certainly do it now. I will read it for my grandaughter.
I've read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and all the others in the series, more times than I care to remember, but I never grow tired of their charm and C. S. Lewis' understanding of human nature, good and evil, and his portrayal of the magical land of Narnia. A wonderful discussion, and a great choice for the CBC. Merry Christmas to you and Donna and all the very best for 2025.
Thank you for another lovely video, Donna and Miranda! I've loved "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" ever since I read it as a child, so listening to your discussion of the book was a real treat! Miranda, when you were speaking about stories C.S. Lewis drew from, I immediately thought of "The Story of the Nutcracker" by E.T.A. Hoffmann. There is a scene in the book in which Marie and the nutcracker enter a magical land, which includes a Christmas wood, by climbing up a ladder placed through the armhole of Marie's father's cloak, hanging up in the family wardrobe. When I read this scene, I thought Lewis was most likely inspired by it. The two stories are alike in many ways, especially the overall tone, and I wholeheartedly love them both! I really recommend reading "The Story of the Nutcracker" if you haven't already. Thank you again for a wonderful year of videos and wishing you both a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Hello! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! ❤ I discovered your channel and subscribed a few weeks ago. Thank you for the lovely videos. Comfort is a very high priority for me and I saw your Comfort Book Club today. I plan to ‘join’ your book club and have ordered January’s book from my library. I look forward to having you both to share my love of reading and comfort with. Perfect for our troubled world now. Thank you, again ❤😊
This was one of my favorite books when I was growing up, and I'm so glad you chose it for this month's read. The first time I ever tasted Turkish Delight I remember being so disappointed because I didn't like it. It was so sweet! But the book itself, I loved. Especially Aslan. Upon first reading, I was too young to get the Christian allegory, but when it was pointed out to me, it only deepened my appreciation for the book. Thank you for choosing this book, and Merry Christmas to you both! ❄️☃️🎄
Thank you for this happy joyful discussion Ladies! It was lovely listening to your thoughts on the book as always. You both look very festive and jolly 😃🤩🎉 Thank you very much for sharing beautiful content this year and best wishes to you both 🩷💝❤
I like the author’s dedication. I also took the book off a shelf and dusted it. It’s enormous and contains all the Narnia chronicles which I think I’ll read now you mention the prequel. Thank you for your videos, you certainly inspire me to read a lot more. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you both. 🎄🎄🎄
Merry Christmas, Miranda and Donna 🎄🎄🥰…I really enjoyed reading “The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe” I read along with the audio.. I loved the Beavers, I actually could smell the delicious fresh caught fish, and Edmund always my least favorite in the movie, had my sympathy in the book..Now I’m definitely reading the other books in the series… I read “The Magician’s Nephew” Years ago Is the Professor “ Digory” from the first book..my first comment was deleted, I think it was flag, I put a quote from the book in the comment, I’m really sorry about that.. It was about Edmund 🤦🏾♀️… I really Loved this Discussion ☺️🥰…
One of my favorites if your book club selections and discussions. If you are looking for a lovely follow-up to read between Christmas and New Year might I suggest *Once Upon. A Wardrobe* by Patti Callahan (and recommended by C.S.Lewis' stepson), I really think you'll love it if you haven't read it yet. Merry Christmas to all and blessings to everyone.
Merry Christmas Miranda and Donna. I hope you have a restful and fun filled Christmas and New Year period. I have recommended your Narnia video to numerous people. I think that was probably the best Christmas display I have ever seen.
Miranda and Donna, Thank you for making 2024 a much brighter place to live. You have brought so much comfort and joy to others. I am eternally grateful for finding you this year. Such a great gift in my life. Merry Christmas, Laurie
Thank you so very much, Laurie, for your lovely words and very generous support! I’m so glad you found my channel this year and it has given you enjoyment! I appreciate your kindness very much! Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄❤️💫🙏
Lovely video - the Narnia books have been some of my favourites since a teenager in the 1970s. I was interested in the influences that come into the book like E Nesbit, Secret Garden, Snow Queen, I also thought of Greek myths and William Morris's prose romances, particularly at the end where the grown up kings and queens speak in a strange quasi medieval language.
Merry Christmas, Miranda and Donna . Thank you for another wonderful review. May you have a blessed Christmas and New year. Look forward to all the comfort book club posts in 2025.
Great video, I just read this to my daughter for the first time and it was just as enjoyable for me to reread it as it was for her! Merry Christmas to you both 🤗
