I owe Richard butler and psychedelic furs, the album, talk, talk, talk, for a vivid memory of life changing moment as a teenager punk ,the music, the songs the voice, lit a spark inside my head as a novice song writer and terribly untrained singer, the music, songs changed me there was a maturity that I had never heard before, combined with the last hours of my teenage years I became a young adult.that memory after 35 years is still as clear as if it was yesterday. 1987 State theater in Detroit..The Furs and The Church. Backstage before and after show. NEVER EVER EVER forget that night. I went home and literally broke down and cried of being there. It was magical beyond belief.
This is a fantastic album that somehow never got it's due. Butler's voice is almost unrecognizable, yet angelic. The guitar work is beautiful as well. Masterpiece.
@@francisbroka9471 The guy who plays all the instruments on this, he did a song called "State of the Nation" with a band called Industry back in the 80s that I really like- very new wave. Think he now tours with Pink Floyd.
@@lovedicedtomatoes9653 Yes, you're right, Jon Carin toured with Pink Floyd, but a very long time ago. For many years, the band ceased all activity forever.
I've been a Psychedelic Furs fan since the 80s, then Love Spit Love, but somehow never knew this Richard Butler solo album existed till the past couple of years. I tracked down a CD on Discogs and finally own it. This song, this whole album...he's a genius. One of my favorite singers ever.
I've been listening to The Psychedelic Furs since the early 80's, incredible band, in the studio and live. I have to say, this is one of Richard's most impressive and moving vocals/lyrics, it's on repeat now, just beautiful, it transcends, it transcends.........
Watched Richard one night in Portland, OR at Dante's with my best friend Anna, what an incredible show! Up close, what a personal experience. I will never forget it! Best night I can remember. Thank You Anna!
Mr. Butler, what I like about you is, you are graceful and tasteful. You don't try to say too much in any one song. Paradoxically, because of that you say so much. I appreciate your contribution to the world immensely.
Thank you Richard for this wonderful album, honestly. For your father and mine ( gone so long ago,) this album is for them all. As an example of ' under the radar ' I found this CD at my local library, took it home and it became my friend. And as they are friends, there are those who if lucky find a true friend. Peace
Don't misunderstand, I know artists influence one another, obviously, old and young and in between. And I LOVE Coldplay, but the Psychedelic Furs started their band back in the heady days of '77, the year Chris Martin was born.
thanks Alejandro, would gladly have paid up to $50 for this, it can't be bought online or on cd except as a rarity, from $100+, so your post is hugely appreciated !!!
always loved the psychedelic furs and recently got around to listening to this album as i thought richard butler's best days might be behind him- what a shock- the album is brilliant, probably better than any furs record which is saying something
They are the best band nobody has heard of. Totally agree with Shankar. But do appreciate Valentine's Day by Bowie. A duet would be just fine - Christopher Walken could do some creepy dance...
Well. This is quite beautiful even if the instruments sound like they're straight out of GarageBand. I've always like Richard Butler's voice, but I've never heard him use it like this
I would undo everything. I know it's common to say, but seiously i messed up big. And so it's axiomatic. No big. Everything rights itself in the end 🎉🥀🎼
I love the 'Furs but while this is 'lovely', he's lost his mojo. He's not an aggressive young man any more.....he's writing 'reflective' songs now and while they are beautiful songs, they are not songs which are aimed at changing the world (with guitar and drums.......and a baseball bat!!)
Hi Derek. He sounds good because they are playing 'Furs music. :) ......and I would definitely go if they came to Oz, which is unfortunately unlikely now. :( ......but you never know! Simple Minds and Devo toured Australia together a few years back on a 'winery' tour! :))
@@deborahpaley21 No I haven't but in my defense, I made that comment 5 years ago about Butler songs, not the Furs......but I will check it out. Thanks. Post edit: Sounds great, just bought the LP!

The most underrated album of all time
Vote for Psychedelic Furs or Richard Butler for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they deserve it and long over due!
I still can't believe they aren't in the Rock Hall!
Thank you Richard for not letting me go to sleep
After my parents divorced I use to go for lonely drives in the evenings and listened to this song trying to escape the chaos....sometimes I still do.
Its impossible to escape the chaos ,so you just have to learn how go around it [not thru it].

Sad, yeah. But so heart-achingly beautiful. I love Richard Butler, one of the most unappreciated artists ever.

It’s weird he would write the most important songs later in his career
