    I'm from Chico/Paradise. Spent many days hiking along the creek with my cameras. Thanks for sharing

    great video bren. the shot at 6:30 is so good. thanks for sharing your thoughts...

      That is also one of my favorite shots! I will have to go back to photograph this scene when it is extra green in the spring

    I think in aligning the film while loading with 120 you use the circle window for the arrow alignment, not the square one.

      I'll make sure to give that a try next time that I use the back!

    love the shots, I, however went the sinar route, with an F2 with this lens (Fujinon 90 SW f8), so nice to see the results of this, I also got the sinar zoom back with vario adaptor mask( this is a variable back, 6x4.5 to 6x12, and has a blind system, not a pull-out darkslide, the format masks act as darkslide, just a different knob, one to set 'stops' to which the masks hit, when the darkslide knob is turned to open); one + for this route is the large monorail, which can allow for macro, and longer telephoto lenses, for close focus work.

    • @ExpiredBren
      @ExpiredBren  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Sinar zoom back seems like an incredible piece of kit! The Cambo back tends to have light leak issues through the darkslide light trap (even though I keep the darkslide partially inserted)

      yes it is, but a quality piece of engineering, esp. for AUD$1,500 for this alone!, and sensitive, so do everything by the instructions, more so if you want to change formats mid roll (Yes, this can do this, an addendum to my comment, I have a Vario back, the Zoom CAN'T change mid roll, the Vario can); another addenda, my lens is an f 5.6, not f 8 ! a big difference! this is a 95mm+ filter diameter, hourglass shape ( so the std square 100mm systems won't fit it!), and you still have to check the lens coverage, so you know it fits the format without vignetting. @@ExpiredBren

    Loved this video - I want to try 6x12 really badly - need to find a back though

      Finding a back is definitely the hard part, otherwise it goes quite well hand in hang with large format

    I have taken to pinhole 6 x 9 with good results on B & W film. Hope to visit Bidwell very soon this spring 2024.
    Check my you tube for the devils kitchen video. Thanks again for sharing!

    Having such a landscape right next to your door, you HAVE to shoot landscapes

    I have been shooting with my Cambo 6x12 back and am getting a scratch across the middle of the shots. I think there is a burr or something inside it and need to get ut fixed. That said, aside from the savings I get from shooting color in 120 to save money (the reason I only shoot color on my 4x5. If I wanted a pano aspect ratio on 4x5 ideally i would just shoot 4x5 Provia and just crop.

    • @ExpiredBren
      @ExpiredBren  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have been having the same issue with a large scratch down the middle of my negatives. I have tried my best but have had no luck finding the source.
      I also get frequent light leaks through the light trap. I actually disassembled the light trap and inspected the material used to prevent leak. The material was in great shape still, so it's been a challenge solving that issue. I've also tried leaving the dark slide partially inserted into the light trap but that doesn't seem to help.

    • @burneshollyman2621
      @burneshollyman2621 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ExpiredBren I have scratch marks down the middle of the dark slide so I assume there is a burr on the channel that the darkslide goes through. But the film doesn't contact there so I have no idea. I am taking it into have the cam mechanics take it apart and see what's up. I find it more than interesting that you have the same problem.

    Nicely put-together video Bren...I love the contrast of the tree picture at 3:12...and the idea of researching and reproducing old photographs. Great idea for us. Keep posting...you've got something helpful to share.

    Very nice work along with some solid information. Please let me know if you ever consider parting with that 6X12 back. I've been looking and haven't been able to find one. Do you have any suggestions where I might find one? Thanks and keep up the good work.

      Thanks Richard! I will make sure to remember that👍 I haven’t found one of these up for sale before, so they must be fairly uncommon. I see quite a few Horseman 6x12 backs on eBay but not much else

    • @richardmasseyphotography
      @richardmasseyphotography ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ExpiredBren Yes, they are very hard to find. I have the Cambo 6X9 and love it. It is my favorite format for general work, but that 6X12 is perfect for landscapes. I too have found several Horseman 6X12s but they require removal of the GG. I much prefer ones that slide under the GG. Always nice hearing from you.

    Nice work. That Cambo 6x12 back is the same as the Calumet C2/C2n. They were available as 6x7, 6x9 and 6x12. The 6x7 is very common, the 6x9 version very rare, and the 6x12 version rarer than hen's teeth. At one time, a few years ago, there was a guy with a couple of the 6x12 versions on eBay and they ended up fetching more than the 6x12 Horseman back, which is way better quality but typically run around $660-750. You get really lucky finding an affordable 6x12 version.

    • @ExpiredBren
      @ExpiredBren  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I certainly do feel lucky! This back definitely has its draw backs. It is really prone to light leaks through the light trap (even though the light trap is material is in perfect condition). I would be curious to try the Horseman version for that reason!

    • @burneshollyman2621
      @burneshollyman2621 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I got lucky and found one on eBay for $150. But yeah, these backs cost more than the darn cameras they go on. 6x9’s are all over the place for not much money.

    Hi, I found one, Cambo 6x12 roll film back, for sale. If you don't mind, what are your overall thoughts about it?

    • @ExpiredBren
      @ExpiredBren  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I do like that it is usable for practically all 4x5 cameras without having to remove the ground glass.
      Ease of use is quite nice as well.
      What I don’t like is that it’s tough to load rolls of film so that it both stays on the spool and doesn’t expose part of the first shot.
      Also the light trap for this back is really prone to light leaks.
