I am tired of seeing all the reviews which have a common agenda in explanation, like this is the cargo space difference, this is how it feels like driving etc, etc. For potential buyers, here are things you need to know: 1. Mazda CX5 drives better than CR-V. Period!!. No contest. 2. CX5 has vibrational dampers in the suspension whereas CRV does not. This makes CX5 to rattle less than CRV. 3. The brake rotors are thinner in CX5 than CRV, so they would need replacement earlier. 4. CX5 naturally aspirated 2.5L engine has cylinder deactivation, which has an ongoing problem of cracked cylinder heads till 2021 models. CX5 turbo models have coolant leak issues due to valve seating problems which might have an affect on 2023 models as well. 5. CRV is still using the 1.5L turbo which has a severe oil dilution issue. Honda did nothing to fix the issue, nor will do anything to fix it. 5. CX5's back up camera is inferior in quality to that of CRV. 6. CX5's signature headlights are superior to that of the CRV. 7. Be aware that the cost of replacement of the CX5 signature headlight (1 piece) is $2500. 8. CX5 paints still chips. Please make sure to ceramic coat. 9. CX5 seats are comfortable than that of CRV. 10. CX5 offers less lumbar support than CRV. 11. In the CX5, when the air circulation button is set to "outside", there will be air coming in through the vents even if the fan is completely off. 12. CX5 has far less noisy cabin than CRV. 13. CX5 uses laminated glass for front windshield and front passengers (none of them are acoustic though). CRV uses tempered all around. 13. CX5 Bose audio system is inferior to CRV's Bose audio system, due to the latter having 2 extra speakers with high wattage amplifier. 14. CX5 depreciates faster than that of CRV due to brand image.
No cylinder deactivation in the 2024 naturally aspirated 2.5’s . It also now has acoustic glass in the front window and the driver and passenger windows.
My wife and I have owned 8 Mazdas since 2007. Sincec2016 I bought my first CX5 GT then another in 2020 and in june a got a 2023 CX 5 Signature in Rhodium white The size suits us well as a retired couple. Love the power of the Turbo also. The driving dynamics and quiet ride is great.
The Mazda CX-5 Signature does have heated rear seats. The buttons are hidden in the rear seat foldable center cup holder/armrest. A friend of mine bought one 6 months ago he never knew that he had heated rear seats I'm the one who told him
Absolutely agree with you on the engines. I always thought I would be with Honda for a long time, but the CX-5 has a much more responsive engine and transmission. Anyone narrowing their choices to these two should take a highway with a bit of an incline on a test drive. The difference is there. I prefer the exterior and interior of the Honda, but that is subjective. One exception: Mazda uses excellent leather on their seats.
That's interesting. Are you comparing the base engine of both - 1.5t vs 2.5s ? I have driven 2023 cx5 PP for few days and it's enough power for almost any situation. Does the Honda 1.5t give you the same confidence and feeling?

Mazda is true winner in this segment, It is premium, handle great, and no CVT. Interestingly can compete with upper segment. These days Hondas are over priced with less equipment, Today crv 2023 hybrid touring is 49k Cad(BMW X3 55K cad) and Mazda turbo signature is 46k Cad.Mazdas come with more feature for the same price tag or less. We have a CX 30 and ordering a CX5 GT. I had CRV 2017 for years, I can say driving dynamic on Honda is almost zero. Road noise is very bad the positive point is space and better visibility. My only complain about Mazda is trans. I feel at least it needs one more gear but overall way better than CVT. Sport mode really works. It is quite inside. I personally will never go back to CVT :). And one thing that is intresting is back seat design .they fold 40 20 40. This is something very handy and comes with upper segment as far as I saw in the reviews

I got way more for less: HUD, leather seats, all sorts of powered stuff, Bose sound system. CR-V saves more gasoline and is bigger. Mazda CX-5 looks better, and drive handling is better. Also a low maintenance transmission, while CR-V needs a tranny flush every 25k miles. The CX-5 is simply better looking, better value, and more fun to drive.

We bought the CX-5 because no CR-Vs were available. Plus the Select S trim CX-5 offers the same plus more than an EX CR-V for about $4,000 less here in the US.

I was sold on the CX-5 when I saw a video of a man taking a first gen, first year CX-5 with a 2.0 liter motor on the Nurburgring with damp track, and did a time of 9:22. An 8 cylinder, 400hp Ferrari Testarossa did a 9:14. Since then I've seen an Aussie rally car driver, and a Malaysian rally car driver put a 2017, and a 2022 turbo on a closed circuit, and a hill climb track respectively, and both were very impressed considering the car is a compact SUV and not really built for this. Someone took a CR-V on the ring, and it did 11:25, and the car was rolling like mad at every turn.
So except if they removed the heating seats in the back.. i have a 2020 cv5 and heating seats in the back is actually hidden .. you have to put down the arm resr and heating seat + usb port are there
Honestly I feel like Honda kind of ripped off Mazdas front end. CRV looks like a wanna be Mazda but it still looks pretty good. The refreshed Mazda looks good but I prefer the preferesh. I hear the new Honda interiors are as high quality as Mazda, so interior is alright too. But why not throw the Honda V6 from the pilot into the crv instead of some crappy cvt 4 cylinder, at least Mazda gives you an engine that doesn't sound like ass, more power too. Lighter vehicle Also.
I just traded in my 2020 CRV EX for a 2023 Cx-5 Preferred. I dislike the 2023 CRV redesign. It looks cheap in the interior. Honda has also made BSI optional. I couldn't find a CRV with BSI available at any dealer near me. Why would Honda remove a safety feature? The CRV is noisy. Honda has also overpriced itself. It would have cost me $5,000 more to get a similarly equipped CRV vs my new CX-5. I owned 3 Hondas. The 2020 CRV was my last.
Arguing about which car is better looking than another is pretty redundant. It's a personal opinion and we all look at things differently. I appreciate Sam's car reviews as he is pretty detailed across the board. Where I don't agree with some of the comparisons he made is understanding that car companies like Honda, Toyota and Nissan have premium brands...Acura, Lexus and Infinity. This puts limitations on how they design and equip their mainstream cars vs. their premium models. Mazda is not handcuffed so their "comparable" models are not restricted. What if Honda used the 270hp 2litre turbo from the RDX and chassis dynamics from that comparably sized machine, well the performance result would have been a lot different. They wouldn't want that competition within so the design criteria is very different between the mainstream and luxury brands. Mazda makes some great vehicles but it seems Honda appeals to a much bigger audience!!
CRV is overpriced in my opinion. Base model in CX 5 is more value for money. I don’t like cvt that much, coming from Subaru crosstrek, In this day and age with no discounts cX5 make more financial sense. It is much nicer also. Interior fit and finish is far better than CRV. 6!sped trans with 185 hp is perfect match and AWD is standard which $1500 more on CRV. For me cX5 is winner specially the base model.
all the new Honda are quite boring and mainstreamed if such a word exist - The Pilot is the only one that I found a good upgrade over the old version - Can't wait to see a drag race...On the other hand the Mazda, despite being a few years old remains interesting, good power, design inside and out...no cvt, can't go wrong
@@ericb.9907 i just bought a 23 EXL, i don't have problem on highway. In fact, i definitely saving more fuel than driving a CX-5. other than missing the 360 cam, i don't have any complain to the CRV as it just a point to point vehicle
Sit in and drive both. You may be surprised that one car will feel much better to you than the other. These are both very nice cars; yet the seating position is very different. One worked great for me while the other did not. The Mazda CX5 has stayed the same for years...this is a good thing...while the 2023 Honda CRV is very different from the 2022 CRV and, this is a good thing too.
I bought a 2023 CX-50, 6 months ago and the steering wheel was so heavy and the ride was bad (no suspension at all) that I felt so tired whenever I drove. So I disposed of the CX-50 and recently switched to the 2023 CR-V. I'm so happy with CR-V.
There's been reports of people saying the CX-50 ride is inferior to the CX-5. I own a 2023 CX-5 and the ride is extremely smooth and handles amazingly.
The only issues with CX5 really are the hard seats, paint chips and intermittent problems with the liftgate. Other than that its a super excellent car.
The Honda CRV is a vehicle appliance. Has no soul. Boring to drive. CX-5 is sporty, fun to drive and is superior to the CRV in every measure except for two: gas mileage and cargo/passenger room.
So in other words, instead of the things that matter most to most consumers of small wagons ,(cargo space, passenger space, and efficiency), the Mazda is the best. Those are some pretty big excepts in a class where practicality is king.
What bothered me the most is the HP. 1.5L?! It's the sole reason stopped me from getting it. I can put up with other things but 4 cylinders 1.5L engine is a no go. It might feel ok when new but after 50k miles it'll struggle
Honda lost their way since the death of the original genius that created it. They build cheap crappy autos and ask for astronomical prices. In the 90's all the family would buy was Honda. Now family and close friends are buying Mazda. Honda going down just like Nissan pushing unreliable CVT
Touchscreen if not moving , if you pair your phone to bluetooth scroll to connectivity , scroll to' touch screen active in motion ' ...you guys on the channel should know this.
Doesn't feel like anything was resolved. Each vehicle shines in one area over its competitor, only to lose in another category just as spectacularly. You basically have to decide which features are more important to you. Acceleration? Road/tire noise? Cargo space? Fuel economy? Back seat passenger comfort?
Biggest issue i have with this review is your comparing a $45,000 mazda to a $35,000 honda. Like maybe the more expensive one is nicer...duh. compare that mazda to a Hyundai sante fe 2.5T in a similar price point which is bigger and faster. Just because both a compact SUVs doesn't mean comparing apples and oranges for taste make any sense.
You can not only go by looks. KIA looks good but I would not purchase. Honda has Metallic grey a very nice colour. The CR-V is the same as the civic. The civic is actually longer just not as high and wide. The Honda has good pick-up. Purchasing comes to availability.
I hate cx5 just because they use blind spot monitor radar signals just close to police band and my radar detectors goes bonkers when any cx5 comes into 1 mile radius
I don't think you checked very well before complaining about the Mazda in this comparison. There ARE heated rear seats in the CX-5. AND...the rear is a 40-20-40 split with all 3 sections able to fold down individually. A noted correction would help your character and trustworthiness for future reviews and comparisons.
As someone who currently drives a Mazda 3 2015 for Uber, I plan on getting the CR-V Hybrid because of the extra storage room in the back and better mpg. But I won’t be driving the CR-V for Uber until after a couple of years or more of ownership.
Did you look in the fold down armrest in the Cx 5. The buttons for heated seats are there not where you were looking. The Cx5 has always had them in the arm rest.
The Mazda has almost ten fewer cubic feet of cargo space and a smaller second row with a hump versus a flat floor. Thats why it seems so poorly compared to the Rav4 and the CRV. Honda and Toyota realize that practicality is what drives sales in this segment.
Sorry buddy the Mazda does have rear heated seats in that trim you’re sitting in. Put the middle armrest down and you’ll see the heated seats are there
If u r a family person and u have kids go with crv or rav4 because u need that space, if u r couple without kids go for cx5; if u r before marry go with other options like used c43;After I test drive mach-e I think everyone who work commute everyday should get an mach e
Two errors in this comparison. The mazda has 40-20-40 folding for the rear seats. And for the signature, there is heated seats in the rear. The switches are behind the center arm rests
If anyone is going to review a car they should know everything about the car and not just guess or wing it. The CX5 has more features including heaters in rear seats, 2 high speed USB charges in the rear and as mentioned 3 way folding rear seats. How can anyone take this review seriously??
The CX-5 is beautiful. But that beauty comes at the cost of practicality. The CRV is only slightly larger on the outside, but can carry so much more on the inside. I test drove the CX-5. Felt almost claustrophobic. The CX-5 look great, handles great. But this is supposed to be a family vehicle. Its first function is to carry me and my family and our stuff, and in that it falls short.

The Mazda is not 60/40 rear seats, it’s actually 40/20/40. Each rear seat can be folded individually
North american hondas are no longer made in japan. Hard pass.
CX5 has heated seats in the back. Open the rear center console. Not the best location to put the buttons, but nonetheless, it has it.
I ended getting 2023 CX5....it's alright. 25 MPG is same as my old 2001 CRV. I can't believe I don't have a digital speedometer
I think the crv hybrid is best in class, but if I were absolutely getting an ICE car I’d go Mazda for sure.
Huh? Driving a SUV for drag race? You should get a Urus not crv or cx5
@@azzdesigner It would be a good indicator of how much faster is the cx5 - everyone needs power to pass on the Highway or to get out of a situation.
@@ericb.9907 i just bought a 23 EXL, i don't have problem on highway. In fact, i definitely saving more fuel than driving a CX-5. other than missing the 360 cam, i don't have any complain to the CRV as it just a point to point vehicle
The CX-5 gets my money.
When in doubt.....just get the Mazda ❤
I bought a 2023 CX-50, 6 months ago and the steering wheel was so heavy and the ride was bad (no suspension at all) that I felt so tired whenever I drove. So I disposed of the CX-50 and recently switched to the 2023 CR-V. I'm so happy with CR-V.
That is utter BS.
My 2019 CX5 signature has heated rear seats and usb both are in the armrest and 20 40 40 folding seats 🤔great review!!!!
I am just confirming
The Honda CRV is a vehicle appliance. Has no soul. Boring to drive. CX-5 is sporty, fun to drive and is superior to the CRV in every measure except for two: gas mileage and cargo/passenger room.
So in other words, instead of the things that matter most to most consumers of small wagons ,(cargo space, passenger space, and efficiency), the Mazda is the best. Those are some pretty big excepts in a class where practicality is king.
Cx-5 is cramped in the back compare to CR-V
What bothered me the most is the HP. 1.5L?! It's the sole reason stopped me from getting it. I can put up with other things but 4 cylinders 1.5L engine is a no go. It might feel ok when new but after 50k miles it'll struggle
Get a turbo
I wish the Scion xBs were still in production and had a turbo or Awd system they would really scoot
Honda lost their way since the death of the original genius that created it. They build cheap crappy autos and ask for astronomical prices. In the 90's all the family would buy was Honda. Now family and close friends are buying Mazda. Honda going down just like Nissan pushing unreliable CVT
Honda's CVT is much more reliable than that garbage Jatco CVT from Nissan.
Bro’ CX-5 does came with Heater rear seat. And Also the middle can fold down too by itself
Love my cx5 BUT need more cargo space for our family trips. That’s why I’m considering the crv.
With my size and height I feel claustrophobic in the CX5. Give me the CRV any day for comfort and space. The CX5 is puny
Funny cause I'm 6 ' 5 and it feel likes a glove in the cx5 , the honda just feel outdated and less features
Mazda wins this no contest.
For the CX-5, heated rear seats bottoms are located on the armrest 😂😂😂
Mindbuildingsolutions approved!
Excellent video and content.
New CRV has more space ..
But I would anyday prefer Mazda ...it is also the safest SUV too ... Better dynamics, buoy and handling
From the side, the Honda looks like it was designed by VW.
As a 2015 cx5 owner I will take the cx5 any day any time,,
CRV for practically and CX5 for drivers
Did you look in the fold down armrest in the Cx 5. The buttons for heated seats are there not where you were looking. The Cx5 has always had them in the arm rest.
Since everyone is saying that cc-5 has heated rear seat, I will repeat it too 😂
The Mazda has almost ten fewer cubic feet of cargo space and a smaller second row with a hump versus a flat floor. Thats why it seems so poorly compared to the Rav4 and the CRV. Honda and Toyota realize that practicality is what drives sales in this segment.
Sorry buddy the Mazda does have rear heated seats in that trim you’re sitting in. Put the middle armrest down and you’ll see the heated seats are there
Mazda cx5 can’t beat that
If u r a family person and u have kids go with crv or rav4 because u need that space, if u r couple without kids go for cx5; if u r before marry go with other options like used c43;After I test drive mach-e I think everyone who work commute everyday should get an mach e
mazda cx5 offer 2.0 midrange 2.0 high 2.2 diesel turbo 2.5 NA and 2.5 turbo..what offer at malaysia market
Mazda every day. Because I don’t want a CVT and sub-par powertrain/numb handling.
Two errors in this comparison. The mazda has 40-20-40 folding for the rear seats. And for the signature, there is heated seats in the rear. The switches are behind the center arm rests
HONDA CRV STILL BE THE BEST
Honda crv capacity and cargo space beat the Mazda all the time 😂
360 camera is not the base for every car, and it's not cheap either......... Vehicles with L2 driving assistance or above should have 360.
Mazda i love it...My dream is to buy it one day
Seems like the Mazda with the Turbo is a better match against the Acura RDX.
Honda made a mistake with 1.5L oil diluting engine coupled with a rubber band transmission.
If anyone is going to review a car they should know everything about the car and not just guess or wing it. The CX5 has more features including heaters in rear seats, 2 high speed USB charges in the rear and as mentioned 3 way folding rear seats. How can anyone take this review seriously??
CX5 is changing in few months....so buying it means lossing money. End of topic.
are you sure about that?
I’m sorry but Honda is making junk these days from bad body panel gaps to small 1.5 turbos and cvt transmission I will take the Mazda.
Yes you are right
You forgot the mark-ups, almost every Honda has it
If Mazda is better because it is built in Japan, does it make the Mitsubishi Outlander as good as the Mazda , Lexus, Infiniti and Acura ?
I bought a 2023 mazda cx5 preferred i love it trded in my mazda3 i had for 10 years
Mazda CX-5 all the way!! Honda's have always looked and felt very cheaply made.
CX-5 hands down!
Mazda cx5
Simply no to cvt
If signature doesn’t have heated seat in the back why premium plus has it
Who cares about panoramic roofs? All you see out of it is the sky.
@Sam CarLegion
Was checking 2023 crv touring hybrid cost 51k where u find it 48k ?
Toronto ?
Use hondas website
@@SamCarLegion $51,021 for touring hybrid....just checked official website which other suv you think comparable n gives more enjoyable driving experience 50k bracket little used even works for me need your opinion
The heated seat in the back of the CX5 are in the armrest
both are good Japanese SUV´s 👍
Except one is made in Japan only and it’s not the crv.
Mazda CX 5 ❤
When money will come to me then I will definitely purchase the cx5 Mazda this car is one of my favourite cars only just a headlight resemblance. To lion's eyes its ok inside the Mazda little small space but I like a lot
Thé USB port of the Mazda is in the arm rest in the middle, like the heat controls
I have 2017 Honda CRV 1.5 turbo 4 cylinder engine and I like the facelift and I think the new 2023 Honda CRV facelift looks spot on than the CX5
I just traded in my 2020 CRV for the 2023 Cx-5. I despise the new CRV design. It looks outdated and the interior cheap in comparison. Honda is resting on its reputation. They've become boring and over priced. I had 3 Hondas. I've moved on.
@@mirianaivanovic109 tell me why you traded in your 2020 CRV for the CX5. I like the new CRV design. I’ll never trade in my 2017 Honda turbocharged CRV. The CX5 design looks okay
Honda design is like a 1998 outlander. So boring . The Mazda has been out years yet looks way better and more premium inside too.
