  • In this video, I will be showing you how to build regression models in Weka using linear regression and various machine learning algorithms (random forest, support vector machine and neural network). Weka is a GUI-based machine learning that provides access to a complete collection of functionalities to perform data science tasks (no coding) in a point-and-click fashion. This tutorial is suitable for beginners and those wanting to break into data science.

      Hi Dr. I would like to perform structural equation modelling in my PhD study. I found out that in the tutorial video, normalisation of data only require to click the icons and then the visualisation of the data will be available at the right side of WEKA. However, I understand that, in most cases normalization of data require methods such as the box plots, checking for kurtosis and skewness and others.. Also, in SEM it requires exploratory data analysis... And checking for outliers.. Can you explain, is WEKA a valid tool to be used in a PhD study? Thanx.

    Great video! In your experience constructing random forest models, what is the most robust Test Option of WEKA?: 1) Use training set (I suppose means all data are used as training set); 2) Cross-validation (n-folds); or 3) percentage split (%x).
    Or can we simply choose the one that produces the highest R2 value?

    Can Weka tell an apple from an orange, and further, differentiate two types of apple or orange? Anyone here worked with mass spec scan mode data (JCAMP DX files)? These are large, but simple, ASCII files, with X, Y values (m/z space volts), but with many repetitive samplings, like 10 Hz. Any tips on how to pre-process for Weka?

    • @DataProfessor
      @DataProfessor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For high-dimensional data I would recommend to look into using PCA which can be used for interpreting the important features in the loadings plot while the PC scores coefficients can be used for model building in place of the original variables

However, in academia especially in the life sciences, Weka (and other GUI-based tools such as Orange as well as Knime) is quite popular. It's a great tool to get started right away in learning about ML, thus beginner friendly. On a similar note, Knime (a GUI-based ML workflow) is used in the pharmaceutical industry.

    the language used in the video is lucid and the instructor has elaborated every aspect very well. I had a query, most of the time the data set being used for ML exploration consist of single-indicator independent variables,but what would be appropriate for multi-indicator IVs? especially those that are used in psychometric analysis ? These carry categorical values. Any recommendation for further reading or any download Data Professor ?

    • @DataProfessor
      @DataProfessor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching. By single indicator do you mean binary values of 0 and 1? as for categorical values, Weka handles that automatically whereas if using Python you’ll have to do some feature encoding/mapping. For such categorical values, if you’re building a regression model you can have a look at logistic regression but if classification model then there’s my favorite, Random forest and it’s already supported in Weka.

      There are several softwares for which to generate molecular descriptors. The one that I use a lot is called PaDEL-Descriptor and it is available at www.yapcwsoft.com/dd/padeldescriptor/. I made a video showing how to use PaDEL to generate descriptors and how to then prepare it for use as input features to build a ML model. Please check out this fourth video in the Weka series th-cam.com/video/yf3N0nnAFDk/w-d-xo.html
