    Excellent video. This is a great series! If I could recommend a follow on video it would be how to properly fit an army ruck to your body. Too many soldiers just take their ruck from CIF, load it up and go.

    If struggling you can do sand bag carries on your shoulder(one side and switch) area lunges with the sand bag. Incline lunges with dumbells will also helps. Then also doing hip exercises.

    I did exactly as you described, the interval trot/walk and up/down hill changes on 2 different 12 mile rucks. First one came in at 14:30 average pace and second one was 13:50 average pace. Very good advice to make it doable! 👍🏻

    Just started rucking again, using a 20lb plate. Whenever I take my dog for a walk I wear it but that is usually just for mileage not time. I try to do a longer timed ruck once or twice a week. I'm an old broken vet (42) but my splits are between 19 n 20 minutes.
    Because I don't trust my right knee at the moment, my uphill times are 3 to 4 minutes faster than my downhill times.

  • @jeremiedevincentis689
    @jeremiedevincentis689 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The old not wearing a hip belt idea came from the ALICE pack days. For one, it interfered with the old LBE, and people had the idea it fatally slowed you down in dropping your ruck if you get into a TIC. I get the argument, but I always used the hip belt on the ALICE and MOLLE rucks. Granted, I'm also just a broken down old POG, so take it for what you will.

      @@GrittySoldier North of that location (past that Sapper St. & Gruber Rd. intersection), there's a spot called 1SG Christopher C. Rafferty Memorial Field which has the start point for a route we call the Engineer Trail which also has several small obstacles you can do along the way if you want. It's relatively short but it's something different to try if you haven't already.

    So.. I got ALICE and my BLACK BOOTS out of the closet as per our earlier discussion, and I was surprised to find out she still loves me after almost 20 years! I've never humped a MOLLE though, and I notice the shoulder straps on it look... different. Wider maybe? I'm gonna keep ALICE, but how do those shoulder straps compare? They look like they might be more comfortable. Oh, and blisters on my feet not even once! God damn right.

    I've learned a lot from watching your videos and applying it to my training. I'm in the Coast Guard at MSRT but attempting to lateral over to the Army. I've got about 10 rucks in so far, 6-7 done with a standard pack, no frame, and some weight. The last couple of rucks I've done I have used the USMC Filbe pack that I got from a surplus store near me. I've been meeting the qualifying standard for time on 4-5 mile rucks but the ruck hasn't felt quite right. Been having to adjust the pack too much. It feels as if the frame of the pack isn't laying against my back like there is free space between my ruck and the middle of my back. I read that I might need to disassemble the ruck to adjust it to my torso length (I'm just under 5'10). Any insight into the matter? Thanks in advance.

    • @Prodigalson0078

    How do you feel about wearing civilian trail shoes (hiking boots) i.e. Columbia when trying to build up initial endurance?

    • @GrittySoldier
      @GrittySoldier  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Personally, I think you should ALWAYS train with what you will use on game day. So for me, that’s my army boots, and the army rucksack.
      If you switch up your footwear frequently during training, it’s really just confusing your lower mechanisms, which would more likely hinder your overall performance in the long run. Train as you fight! 💪
