Ahhh. dear Les - hearing your voice, just as I always remembered you. Well spoken, charming, genuine and friendly but no added piffle or nonsense. I love how the ticket machine plays a Mario beep as people swipe their cards 😂 - I think this has to be one of your finest videos to date!! PS: I hope they have their brakes serviced thoroughly!
You would need the Interurban not the Urban pass. The single fare is less than €4 each way but I buy the Interurban and also use it in town. Check the timetable carefully as the 81 takes different routes at different times. I take the 09.00 or 10.00 from Funchal to Eira do Serrado for the views then a later 81 to either Curral das Freires or stay on for the lovely drive through the valley
Hi Samuel. There are four bus companies on Madeira, which do not operate in a way particularly helpful to travelers as they do not cooperate with one another. Fortunately, the best of them, in my opinion is Horarios do Funchal and it is they who operate the bus No. 81 to Curral das Freiras which sometimes also stops at Eira do Serrado with the bus indicated by the letter 'B' on the timetable. Careful though, the 09.00 service only stops at the viewpoint by request. Horarios website and mobile App are excellent. It is an 'Interurban' service so passes such as the Day Pass are more expensive than 'urban' passes but the single fare is very cheap. If you were to travel in the morning and want to return to Funchal, also in t he morning, you would have to travel on to Curral das Freiras as the return buses only stop at Eira do Serrado for Funchal, in the afternoon. Confusing, but well worth the hassle. www.horariosdofunchal.pt/mobile/apresenta_horario.php?lang=en

Così ho girato tutta l'isola di Madeira ed è stato una bellissima esperienza. Grazie. Ciao a tutti.
Ciao to you also. Thank you for your comment
Would you know if this route accepts the GIRO24 bus pass, or do I need to purchase a separate bus ticket? Thank you
