Either one works for me, just as long as you talented people continue to play it. I’m a woodwinds fanatic, love flute, oboe and bassoon playing together, add a little violin and cello and I’m in heaven. BTW - take a listen to Ian Anderson’s “Sanctuary” from “Secret Language of Birds” album. A glorious mix of flute and violin.
@ Thank you, you are truly a lovely person and enjoy your channel very much. I fool around on a fife, I own a flute but even though intended to learn to play, I haven’t. It’s actually a purple one. Hahaha
Hi Claire, I tried to find out what Mozart called someone who plays the flute, back in the 1700s in Vienna, and then I found out that he didn't like composing for the flute because he didn't like it, as he wrote to his father.
American here, and I was always taught "flautist," except it's pronounced "flOWtist," with an "OW" sound, as in "How now, Brown Cow?" So it seems there's a third way!
@@ClaireHoldich English is indeed a confusing and difficult language. Therefore, don't be surprised if there are any missmelled words in my comments. 🤣
Darn, I wanted a quiz on Jethro Tull, maybe next time? 🤣🤣🤣
hehe I'll see what I can do Wilbur!! 🤣

That’s a good point! Just when you think it can’t get more complicated! 🤣 Thanks for watching! 😃🙏
The Dutch word fluit is quite generic, used for the whistle of a soccer referee, for a recorder (blokfluit) and a flute (dwarsfluit).
Ooo I never knew that, perhaps I need to explore this more… 🤔 Thanks for watching, and sharing! 😃🙏
English is not my native language, so I never knew there were both flutists and flatulists. 😂
Sorry to cause more confusion (English is definitely good at that!) 🤣
