Big man Paul Di’Anno… With Iron Maiden, he reached the peak of his career. He rose all the way to the top, but he couldn’t stay there for long. From the highest point, he fell all the way down, never managing to reclaim the fame he had lost. Meanwhile, Iron Maiden grew right before his eyes, expanding beyond the working-class suburbs of London, beyond England, into a global legend. I am sure that for the rest of his life, Paul could never forgive himself for failing to make the most of the opportunity that came his way during his youth with Iron Maiden. Perhaps this regret even pushed him further down. But despite all his weaknesses, Paul kept fighting until the very end. He tried, tried, and tried again. Without ever giving up… Now, I bid farewell to him, with tears in my eyes, through the words of Remember Tomorrow, sung with that beautiful voice of his. To the great Paul… Unchain the colours, before my eyes Yesterday's sorrows, tomorrow's white lies Scan the horizon, the clouds take me higher I shall return, from out of the... Oh! Tears for remembrance, and tears for joy Tears for somebody, but this lonely boy Out in the madness, the all seeing eye Flickers above us, to light up the... Sky! Unchain the colours, before my eyes Yesterday's sorrows, tomorrow's white lies Scan the horizon, the clouds take me higher I shall return from out of the... Fire!

I once saw an interview in which Bruce recalls his days in Samson. They were playing a gig with other bands and he says that when Iron Maiden played this song, he was speechless. Definitely one of Maiden top songs ever. A masterpiece!
Their harmonics are just unmatched.. pure magic.. Dave and Adrian are two of the very best and Clive Burr was so under rated.. He was an amazing drummer.
+maidenrulz73 Yep. Nicko is vastly inferior and doesn't hold a candle to Clive's savagery. The stated reason for kicking him out was bullshit too. "Substance abuse problems" my ass. Everyone was going through shit like that, even Bruce has stated it himself. To this day, they haven't given a proper explanation for why they sacked the poor guy.
+ShadowStrangle55 The greatest tragedy in the history of Metal. Nicko is a joke compared to Clive. I saw 2 nights of the Powerslave tour (the nights they recorded in Long Beach for Live After Death) The drumming on Clive's songs was pathetic. Nicko can't pull off any of Clive's songs. I don't care how many fucking albums they put out, the first 3 with Clive were vastly superior to anything since.
+György Hirschléger Yeah, Steve is the overlord of the band. Him and Rod Smallwood most likely came to a collective decision to replace Clive with Nicko. I'm also suspicious that Nicko may have influenced their decision as well, since he was their roadie at the time. Of course, they all blame it on "substance abuse".
People often forget about Steve Harris, but he is/was significantly more important in the history of iron maiden than any other member of the band, without him, there would be no iron maiden Steve Harris=Legend
No Maiden performance will ever top this. There is just so amazing energy in it, an air of anger, ambition, violence and hope. No theatrics, no huge stadiums, just pure heart and great playing. And, of course, Paul Di Anno whose voice I consider among the best rock voices ever, plus the impeccable drum machine called Clive Burr, may he rest in peace. Bruce is an excellent singer and Nicko is a good technician (although rhythmically somewhat unstable), but that line up was just the best, the true Iron Maiden. Harsh, dirty, punky, street metal - and it has aged so much better than the Bruce stuff of the stadium era.
Look Paul’s era is great and he’s one of my favorite metal singers but there’s no way stuff like Running Free and Sanctuary are better than stuff like Powerslave and Moonchild And the theatrics really bring the songs to life
@@davidhooks6325 I bought the 1st & 2nd album when they were released. Saw them live on their first album tour & met band members. D'ianno was the sound of Maiden. If you never saw Maiden with Paul, you would not understand what a HUGE loss he was. Bruce did okay, give me Paul ANY day of the week. This version of the band wiped the floor with everything around it! Superb.
The style of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, twin guitar, amazing synchronized/harmonized solos by all instruments is a lost art. The two masters of metal bands cannot be imitated by anyone.
I agree with you, it sounds amazing and these bands specialize in it. Maiden and Priest are two of my favorite bands. If you like that harmonizing guitar you should check out some Thin Lizzy (maybe you already have). Those guys invented the sound and rock pretty hard. They may not be metal but they were definitely a huge influence.
It's also a little known fact that it was Di'anno who sank the Belgrano, he had to leave Maiden because Her Majesty's Government needed him as a sonic weapon.
YT randomly suggested me this song 2-3 years ago. Before i didn't knew, Iron Maiden had you as singer back in the days. I heard that version like100 times, you rocked that song! Thanks for that, Paul. RIP!

Have to agree!! Clive and Di'Anno is the oil and coolant in the engine! 1970 Firebird firing on all cylinders!!!
So thankful I saw you twice in 81.Once opening for Priest, once opening for Ozzy.🎶🙏Long Live Rock.RIP
The style of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, twin guitar, amazing synchronized/harmonized solos by all instruments is a lost art. The two masters of metal bands cannot be imitated by anyone.
***** Another good one is HammerFall
I agree with you, it sounds amazing and these bands specialize in it. Maiden and Priest are two of my favorite bands. If you like that harmonizing guitar you should check out some Thin Lizzy (maybe you already have). Those guys invented the sound and rock pretty hard. They may not be metal but they were definitely a huge influence.
Axl Kix
Yes, Thin Lizzy did this well. The Boys Are Back in Town is a prime example. The Allman Brothers did it as well.
Alex Lifeson does it with himself
megadeth
RIP Clive. A sincere thank you to Paul for his contribution to Iron Maiden. Still some of my favorite tracks and live performances. \m/
This ultimate Iron Maiden lineup is my all time favorite rock band!
Vuela alto,Paul. Vuela hasta un lugar en el que ya no sentirás dolor. Gracias y mil veces gracias por ponerle música a mi infancia. Up the Irons !!!
The legend says Steve Harris can lift a car with his fingers
And tickle someone to death
It's also a little known fact that it was Di'anno who sank the Belgrano, he had to leave Maiden because Her Majesty's Government needed him as a sonic weapon.
Awesome
@EmilyEstelle82 too much info
Best live version of this song by far.
The rawness, the power, the beginnings of things to come. I love this. The greatest band in the world.
YT randomly suggested me this song 2-3 years ago. Before i didn't knew, Iron Maiden had you as singer back in the days. I heard that version like100 times, you rocked that song! Thanks for that, Paul. RIP!
Simply AMAZING!!!! Early Iron Maiden was the best!! Clive Burr was monstrous on drums!!!
Regards from Italy
Clive era davvero il meglio!Ciao compaesano
Sono d'accordo! Ciao a te 😉👍
RiP Paul. A true legend 🤘
By far the most swagger out of any heavy metal frontman. Dude just had that punk attitude and aesthetic.
"Phantom of the Opera", la canción que a mis 17 años escuchaba cinco veces seguidas antes de irme a dormir.¡Alucinante! Mi canción favorita de La Doncella
Что случилось после 17 лет? Ты перестал слушать NWBHM?
Strange
I've probably watched this a thousand times, no joke. Never gets old. 🇬🇧🤘Up The Irons 🇬🇧🤘
Gets better every year!!!!!
