How many times is JERUSALEM mentioned in the Quran (the answer may surprise you)

  • My name is Dafna Koren Cohen, a mother to three little kids, and a tour guide in Israel since 2009. I also own an M.A in history of the land of Israel from Haifa University.
As part of my studies and my work (especially in Jerusalem) I have studied the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament and the Quran in depth and it never stopped fascinating me. The more you read and learn them - the more you find how similar they are to one another, and built upon one another.
Most people might don't know it because they are focused on their religion only, and in so many cases they are not even familiar with their own religion's holy scriptures - but mainly with its commentary and traditions.
The war between Israel and Hamas goes way beyond its physical borders. it is a war between extreme Islam and the other religions (including moderate Islam), its a war between two cultures, between two civilizations, a war between good and evil.
Israel happened to be at its forefront. But this war has to do with each and every one of you - and it might knock on you door too in the near future.
The way to stop it is first of all educate ourselves and understand the threats. The second step is to draw borders to the threat, and dismantle it.

Either I've missed it, or you forgot to mention that while the Jews pray, anywhere in the world, they turn their faces to Jerusalem. When Muslims pray, anywhere in the world, they turn their backs to Jerusalem (they face their direction to Mecca.)

Sorry but you are wrong, muslims don't turn their back to Jerusalem. During prayers, we turn to Kaaba, the holiest mosque in the world which was built by prophet Abraham and his son Ismael. It doesn't mean we disrespect jerusalem or other holy sites.
If you read Quran, you will see that it addresses Beni Israel multiple times and warns them to not hide the truth knowingly. And remember the favours He bestowed upon you and how He supported you throughout many calamities , so you shouldn't destroy the mosques where his holy names being called and prayed and should not tear apart those scriptures that Muslims recite verses therein!

Am a palestinian atheist from an Islamic background, I read the Quran and it was mentioned in the Quran as The "Holy land" in Arabic (الأرض المقدسة) , in Arabic the City name is ( القدس ) the same meaning as the city that was made holy by God. when you say بيت المقدس , it refers to the holy area Alqsa mosque . I want to also point when Islam came to Palestine there were no Temple in the area for the ancient Israelites (which was destroyed by the romans and even by an earthquake 6 centuries before Islam arrival) , The Muslims knew the place by its famous land mark "The Rock " which is believed to be a sacred place even at the days of Canaanites, many historian points it was an Altar for sacrifices thousands of years before all Abrahamic religions.
The Muslims regarded Jerusalem as holy before mecca, they used to pray to Jerusalem before they made it to mecca that's why it is called (أولى القبلتين) which means the first direction for prayers , the 2nd thing to note that the conquer of Jerusalem by Muslims from the Romans was a major event , all prominent Muslim leaders at that time were there, The caliph himself Omar ibn al Khattab, The legendary Arab general Khalid ibn al Waleed ,and the leader of all the Arab armies Abu Ubaidah Amir ibn Al- jarrah and many others from who were known as the prophet's companions (ألصحابة). that didn't happen in any other city or country which points the religious significance of Jerusalem in Islam. and Later, the most elegant Islamic building was built above the rock (Dome of the Rock). I want to also to point the that Muslims don't regard Israelite kings and prophets as only Jews, they consider them Muslims prophets too.
its funny that after nearly 2000 years of the 2nd temple destruction , many of current day religious Zionists want to rebuild a 3rd temple on that location, I wonder why they don't build it on an empty land nearby ?? you know that will lead to a religious war.

0:18 Jerusalem is not mentioned, the temple mount (Al Aqsa) is, which is in Jerusalem.
0:26 Incorrect, "Al arth Al Muqadassa" is mentioned - "the holy land", the Gates of the holy land, and more are mentioned. The covenant to Bani-Isreal (Children of Isreal) is explicitly mentioned in the quran as is the holy land. Verse 21:71 states "And we rescued him (Ibrahim) and Lut to the land we have blessed for all peoples". This land (Cannan/Jerusalem/Bethel, etc.) is described with the word "Al Arth Al Muqadassa" (the blessed land). This is why we call the mount "Beit Al Maqadis."
0:45 You are reading the english translation, and there is no interpretation that is required. The Quran quotes that Muhammed was taken from "Masjid al Haram" to "Masjid al Aqsa." The "Sacred Mosque" and "Furthest Mosque" are just literal translations for non-arabic speakers. Masjid al Haram is in Saudi arabia and Masjid al Aqsa is the entire compound area where the previous prophets had places of worship, i.e. Solomon's Temple. Whether there is a building there or anything there, the area is a place of worship, hence the word "Masjid". You must remember that in Islam we beleive in all of the prophets, and those places of worship that jews call the temple, we regard as places of worship as well. We believe all prophets were beleivers and as such any of the sites of worship they built are also holy to us. The Quran calls Solomon's temple a Masjid in 17:7: "...and enter the Temple (of Jerusalem) as they had entered the first time, and destroy whatever they could lay their hands on." The Quran calls the temple "Al-masjid" in arabic - THE mosque, as it was a place of prayer.
1:25 The site of the temple is know to Muslims as Beit al Maqadis. As you described, the hebrew word for the temple mount and the arabic word for the temple mount are quite similar, and that is because they refer to the same exact area. Beit HaMikdash is akin to Beit al Maqdis because they are the same thing and they translate to the same thing. Beit Al Maqadis literally translates to "the holy house". For this reason, the first direction of prayer was actually to Bait al Maqadis (Al Aqsa). The prophet Muhammed prayed in the direction of Beit al Maqdis for 16 months. This was before god changed the qibla (direction of prayer) to be that of Makkah in the quran.
2:55 Not it was not based on the fact that this was an already sacred place to Jews and Christians. It was sacred to all of the muslim prophets before, becuase the muslim prophets built it and it was the first Qibla. Notice the term "most likely" here.
3:34 Incorrect for the reasons above. This is already Beit al Maqadis, it has already been a spiritual center for centuries. Again the term "likley" is used here.
4:05 This may be the most vicious allegation here. This is wildly inccorect. The Muslims DO NOT deny the Temples location because we inherantly beleive in it. That was a blatant false allegation. You are talking about a small minority of muslims who "deny the temples." You are arguing against a strawman.
6:03 Unsubstantiated claims that have been proven false, yet you used them 2 months after.
6:25 This is a loaded one. Firstly, the "concession" of forbidding Jews to pray on the temple mount is not much of a concession at all. It has long been the status quo that Jews cannot pray on the mount as stated by Halakhah. Furthurmore the building of a 3rd temple is not permissible until messianic times. Even during the ottoman times, Rabbis forbade praying on the mount. This is much more of a rule internally to judaism, regardless of what sits on the mount now, and regardless of the growing shift for jews to want to pray there. And I am not denying that it is the holiest site to Jews, it is. But it is still of scholarly opinion that Jews cannot pray there, and must avoid stepping in the area of the Holy of Holies(of which the location in unknown). Aside, you also dont mention the Western wall, which acts as the equivilent holy place for Jewish worship.
You also dont mention that rising tensions led to Isreal restricting Al Aqsa more and more, and in response the muslims limited Jewish visitation. This was not an issue in the 1980s, but of course now it is as the conflict continues to snowball.
6:50 Yet they have never ever recognized a soverign arabic state for the arabs living there for centuries.
7:25 I am afraid you are not being honest. They have rights to pray there but it is not "without restricution." Every year there is a conflict of restriction at Al Aqsa.
9:03 Again, it is not the muslims that have historically stopped prayer at the mount, it has been Jewish ruling.
9:20 This has not been an large issue under muslim rule. But thanks to all of the Geo-political tension introduced by zionists, now it is. There is nothing islamically that forbids jews from practicing, as has been shown historically.
9:44 The attempt to forcefully instill a jewish state against a majority of arabs was welcomed by Jews. We are now in a violent cycle 75 years later and god knows when it will stop. You cannot dangle the stolen lands in front of someone and expect peace. The Jews have rights to the land just as the arabs do. The problem occurs when Jews beleive their rights can overide those of others. Arabs and Jews lived side by side for centuries and now we have walls between us and blood has been shed like never before. We all want peace, but justice must be acheived first.
We have differing opinions but your commentary here just stirs the pot between two religions. The same way that zionists shattered the peace in the shared holy land. This is presented as a "centrist" video but as usual, it is propaganda that falls short, either deliberately by omission or by misunderstanding. Please do better. Salam and Shalom.

So Dafna didn't forget anything and despite my sarcastic comment earlier I think she did a good job and didn't leave anything out.
      My response was this one:
Palestinian passports of course. How is that you did not know? One more thing, When and why jews were expelled from those lands? How many nations took control of those lands prior to the Palestines? Mandatory Palestine passports were travel documents issued by british authorities in Mandatory Palestine to residents between 1925 and 1948. Google it, is free like in... Free Palestine. Jews that lived in Palestine used Palestine passaports to travel and as ID. Now you know.

Have you ever noticed that the bible (the torah and the gospel) was mentioned in quran plenty of times but quran was never mentioned in the bible? It is because the holy bible has been written and compiled more than 650 years before mohammad. Quran was very badly copied from the holy bible.
It is written in quran that allah and mohammad had affirmed the bible as the TRUTH and commands all muslims to read and follow the bible as instruction and guidance for the righteous. Have you obeyed your allah and read and followed the bible as guidance and instruction for the righteous. Are you righteous now?
And according to quran, the people of the gospel will judge you. Jesus is the one from the gospel who will judge you. Only a God will judge mankind to eternity. Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and saviour??
And if allah and mohammad had affirmed that the bible is the TRUTH, then that will mean that the triune GOD is the TRUTH!!
Allah's apostle said: The most awful name in allah's sight on the day of resurrection will be that of a man calling himself "Malik al-Amlak" (The King of Kings).
      (Bukhari 8:73:224)
JESUS is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords
Jesus is the Christ, the messiah, the anointed one. By logic, the anti-christ will come from a religion that dont believe in the gospel and who have deceived others by bringing a false gospel like what was written in quran about Jesus.

    4. History proves it also. Israel was invaded a few times with massacre taking place.
5.Abraham and his progeny did not have hardly much land. Looks like someone changed the Torah as Quran tells us.
    6. It was our Qibla also. And because previous prophets in Torah is also our prophets.

Which came first, the Torah or the Quran? Ishmael was not chosen by God. In fact, Ishmael was rejected because God promised Abraham and SARA that they were have a son. His name was Isaac. Isaac’s sons were Esau and Jacob. Jacob’s name was changed to Israel. Every single prophet that the Bible gives comes directly from the line of Israel. Moses delivered the Children of Israel. David was the King of Israel. Solomon, son of King David, built the first temple of God. Esther, delivered the Jews from Hamon while they were in captivity in Persia. Daniel was a Jewish Prophet while in captivity in ancient Babylon. They were taken captive went Jerusalem was invaded. Jesus was Jewish. Born of a Jewish mother and conceived by Gods spirit….the same spirit that was breathed into Adam after God made him out of the dust and clay. The story of our existence as a human race has been explained well. It’s all in the Bible. Muhammad was not mentioned but was eluded to when Jesus when he said, beware of false prophets who come.

A side topic but significantly related is the relationship between Hitler and Amin Al-husseini. Upon reading the History of the Nazi's and Hitler's use of the Jews to expand his influence Al-husseini played a pivotal role in the propaganda and the policies for the extermination of the Jews. This was during the early formation of the Zionist movement, the Balfour agreement and the opposition by Al-husseini to the formation of the Jewish state leading up to 1948. He was one seriously violent dude and Hitler built a very close relationship with him. That part of the rise of the Nazi's lays the foundation to the most horrific pages of human history, lessons it would appear the advocates calling for a two state solution wish to ignor. But it's not just the Jews and Muslims who seek to take control of the Temple Mount, so does Satan himself. Watching world events it would appear that time will soon be upon us, as it was written. Stay strong Israel.

Mostly it was because Al-Husseini rejected the British and instigated attacks against their "British Mandate over Palestine" and he was exiled from Palestine in 1937 in response for starting the Arab revolt in Palestine during 1936 , the revolt lasted until 1939 which is around the time Hitler came to power. I guess Al-Husseini who also hated Jews seen a Nazi Palestine as an alternative to British Palestine. Unfortunately some Arabs in Israel still read Hitler's book. Its called Baytul Maqadus in Islam. You do know muslim used to pray towards Jerusalem and then change it to Kaaba. We are very well aware in 1400s of Islamic Scholars where it is. We do not need Isrealis to educate us when they do not know their way around Quran and hadith, and how to weigh islamic hadiths and the islamic sciences behind interpretation...
Its relates that the Prophet (saw) said:
“A prayer in Makkah (Ka’bah) is worth 1000,000 times (reward), a prayer in my Masjid (Madinah) is worth 1,000 times, and a prayer in Al-Aqsa Sanctuary is worth 500 times more reward than anywhere else”
      [Bayhaqi]
Abu Dharr (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
“We were discussing when we were with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), which is better, the Mosque of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) or Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “One prayer in my mosque is better than four prayers offered there (in Bayt al-Maqdis), and what a good place of prayer it is. Soon there will come a time when, if a man has a piece of land the size of a horse’s rope from which he can see Bayt al-Maqdis, that will be better for him than the whole world.”
      [ al-Haakim, 4/509]
Anas Ibn Malik (ra) relates that the Prophet (saw) said:
“A man’s prayer in his house is equal (in reward) to 1 prayer; his prayer in the mosque of the tribes is equal to 25 prayers; his prayer in the mosque in which Friday prayer is offered is equal to 500 prayers; his prayer in Aqsa Mosque is equal to 50,000 prayers; his prayer in my mosque is equal to 50,000 prayers; and his prayer in the Sacred Mosque is equal to 100,000 prayers.”
      [Ibn Majah - Daeef Hadith]
Abdullah Ibn Amr reports that the prophet (ﷺ) said:
“When Sulaiman bin Dawud finished building Baitil-Maqdis, he asked Allah for three things: judgment that was in harmony with His judgment, a dominion that no one after him would have, and that no one should come to this mosque, intending only to pray there, but he would emerge free of sin as the day his mother bore him.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Two prayers were granted, and I hope that the third was also granted.”
      [Ibn Majah]
      Al-Bara (ra) narrated that:
“We prayed toward Bait Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) for sixteen or seventeen months - Safwan was not sure - then it was changed to the Qiblah.”
      [An Nasa’i 488]
      Al Isra Blessings For Ummah
      Abu Hurayrah (ra) narrated that:
Allah’s Messenger (saw) was presented with two cups one containing wine and the other milk on the night of his night journey at Jerusalem. He looked at it and took the milk. Gabriel said, “Thanks to Allah Who guided you to the Fitra (i.e. Islam); if you had taken the wine, your followers would have gone astray.”
      [Bukhari vol 6, book 60, Hadith 232]
Ibn Mas’ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “I met Ibrahim (ﷺ) on the Night of Ascension (Al-Asra), and he said to me: ‘O Muhammad, convey my greetings to your Ummah, and tell them that Jannah has a vast plain of pure soil and sweet water. It is a plain levelled land. The plants grow there by uttering: Subhan-Allah, Al-hamdu lillah, La ilaha illallah and Allahu Akbar (Allah is free from imperfection; praise be to Allah; there is no true god except Allah; and Allah is Greatest).”

And right there is the problem: too politically correct, too appeasing and therefore ineffective. Mistake after mistake. Like in 1967 when Israel gave the rights of administration to Muslims and now complaining that the Jews are at their mercy (a concept which they don't understand anyway). And the concluding plea at the end: "stop the lies, stop the violence, respect the people of the book" it's like talking to a wolf and ask him to be nice and treat the sheep with gentleness and love. The cherry on top were the very last words: "just like Muhammad did". WOW! Muhammad killed Kenana ibn Al-Rabbi and took his wife Safiyya bint Huyayy as "wife" for himself setting the example for Oct 7 events (plural).

Calculating the numerology of the word "Iron" in arabic which is "Hadid" based on the Arabic Jummal letter/number system created before islam more than 300 years; gives the result 26 , this is the atomic number of iron
Calculating the numerology of the word "al-hadid" which means "the iron" = 57
57 is the average atomic mass among three stable isotopes of iron 56,57 and 58, which are the most widespread in nature. Also, the order of chapter Al-Hadid in the Qur’an is 57.
The question: What is the probability of coincidence that the numerology of "the iron" and " iron" in arabic equal the value of atomic mass and atomic number of iron discovered by non-Muslim atomic physicists, and we, as believers in God who follow all the messengers, believe that God knows the future like the past.

Islam has destroyed itself with its own lies. It is now up to you if you will continue to believe the lies. Remember that it is written in quran that allah is the best of deceivers.
      Allah is a false god.
Islam is a false religion created by a false prophet.
According to quran and hadiths allah and the other islamic gods killed mohammad by cutting his aorta for being a false prophet.
False prophet means, islam is false and allah is a false god.
      SAHIH AL BUKHARI 4428
Narrated Aisha: the prophet in his ailment in which he died, used to say, "O Aisha! I still feel the pain caused by the food I ate at Khaybar, and at this time, I feel as if my aorta is being cut from that poison".
Prophet mohammad died the same way he prophesied if he was a false prophet.

If u just happen to read the English translated version of Quran and acted like u know it well shame on u because Quran is the words of Allah and it’s in Arabic . Even for an Arab muslim who speaks Arab daily , they don’t understand entirely the whole book because it’s a book of Allah and need people who studies years and years and also refer the sources from (Hadith) words or action performed by Muhammad ( peace be upon him ) . U can’t just learn it from Google and act like u know it . And plus , there’s nothing coincidence nor absurd about Muhammad went to Al Aqsa for the night journey since prophet Suleimen build it . Suleiman was a prophet in Islam so did Daud (King David) . All prophets in fact teaches the same religion (to worship Allah , the one God) but they had been given their own book or revelation . For instance Daud was given Zabur, Musa was given Torah, Isa was given Injil and Muhammad (peace be upon him was given Al Quran) . All those 3 older books were from Allah but when Quran was revealed to Muhammad ( peace be upon him) , it becomes the only book that human should be following because it consists about everything, from the way u should be living ur life , history , and everything . By the way if u so interested in reading Quran , why not I go and read Surah Al Baqarah . It’s the longest surah in Quran and it tells the story about Bani Israel so many times and how they disobeyed prophets , cheers .

Why did the Muslim pray towards Jerusalem before mecca if they didn't think Jerusalem was a holy place?

Al Aqsa is Muslim sacred Mosque cause it was built by Solomon pbuh, Solomon is Muslim prophet. Muslim used to pray to Al Aqsa direction before Allah changed the direction which mentioned in the Quran. Allah arranged night journey of Mohammad from Makkah Grand Mosque to Al Aqsah in Jerusalem. It's very expected that Allah would arrange night journey of Mohammad between two most sacred Mosque, between a mosque by Abraham pbuh and another Mosque built by Solomon pbuh. There is no strange thing in it.

With Muslims, there is no collaboration. They see Islam as superior to other religions. They want all the land in the world to submit to Allah.

If you ask me why God brought Mohammed to Jerusalem: I think it is some kind of excursion, to show Mohammed where his predecessors and their people lived, etc.

What Temple did Muhammad visit, enter and pray at before ascending to heaven?
Seeing that the Quran mentions a journey to a Mosque that did not exist during the lifetime of Muhammad, how can you consider the Quran to be 100% the word of God?
In light of the fact that both the Quran and the Islamic traditions contain this historical error, how can you trust either source to provide you with reliable information on the life of Muhammad and the first Muslims?
Does not the fact that the Quran mentions a Mosque which was only erected in AD 691 prove that there were Muslims who unashamedly and deceitfully added stories to the Quranic text and passed them off as revelation from God?
If you cannot find an answer to this historical problem within the Quran, why do you still remain a Muslim?... by Sam Shamoun!

So russia is not mentioned in the Quran, but it is called rom (byzanthium) in the quran. So you can keep looking for country named russia in the quran till your eyeballs roast all you want.
I guess accoring to your way of thinking, egypt was never mentioned in the quran either because there is no such name in their!
Was the name Petra mentioned by name in quran? Or pompeii? Am sure you read wiki, britanica & google?
There was no Jewish temple ever....there was a roman temple built by herod. Remember your book was forged by your rabbis confirmed by your jeremaiah. No evidence ever exit for solomons temple.

So keeping the peace means bombardment rather than defending ones boundaries firmly. Initial pride and determination is so lacking here. I just don't get the thinking of being kind to people who do not deserve that kindness, and then completely bombing them out of house and home, when they take that kindness for granted by usurping boundaries they were never meant to have access or cross in the first place! Something is off. I think only a higher power and I'm not talking religion, I'm talking spiritual can save us all now, where ever we are in the world.

I'm sure there was no mosque in jerusalem when mhmd died.

Al Aqso is not the building with yellow dome. Al Aqso is the one opposite of it. You need to read About Al Aqso from the perspective of Islam. al Aqso is our fist qibla. We faced Al Aqso before Allah commended to face to Kabatulloh in Macca. Al Aqso is where our beloved prophet was Imam for all Prophets and from where travelled to the heavens. Al Aqso is the third holly masjid in Islam
