At age 16 I had just started working in a kitchen at Disneyland. Manhattan Transfer came to do a performance in Tomorrowland, I ended up taking my 30 minute lunch to watch the show. Disneyland did not allow cast members to watch shows in the park nor were they allowed to take an hour to do so. I almost lost my job, but I learned to buy tickets to see MT in the future. Saw them in concert perhaps 20 more times, not risking my job anymore. I will miss their shows at Disneyland (on days off) in Vegas, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Oakland, Tokyo, Seattle, London, Sydney. Thanks MT. You helped me plan vacations all over the world, built my music collection and taught me the American Song Book. You are missed.
Love it. I miss Tim Hauser however Trist sounds like Tim. With my eyes closed I would have thought it was him. Janis, Cheryl and Paul of course were wonderful. They've still got it! Wow what an orchestra. Great concert - I hope they are all staying safe.
I've been a fan of the Transfer since I was 10, and their first album was released. Yes, the one after Tubby the Tuba!! Seen them 5 times in concert over the years. They're getting on a bit now but their years, no make that decades, of experience, shines through in the sheer quality of their singing. In my opinion, still the worlds premier vocal group. I cried when Tim Hauser passed away. He was one of a kind. However, Triss Curless has stepped in to fill the bass part and he's doing a magnificent job. The Transfer still sound like the Transfer, even after all these years. Long may they reign as the best! I've been in a vocal group myself, so I have some experience with this kind of close harmony singing. When Janis belts out the last verse of Operator, or sings Mystery, or many other legendary songs, it still after all these years gives me goose bumps. Way to go!!
First heard them on TV in 1975 at the MDA telethon, I was nine, and literally mesmerized by them. I met Janice in 86 and had the privilege of singing with her! I've seen them in concert easi l y a dozen times and I absolute love them! I could have did this Medley with them due to how long I've been singing these wonderfully arranged tunes! Consistently awesome!!!! The new guy is good but I dearly miss Tim's personality!😢
The Transfer has "stayed the course" through it all. Even with the loss of Tim and earlier with Laurel's accident, the extraordinary quality of pure talent always continues. Cheryl and Trist have remained faithful to Tim's original vision for an innovative yet True Jazz Vocal Group with enormously versatile voices and creativity. Who would have thought a cabbie with a dream and three like minded, equally talented, and creative persons would have been a driving force behind some of the greatest music Worldwide crossing two Centuries. Many thanks for the Memories, Smiles, Tears, and Life! Tim Hauser - Mastermind Janis Siegel - Phenom the Alan Paul - Vocal Seducer Cheryl Bentyne - Songsiren Trist Curless - Amazing Laurel Masse - Songbird Through all these years who could ask for more!
I cannot love this more. Thank you WDR Klassik for capturing and sharing this beautiful concert. I was lucky enough to see the final concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and many, many MT concerts in halls large and small since 1980 for me. We are all the richer for their amazing performances.
Good thing I saw this video. I listened to this magnificent group way back when I was 7 years old, bec. of them I love music . You ignite my soul again.
MT just like NY Voices are always at their best with this brilliant orchestra. I LOVE they way MT just keeps on rocking! I also admire the audience's respect for American artists and GET DRESSED! I miss those days of dressing up for concerts! I still do! Cant wait this pandemic is OVER so I can GO to a real concert.
Wow, my favorite the great Manhattan Transfer. Their music is timeless, brings the youth in me. WDR Funkhausorchester complemented MT's music. Thanks for this video.
I first discovered MT while searching the best big band performance of the famous masterpiece Birdland. Then I just dug in internet whether I could have a chance to watch them live one day in future, preferably in Turkey. I will be seeking such an opportunity, independent of location. I already know WDR and their excellent performances, but this concert seems to be unforgettable. Thank you, god save you!
Niesamowity koncert, niesamowity kwartet, niesamowita orkiestra, niesamowita atmosfera z krainy czarów.
Sometimes I just can't find the words when I hear them sing. Saw them in concert 3 times. Unforgettable. They just get better. The orchestration behind is good, but I thought at times they were a little overpowering to the voices. Still great though.
No. That overpowering is just a natural fact cause they wouldn´t get a chance to be heard against an orchestra that size. It´s a matter of the PA engineer.
Absolutely timeless and wonderful ! Birdland wrongly credited to the great Gil Evans though.....let"s not forget that the composer is the late and one of a kind JOE ZAWINUL .
I'm a brass player by trade -- low brass, with the rest of the knuckledraggers, actually - but I have ALWAYS loved MHT. Hard not to. They are disciplined, but so willing to explore different sounds, different genres. SO excellent. (The new guy ain't so bad, either - lol) RIP Tim Hauser, but I am so pleased to see that MHT continues on. Tim would have like it that way too, I'm sure.
Hi, Thomas! Thanks a lot for noticing! You can find the entire concert in stereo on our WDR homepage: www1.wdr.de/mediathek/video/klangkoerper/funkhausorchester/video-manhattan-transfer--orchestra-100.html Best regards!
An excellent and polished performance by both the Orchestra and of course the MHT quartet. I don't like the sound mix of this recording though, the orchestra is too loud and covers the fine harmonies too often, leaving their voices sounding thin and spiky, which they certainly are not. A lovely experience it must have been for the audience present.
no body can stop old age...but watching them now they are a shadow of what they were....at their peak they were full of life and vitality.and were fabulous...but like many before they dont know when to call it a day....
Don’t really agree with you when listening to this performance. I think it’s beautiful and appropriate. I did see them in Chicago Ravina before the pandemic and was somewhat disappointed. They were fantastic for almost their entire career. They helped me learn the American Songbook. Thank you MT. You will be missed.
Unlike Trust Charles, Tim Hauser had a wider range and could sing very low (Bass). This circumstance spoils the impression and the overall _picture_ with the "updated composition".
THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED! THERE HAS TO BE LAWS PREVENTING SUCH GENIUS!! I am 68 , and have been listening to Manhattan Transfer since my late teens.. IT DOES NOT COME BETTER THAT THIS !!

Such joyful talent.
I'm so grateful we get to share this cross cultural treasure with the great German people

Vielen Dank!

Love this band.
Us too!

Thank you.
Lots of energy! Age? What age? Irrelevant. Thank you, Funkhausorchester for the link to the full concert.
You are welcome!
Nice to hear that you like it!
LIKE THIS FROM JAPAN.

You're welcome :)
OMG THANKU THIS IS GOLD!!!!
You're welcome!
Pure class
Thank you! 😊
prelijepo nice extra swing N1
Really glad they play Swing Balboa, my favo; for me this arrangement is better than the original, may be because of the brilliant bass player...
Em 2021.....good !!!
Muito muito jazz
Thank goodness the 2nd half wasn't drowned out by the orchestra. You could hardly hear what the MT were singing 1st half.
👏👏👏👏👏 🤩👍
Can someone tell me why the 2nd part of the concert suddenly is MONO and not STEREO??? 🤔
Hi, Thomas!
Thanks a lot for noticing! You can find the entire concert in stereo on our WDR homepage: www1.wdr.de/mediathek/video/klangkoerper/funkhausorchester/video-manhattan-transfer--orchestra-100.html
Best regards!
Louis Prima did a great cover of this essential Benny Goodman piece.
Louis Prima was the one who wrote and composed it first in the 1930s with his original band. Goodman's is the more famous cover version.
INIGUALÁVEIS
Obrigado. 😊

Why do they not sing Chanson d'amour???? It's the song that made them well known in the UK!
1:40
Favolosi...
Hopefully the live show was reduced in tempo. Seemed a little rushed.
Laurel Masse, Tim Hauser...
Unlike Trust Charles, Tim Hauser had a wider range and could sing very low (Bass). This circumstance spoils the impression and the overall _picture_ with the "updated composition".
Age really affected the original people's singing. The vocal blending is brutal. Oh please. Chanson no more!
no laurel masse and now no tim hauser thats not manhatten transfer
Im sorry but I can't stand this kind of music. Peace.
So why are you here?
THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED! THERE HAS TO BE LAWS PREVENTING SUCH GENIUS!!
I am 68 , and have been listening to Manhattan Transfer since my late teens.. IT DOES NOT COME BETTER THAT THIS !!
We're glad that you like it 😄
