I am actually /super/ tempted to make a video reviewing the five best and five worst ladies costumes in Red Dead Redemption 2, but it would be so different and out of left field that I feel like it would be a mistake to spend a bunch of hours on 🤣

@@TheClosetHistorian That sounds SUPER fun and interesting to me!! 💖 I don't know if the algorithm would be happy about it, but I can't be the only person who would like it, haha.

I'm in my mid 50's and my oldest son is now 27. When he was in middle and high school I watched him play video games all the time and loved it. I wanted to learn so bad and he tried to teach me many times over the years. I never could master walking and shooting at the same time but I gave him hours of laughter with my determination! Lol I did however become a heck of a sniper, you pick your skill set and go with it I guess. I love getting the sewing content and those memories, Thanks ❣️

the whole thing is gorgeous, but that sequin work elevates it beyond! it's almost like you're peeking at chain mail through the garment, which is a super cool effect to achieve! well done!
and you can reach out to the community any time you need a boost - your creativity is a completely different flavor from mine, so i'm always amazed at what you dream up! (i prefer crocheting afghans and occasionally other items, which i enjoy all pieces of the process.)

I have a white model 530 home industrial sewing machine from 1971 that weighs 35 lb. It can do three layers of leather and six layers of denim without yelling at me. I only needed to get it serviced when I moved 6 hours away in the middle of summer and I guess it heated up the metal enough to throw things out of alignment. But I paid $25 for it out of flea market and it worked straight away. It never gives me tension issues and it's so much quieter. I had to use a plastic machine while mine was being serviced and my dog hated it.

Thank you again for the gorgeous inspiration and for leaving in your mistakes so we can learn how to recover! That you continue to emphasize the basics and methodologies of how to draft and sew well has helped me immeasurably.
Don't worry about the house hunting, you'll find the one that's right for you so long as you keep up a realistic search. It's utterly exhausting, but totally with it in the end. You got this!

Sooooo, I watched this and then went straight to Cartwright's website for the 900th time (they do have some neat shapes in their closeout I hadn't seen before, though most of them are silver and/or gold only). My husband saw the transition (the man practically crawled over my shoulder) and said he might have to send you a 'strongly worded' message about the influence you have over me when it comes to embellishments. 🤭
Also, 10/10 would wear any of the outfits from your Look Books. There is AT LEAST one outfit/item from each that demands my full attention. Especially from Sanctus, Verdigris, Shine, Arcana, Synapse, Saboteur, and Le Bat en Rouge.
You are a spectacular retrofuturistic goth queen. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Oh the beading is stunning! Everything you make is amazing!
I have no idea how someone could miss the underlying era of most of your makes even without the hair! Do whatever you want with your hair and ignore them! Honestly you just have to look at the style lines!!
I add seam allowance too. Way too much chance of me forgetting what I was doing and not adding it when cutting! I also now mark my pieces and what I did to them! It’s truly sad how often I lose track of what I’m doing!

  • @AliciaRArt

Your designs are so stunning! You have really inspired me to dive deep into learning how to draft my own patterns. I've been trying to perfect a basic bodice pattern for myself but I've been struggling with getting the bust to fit properly since I have a decently small bust and an overall rectangular body shape. You've given me reassurance that I'll get there eventually.
You've taught me so much and I look forward each week to see your latest video!

This was a two for one, you spoil us. Have you ever heard of tambour/ari embroidery? It wouldn’t have worked for this particular project, but there have been several of them that have made me think it would have worked very well with since it’s specifically for sequins and beads. I’m trying to learn so I can one day make my things as beautiful as you do yours.

I sew and game (I just don't typically comment, though your previous RDR2 comments tempted me). Red Dead is awesome. I watched a friend play through the campaign (haven't gotten around to it myself), and with a small group of friends I play RDO. We have it set up with a private server so it is just us (and the AI characters) so we can just pony and chill, or work on earning stuff if we feel so inclined. I also really like video games for the story, but it is nice to have options where I can game with my friends as well. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (on PC or PS, not sure if it ever released for Xbox) is a great game with good story and game design, and the second one has recently released. I mostly watch my friends play through games, because I am NOT terribly skilled or patient with games, but mostly we all game together in RDO or Gears 5 these days. As someone who games and sews, it brings me joy to hear what games other crafty folk are playing.
Also, I believe there are multiple endings to Red Dead Redemption 2, depending on what choices you made throughout the game.
Love your work, and definitely in awe of your skill. I am slowly trying to build up my sewing skills and find the methods that work best for me.

oof! lovely fabric! pity you couldn't make it reversible. red dead 2 is a gorgeously designed game. also gotta remember, people living out in the frontier were sometimes years behind on fashion and news. everything moved via trains and horses... And the complainers... firstly, this is your channel and your style is a mix of inspirations. secondly, fashion is always changing, always. thirdly, you do look lovely with longer hair curled 1930's style, but you do as you like hon. it's your hair! 🙂

    😹😹😹TV what’s that, I have not watched TV since 2016, I watch TH-cam most days 😹😹
I love this fabric, I have something like this in blue and gold, bought it a while ago, found it in some shop and fell in love with it, did not know what I was going to make so bought 5 meters just to ensure I have enough😹😹
I’m the same as you, I have seam allowance within the pattern pieces, I think as you say so many would buy patterns without seam allowance and wonder why it would not fit. Most patterns have it added, I only know of one that never have seam allowance so I always made sure to never buy them in the past. My teacher was the same drummed into all of use to make sure everything had the seam allowance added.
As they say, all the best things are worth waiting for. Doubly so when it comes to your dream home.
I love how you used both sides of the fabric as both sides are stunning. I find sometimes the wrong side is prettier than the right side, and when I’m in doubt I ask Dad which side he likes, funny how he always confirms my choices without even knowing.
I have spent years buying beads and assortment of items used for sewing on garments in the past 14 plus years. I actually found the very first seed beads I had ever bought back in 1983 when Mom and I had sneaked off for a girls day out at the brand new shopping mall that had been built in the Sydney Western suburbs 😹😹we found this cute bead shop in an out of the way spot and I found 11/0’s oil slick beads, had no idea what I would use them for but I knew I just had to have them 😹😹😹funny really as those same beads are a 1/4 of the price today than they were in ‘83 🤔😳yep they still had the docket with them which gave me the date and price for 2oz packet of beads 😹😹I had bought 4 packets for $23 AUS now for that price I can buy 100 grams 😹😹oh how times have changed. You can’t buy these beads anymore seen ones close in colour but not the same. So yes I have kept them as is for that special project 😹😹
I love the jacket it has come out stunning, I’m wishing they had the red/gunmetal in the shop where I found the blue and gold, why is it they only ever stock a few samples lol

Not bored by video game talk/costume analysis at all. It’d actually be interesting to hear more from you on the topic, not necessarily historical, but general aesthetics as well if you play any games that stand out. Outside the cosplaying community (which I personally have no interest in) there doesn’t seem to be alot of dedicated discussion, particularly from a lady perspective, of game costume design in interactive media. I have a few games that I think stand out strongly in the subject, but they’re few and far between.
And as everyone has said, the work you do is amazing, unique and on a technical level far above other sewing channels I’ve come across. Although I don’t tackle as large of projects, watching your channel has pushed me to be more aware of the techniques I use on small projects, repairs and ready made clothing purchases. Don’t let the brain fumbles get you down.

Thank you! I really am tempted to break down the Red Dead 2 ladies clothes, maybe it will be my x-mas break project 😂

OMG this is gorgeous. I'm so jalous. I certanly think I'm going to make this if I find the right fabric. Thanks for the clear explanation.

I just ordered some sequins from Idea2Sequins a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully the order is in transit.

I got my most recent order in just a month-ish, which was way better than the last few orders thankfully!

I'm going to have to try that built in collar method you use for the partlet, I think it'd be cute on a vest. And the burrito method is awesome, I did that last vest I made and am very happy with the results. Except I needed to adjust the armscyes just a titch for lacing it as tight as I lace it.

For sequins, these are mostly standard circular ones, but I like getting mine from Illumination Fine Fabric. I found them by chance and I really like their stuff.
If it helps, I really like watching your videos to try and understand more about how to make clothes work with me, not against me. I'm still debating if I should make basic block patterns now or wait until after I lose some weight.

I absolutely love your suiting videos! ❤ But if you wanted to cater to the more “practical” (aka boring, imho) clothing crowd, how about a set of work overalls? They’ll also come in handy for your house renovation projects.
