Oh man a gold mine, as someone who does Hendrix covers and tries to emulate the tone as close as possible roger is a god send, so many questions I'd have for this man you have no idea!

Use a Twin Reverb or Marshall FULL volume.. and control it with your guitar volume knob. Super distortion makes his riffs and especially chords, sound like SH!T

Don,t know about the e string winding by Jimi, but he had issues with it jumping out,and would correct it instantly, watch Atlanta footage,a loud ping,as he fixes it with his thumb, some who notice say what was that, for him,he was acutly aware of that ongoing issue

The first live appearances of the silicone fuzz were the woodstock and band of gypsys concerts in 1969, allegedly the same circuit as the octavia without the octave up option according to historians including dunlop.

Indeed, Axis/BoG Fuzz all derivations from the Helios Console pre-amp.

In the UK, the declared voltage and tolerance for an electricity supply is 230 volts -6%, +10%. This gives an allowed voltage range of 216.2 volts to 253.0 volts.

Why occasionally wound Low E on the "wrong side of the peg?" Maybe THAT held a cigarette better.
Also, he is totally right, pre-CBS Strat necks were hand shaped using Leo's custom edge-mounted belt sander jig. Each machine operator had his "style". It makes sense that the neck profile determined "your" guitar out of dozens. Now, everything can be computer milled for exact duplication (or tweaks), so you just specify what profile you want. I used to build custom electrics decades ago, and I ALWAYS thought the whole over-winding pickup thing was gas-lighting bs. It doesn't make enough difference to pay TWICE what a standard pickup cost. The whole "Super-distortion, even PAF thing was bs, too me. The biggest sound variant was "Soapbar/single-coil(Fender)" vs "Humbucking". The rest were such subtle differences, you wouldn't hear it UNTIL some SALES pitch told you, "No, listen CLOSELY.. can't you hear it?" Same sh!t STILL going around, today. The sound is more in how you play and what you play THROUGH... 5watt vs 35 watt, vs 100 vs.... DI using processors to "REPLICATE" speaker outputs. Use the REAL shit.. at the REAL output levels. They've tried to "can" it for 55 years. I STILL can "hear" the difference. Same as analog TAPE vs Digital A/D conversion... you can HEAR the difference if you regularly go from one medium to the other. It's all about professional recording studios vs recording on laptops! Cheaper and "quieter" but you're in a different universe. The two never meet

My theory for winding the low E string the opposite side (over the top of the peg) is due to bending...bending down on the low E would not hit the A string...Just like bending up on the high E string? or just more string length going over the top

It is well known the string would pop off the neck esp if nut reversed unmodified🙂

So high action or low??? I think the old guy has no idea about setup. He knows a lot but nothing about setup. Because Jimi didn’t cared about it.
    Great interview!!

Roger often set up jimi’s guitars

@@paulbangash4317 if you know anything about guitar setup you will see that none of Jimis 25 Strats are intonated ( look at the saddles), pickups height left as they came for a right hand player.
The saddles and pickups and everything is left alone as it came. Setup for right hand player.

Jesus, I just saw this. Didn't anyone think to ask him one question about Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine? Seriously? Did I miss it somewhere? Mayer made a perfect Jazzmaster for Shields using three Jazzmasters just like he made a perfect Strat for Hendrix using three Strats and taking all the best parts to make one perfect one. Does anyone of you even know who Kevin Shields is? If anyone has come even close to picking up the mantle of Hendrix, it's Shields. No one can ever replace Hendrix, but damn, if you want to know what you should be doing with the guitar now, Kevin Shields is the man. Not one question about anyone modern? Are you all stuck in the 1960's. I'm not sure how many pedals Mayer has made for Shields . Fender just put out their New Shields Fender Blender. Don't you guys explore music outside your little genre? There's more to guitar players than Jimi Page and Hendrix.
