This video documents the underdog success story of (G)I-DLE.
Coming from a non Big 4 background, (G)I-dle had a humble debut (only 260 copies sold and few MV views). But over the years, they managed to grow from a "nobody" group to a global music sensation, topping the charts. Despite many obstacles (such as member leaving, group hiatus, etc), they only grew stronger and stronger. In their recent songs, (such as "Tom boy", "Nxde", "Queencard"), they've also shown their ability to write empowering lyrics for women and have become the leading faces of new pop feminism.

I'd also like to add that Shuhua biggest strength is really the things we don't see. Apparently behind-the-scenes she's the group's motivator/cheerleader/therapist. She knows how to encourage everyone when they are down or have hardly any energy. Soyeon has stated more than once she's based songs off of Shuhua's strength, and we've all seen how both Soojin and Yuqi have been super protective over her. So while that doesn't really translate to the album or screen, it makes the group stronger. It's sort of an invisible thankless job.
I was so mad when So-yeon was eliminated from Produce 101 season 1 because she was my favorite out of all 101 participants, but I think it was a blessing in disguise because she was able to be in G-idle. 😊

@@ranran_dv Yes, I know. To be more explicit, a lot of people day that Gidle should leave Cube, but looking at Hyuna, Cube might not be the biggest company, or the best towards its artiști, but they worked well with Soyeon and the girls. Tbh I hope they stay with Cube
(G)-IDLE remind me of a 4th gen 2NE1 because of their uniqueness and discography. I love both of them and I am a Neverland and Blackjack only. I love how they have new things to show and aren’t afraid of standing up for themselves. I never ever thought Blackpink was similar to 2NE1, I always felt it was IDLE.

And I agree, I BURN is really an S-tier album. All songs sounds cohesive and great sonically-wise.

@@GleeChan People can have tried listening to other groups and then stopped afterwards. They are the only group I can listen to every day without getting bored because they have such a diverse discography.

Yeah, exactly how I feel, literally 99% of K-pop songs sound all the same, it’s all generic. Idle is the only group I can listen to because unlike other K-pop groups, listening to one song isn’t like listening to 10 others. Idk how to explain but it basically goes with what I mean by “all the same and all generic”
The fact that it's just the members especially soyeon carrying their own group activities all by themselves
Cube is just taking them for granted , they don't know that their company will simply shut down if g idle ends

I would also like to point out that the only reason gidle is this big is because they write and produce their own songs. Which means they are heavily involved in the creative processes of their comebacks. Soyeon mentioned that they were supposed to debut but cube wasnt giving them songs, which is why she decided to make one for the group (latata). If gidle didnt have the members (currently: soyeon, yuqi and minnie) who write their own songs, they would probably not be this successful today. I think cube is a lazy company who dont spend time on their groups. Not to mention its mismanagement issue. Its two other groups- lightsum and nowadays do not have comebacks at all, let alone successful ones.
G-idle are so successful because they are self-made. They are a miracle because Cube failed them every step of the way. They were set up for failure from the beginning. They had to reinvent and re-debut themselves. They are the creative forces behind their captivating music and concepts. They survived the Soojin scandal because of this. Every album is different and unique but is still G-idle, because it comes from them. They always surprise us. Their themes are powerful without being cliché. This is what defines G-idle, their authenticity.
gidle, to me, are the group leading kpop right now. i think when people name a group as the leaders of a generation or whatever, they think about charts and wins. but when i think about groups that are leading kpop, i think about groups that are making changes and taking risks, which is what i think gidle does with everything they do. this obviously causes them to get tons of hate, but i think that's a given because when we look back on groups that have had a big impact on the way kpop sounds/looks now days, (groups like brown eyed girls, f(X) etc..) we see that when they were active, not many understood or liked the music they were putting out or their concepts because they were different and strayed away from the norm. but now, we can look at kpop and see their impact all these years later. i can see people tens of years from now looking back at gidle's concepts, lyrics and music and seeing how significant it all was, even if people didn't really realize it at the time.
I'd like to add something, Shuhuas struggles proves how good of a leader Soyeon is, despite Shuhuas struggles Soyeon wrote songs in a way that helped Shuhua and taught her techniques that helped her with her vocals and timing

we all know this is (G)I-dle's agency which is Cube Entertainment. not the other way around, Cube Entertainment has a girl group called (G)I-dle. so in 2025, it will be critical for Cube's survival in Kpop industry depending on whether they can renew (G)I-dle's contracts or not. the gals will survive if they set their own agency or perhaps another agency. wait and see then.
You are missing a big chapter of the story when omitting K/DA. It brought a big public of non kpop fan to discover and enjoy G-Idle, explaining their unique success in the Kpop scene
Thank you for the hardwork.. You analyzed the group to the best. Seeing it, it took me back to the moment of sadness ..I became Neverland before hwaa era after listening hann. Just after their wonderful comback and 10 wins , soojin scandle came out. The whole group and fandom was in chaos. The whole group was absent for the whole year. I was worried for the future . Their disband thoughts were also coming.. Then finally tomboy came and it turned the air... Tomboy not only saved the group but also the fandom.. The fandom grew stronger and deeper

Good video. Appreciate the effort. But the biggest news here for me is how big JYP has grown, haha. Didn't realize they had caught up to SM and left YG behind. I remember JYP being similar in size to YG behind SM. Guess, JYP's whole business restructure around 10 years ago worked

I love all the things you mention about them. Cube management really stinks at PR, especially promoting their songs internationally. That's why (G)-idle has to do it themselves. They send the groups to a few variety shows. Barely promoting their groups like Pentagon and Lightsum.
That's why their growth is the most authentic for me in this fourth generation. They start from scratch, and they don't have the privilege of the big three. There is no hate toward other groups; they have their own shares of sacrifice.
I have never been so proud of 6 people who I have never met. They deserve every win they get. I love them
This is why i don't feel bad by the views cause it takes a lot of resources to grow those things.

Like many folks, when I-dle debuted, their fresh sound seems to be the turning of the new generation. On reflection, however, it seems now that they were really the last of the 3rd generation, the end of companies granting more freedom and creative input to the members, an experiment that began with Mamamoo. From that point of view, its too early to say we've turned from 4th to 5th Gen, 4th has some time to play out yet. That's my opinion, anyway...

Great video. I think there are just a handful of superstar groups (and lets not forget IU) who have really propelled Kpop both artistically and commercially, and really, at this point, Idle stands alone. It's insane how talented Soyeon is as a creative but also as a manager helping to develop her already-talented members to new heights. They'd probably all be successful on their own, but it's Soyeon that pulls everything together. She's the Boss, no doubt about that, but she also knows a good boss helps her people grow and shine in their own right so no one feels slighted. It's a lot harder to pull off than people realize, especially since Cube doesn't seem to recognize or support them the way a superstar group should be treated. It's no wonder the girls openly admit to counting down the days until their contract expires. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the agencies haven't already pitched their interest to Soyeon, and in the back of her workaholic mind, she's already got a good idea of which one she'll take the group to. (I would suspect they won't go the independent route since Soyeon has enough on her plate producing the group to take on the role of managing a business as well. If they did go the independent route, I suspect that Yuqi would take on that role. She always seems a little ditzy in the bts stuff hiding the fact she has rank 1 serious smarts and running a business would be right up her alley.)
And yeah, the narrator really does sound like Young Ji. Maybe she wanted to scratch an Idle itch without looking like she was brownnosing Soyeon.

Only one thing to add, Fate became a sleeper hit after their performance at Lee Hyori show. It climbed the charts so fast after that. The fans had to beg cube for weeks to release the live clip as Shuhua was on a health hiatus at the time. And then with the help of the live clip they soon achieved their 4th PAK
and the fact that they only performed fate instead of wife because wife was banned from KBS the channel where Lee Hyori's show aired
