The PS1 doesn't support DVD's, the PS2 was the first console to support it, that's part of the reason why it blew up.
Kakarot However the PS1 has one of the best CD players period at the time built in. That helped it too.
Yes thats true. Most ppl still used cassette players for music, the ps1 allowed us to use cds without having to buy a whole new product.

Video games were so much harder then. My favorite is the Armored Core series. I play more PS1, PS2 & old Xbox, also the Dreamcast, than I do 360 & PS3. Gonna be awhile before I own a PS4 or Xbox one as my current game library is extensive. There's just something about playing these early disk based systems and completing, or even replaying, one's favorite games.
I've noticed the 6thbgeneration console games were more innovated and had much more fun gameplay than generation 7 consoles. Still there were some games that were good on 7th generation but it wasn't enough. And ps4 and Xbox one x didn't have much of .innovated gaming. And now we're at ps5 and Xbox one x and all they have is nothing but reboots and remasters.
Its great to play ps1 games today and in the future.

The PS one (AKA PS1 Slim) is the TRUE PlayStation Portable because there is a 5-inch LCD screen add-on and a car adapter that you can get for it and you can take the PS one with you and play your PS1 games and listen to your music CDs on the go. You can play with your PS one anywhere! You play with it in your house, at a friend's house, in a car or in a truck or in an SUV and a relative's house and vice versa. Who needs the PS1 Fat when you got the PS1 Slim? Plus, the LCD screen add-on has a headphone jack in the back of it, that way you don't disturb anybody while you are playing PS1 games or listen to music CDs on your PS1 Slim/PS one.

previous comments were correct, this version of the playstation was not the original,
it was the remade version made in 2000 , and stopped being sold in 2006 ,
i think they also updated disc copy protection in this version , stripped out the slot ?
i know most of the originals had very easy mods.

Last Sunday,still playing Road Rash Jailbreak on PS2 Slim I love it.
My 5500 and 9000 model needed repairs and I just got the 1000 model for audiophile CD player.
I had this console with the attached screen. It was awesome! Still is.

When you say ps1 people who know their playstation history immediately think the slim one. The first playstation is known as the PSX, or simply the playstation. This is because when the slim revision was marketed, it was not called the ps1 slim, it was simply called the "PSone". I can understand hoow people who were running around as a toddler at the time wont remember this. If you want proof then google "psone logo" and go to images.
This PSone revised console actually came out in 2000 just fyi. Also, you can’t use PS2 memory cards on the PSone. You can use them the other way around though (Ps1 to ps2) I remember playing Gran Turismo 2 on this thing when I was about 11 or 12 when this console came out :)

You are wrong. That is not a PS One "slim". That is just a PS One.
The original PS was just called Play Station. It was rectangular and grey. Then there was a smaller version, called a slim but looked the same.
Then this small white and rounded version came out. This is called The Play Station One.

The PS1 came out in 2000 and the original console came out nearly one to two years before I was born I think and I even got to play on either an original PlayStation console or a PS one but I must have been 3 - 5 years old because I barely remember it if at all. I think the only games I remember playing are a bugs bunny game and a crash bandicoot game on it but I hardly remember those.

Dude you got extremely lucky If you would have left that PlayStation two disc And your PlayStation one for at least five more seconds you would’ve gotten the fearful harmony screen. Sadly not all of us are that lucky I experience the fearful harmony screen just last year well experimenting on my PlayStation one seeing what Games would work. RIP to me

I was 30 when the original grey PS1 came out & the psone was released in the yr 2000. The PS1 had similar memory cards to the ps2 but held less data. Some PS1 games had the black disc (cant remember why). My favourite PS1 games were crash bandicoot (1996) & Spyro the dragon (1998) which have been/will be remastered for the ps4, xbox & nintendo switch. I have a PS1, ps2, ps3 & ps4 which all still work yay PlayStation rocks :)
