      A city that size and the promotion they did to build this game in a new stadium. Its not that shocking. Half the tenants will never go again or probably don't even understand the sport. More of a being a part of history thing. Chances are this wont happen again, similar to Orlando's "Fill the bowl" when they played in the Citrus bowl.

      I've lived in Georgia 22 years and grew up playing soccer. Almost everyone here loves soccer and understands the league and actually play the game there selves. Soccer is huge here. A MLS player by the name of POKO used to play in the adult indoor league I play at and have played against him before. Now look he is in the MLS and a starting player.

    The US will be a football country in 10 years, 20 max, simply because the kids like it, and you don't have to be 6'6" to play it or 250 pounds to be good at it, if you're short and skinny you can play it and be a star.

      From here on out there are two ways to do it. The build a team retirement league style with vital but older stars orrrr the Atlanta way. Big money spent on a coach who wants to meaningfully build something and where the vital older stars are MLS stalwarts and the DPs are young dudes trying to make a name for themselves. Everybody's spending big money it's just how you spend it.

    The part they left out was how HUUUUGE youth soccer is and has been in the Atlanta area (and the Southeast really). 4 or 5 Men's and Women's ECNL teams 4 or 5 US Dev Academy Teams (men's and women's) scads and scads of RPL teams. This area is made out of a really young base that grew up playing and now their kids are now growing up playing in a town with an MLS franchise AND that youth academy and many academies in town are littered with REAL DEAL national team hopefuls.

      @ronharris8669 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Calen Carr I understand what the program is set up for but the question is how to get some of the top athletes to play. Go into homes of the best 10-14 year old athletes in that area with the talk of being signed if they can develop first touch,dribbling and passing. I'm sure the strength and pace are there go steal the kids from other sports.

    • @TeemATL
      @TeemATL 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They pretty much sucked up the top end talent in town. I hope all this hype reaches into those areas your talking about and helps lead a trend in the US. Every MLS team is depending on that.

    • @calencarr.fieldnotes
      @calencarr.fieldnotes 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I think it needs to start earlier. 10-14 yrs old is too late for players to develop into professionals. Get kids playing at 4,5,6 years old and let them enjoy the game and have it become of a part of their lives/routine. That's what is special to me about MARTA and the point made in the video, soccer is becoming a part of urban life vs. something you have to leave your community to take part in.

      ATL are a welcome addition to the league with a great front office, team, and fanbase. But Seattle has at least one of every domestic title: an MLS Cup, a Shield, and 4 Open Cups since 2009. We've made the playoffs every year, and are neck and neck with LA on profitability. So ATL has a lot of work to do before they can claim "Best Expansion".

    I'm a Seattle Sounders fan, but I like living in the South, because now, I can talk to people, at the mall or at the grocery store, about MLS. I was at a baseball game last year, and I was talking to a guy about Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders after the baseball game. When I went to the Augusta Mall the other day, there was a man, and a woman there, wearing Atlanta United clothing. When I go in the neighbourhood by St. Mary on the Hill Church in Augusta, I see Atlanta United Flags outside of people's houses. They took off really well. I would love to see America become a soccer country, and we're getting closer every year, and I'll tell you what, it's a lot more of a reality now, than it was when I was growing up.

Most people don't believe it, but Arthur Blank and his son (who plays soccer) were there, waiting outside for a table. What kind of stuff happens in Atlanta, Georgia?
    it's pretty cool that MLS brings attention the culture and lifestyle of other states in the US. Even though I'm from Boston, MA I like that MLS is like an international relations program, or it's like a program that connects other states together.

    I heard that Atlanta had the most hugest fans all over the universe now. Eventually i saw it, is crazy. I never seen a club that is supported by whole state. That is Atlanta united.

    • @willp.8120
      @willp.8120 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not supported by the whole state. It's popularity is primarily by white, intown liberals who are extreme fans and go to game after game. Hardly anyone outside of the metro area even cares about them.

    I remember when the MLS was created, just right after the 1994 World Cup. Most sports commentators mocked it and said it would die in less than 5 years. Look at it now! I think it will continue growing...and one day rival the biggest European league.

      It's not a league water break, if you know soccer/football there's a mandatory water break for any game thats played above 89.6 degrees F (32 degrees C). It's FIFA rule, not an MLS one...

    In the early days of MLS they were marketing to the kids & soccer moms (the dipn dots crowd) and building stadiums in the suburbs, but that was a bad move. Take the Colorado Rapids as an example. The supporters groups have to take charter busses from their downtown soccer bars out to the edge of Denver for games, and there are literally no amenities around the stadium. Fast forward a decade and the teams with big support are all downtown and are going for a younger more energetic demographic. I think the league should force the older teams to move their stadiums to a more central location or revoke their franchise and give it to someone who will follow the Portland/Orlando/Atlanta model.

    • @daffaramadaghifari6428
      @daffaramadaghifari6428 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some of the mls club stuck on their stadium contract like chicago fire,they can't move to better suitable area in the city because they stuck on a contract with bridgeview stadium for 30 years,so for a teams that already built their stadium in the suburbs they can't move or build antohrr stadium becauss they stuck on a contract.

    Atlanta will become the first city where the mls team is the most popular team (like how you think New York you think Yankees or you think LA you think Lakers) you think Atlanta people will think Atlanta United.

    I'm happy for Atlanta and I respect what they're doing, but it makes me mad to see my team, San Jose, is constantly disrespected by the front office year after year. I can see what's happening in places like Atl and Cinci, I just wish my team had that same support and care from the owners. I may be across the country but I'm going to be rooting for Atl, unless they're playing SJ.

    • @diezgp
      @diezgp 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's the other way around. You are finally getting a grip on why people love football so much. Here in Argentina and many countries people would go to the matches religiously for decades even if their team wins absolutely nothing. Why? Because of that atmosphere, passion you talk about. Atlanta is the first club, in my view, that has that Latin/British/Italian vibe.
