  • A recent study finds Americans are choosing to live further from their offices, embracing remote work and more retired living over classic office work models. Emma Goldberg, a business reporter for the New York Times, joins CBS News with a look at the data.

And people value time with family more than time with coworkers. Also as it should be. Work to live. Don’t live to work.

i was living in AZ for work and we switched to WFH right at a time where i had to move back home to take care of a family member in PA. The biggest blessing i could have had was being able to keep my job and financial stability while taking care of them. And my productivity was even better than before.

Imagine how much of a tool you have to be for corporations think that anyone genuinely likes their coworkers instead of tolerating them for a paycheck lmao.

As it should be. Companies can hire from a much bigger pool of applicants and workers have the flexibility to live where they want. Those employees also contribute more to their local economies. Win-win all around.

This interview is misleading because they're not actually talking about remote work, but rather hybrid work. In remote work, you don't physically go to the office, so distance doesn't really matter. Given the fact that we work remotely and 100% of our communication is done through Microsoft Teams, Slack, Outlook, Zoom-regardless of our roles-these applications allow us to be anywhere in the world other than the office. So, why would it make sense to go to an office to use these applications when you can do this remotely from anywhere in the world? Please make sense of that.

Office vacancies rising. CRE cracking and its debt along with it. Cities tax revenues declining as well. Real trouble headed our way.

I hate these types of stories because they sit in a vacuum and aver that people miss water cooler conversations. There is nothing said at the water cooler that I wouldn't have been better served missing. No one is taking about work at the water cool. They are making awkward small talk while they wait on their turn at the coffee machine. And there is always a market to tell CEOs what they want to hear. So I'm sure there are consulting firms who are telling them they've done research that backs people miss the office and are more productive there. But then when they actually poll their own employees their response is the total opposite. And here's the real kicker, if productivity were really suffering from remote work, you wouldn't need a consultant to tell you that. It would show.

One of our flex workers hasn't logged into the remote server for months so we called her and her dog ate her homework.

    Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
