I'm pretty sure that was me that asked about the volume pedal pre distortions. After you told me on Instagram, I thought about controlling gain with a volume pedal and really liked the idea and switched my board up. I really enjoyed this video a lot and gave me more brilliant ideas. Thank you and the rest of the crew for everything you guys have done.

Thats awesome I also try to take the same approach in trying to get my guitar to sound completely different than a guitar.i have a basic setup to cover normal guitar duties but my other pedals are all pretty crazy stuff to the point where I'm getting option paralysis and can never settle on one setup plus I'm always buying more pedals to find that perfect sound.its tough when not everything likes to work well with others so there's so much compromise

You’re the man Erin. Love you guys and the music. Any advice for a good “post rock” amp that takes pedals well at home volumes? Would love to get a twin but it’s just way too much power for me.
I personally use a Line6 HX Stomp for home playing and recording (not just Post-Rock). Get some IRs like Ownhammer and you are set. The Stomp also works well with real pedals.
he should check out the Iron Ether Dubterranea, Xerograph, Dubterrograph or FMeron. I sound like a salesman, but they are all synth-type pedals.
thanks for the video, Erin. This is really fun to learn. I've always loved buzz sawing on my guitar. Which combination of delays do you usually like to use to get the best shred? I have two delays but I'm always looking for more ways to combine them when buzz sawing
I think the thing I've learned about buzzsaw and delays is that there's no perfect combo, there's just all kinds of variations. That being said, a great way to work it is to have one delay with shorter feedback (whatever delay the song and non-buzzsaw parts calls for) and then a second delay set to a different tempo with a much longer feedback and a higher mix setting. This way you can have a delay that works with the song and non-buzzsaw parts but when you go to a buzzsaw line, engage the second delay and suddenly your melody is really floating. Disengage the delay and you're back to whatever other vibe you were previously eliciting.
Great video man, and I appreciate how involved you are in the comments. One quick question: What sort of loops do you find yourself making? Since you're one of three guitarists, do you do more atmospheric stuff, or do you loop to thicken up the sound, maybe so you can keep a riff going and play lines on top?
Thanks so much! Most of my looping is more of an ambient/texture kind of thing but it really just depends on the song and my parts. It can be tough to get a loop to stay in time but there are ways. But I guess to really answer your question, most of the time it is augmenting what I am doing rather than laying down a foundation.

How often do you use loops while you are playing live? Just curious because I have never found it to be terribly practical myself.
Fairly often. There are tricks to keeping them in time and then some loops I make are just meant to be out of time (these would qualify as ambient loops). Volume has a great deal to do with how effective a loop will be and also length. The longer a loop is, the longer it will take to be out of time.
eburkemoran Alright cool, thanks for responding. Yeah the keeping them in time part is the biggest issue I find. I'll take these into consideration though. Also can't wait to see you guys next, I think in November I'm going. You guys are awesome.
if you have a looper with a trigger setting, you can retriever the loop on the downbeat. This isn't always ideal but it's certainly one way to troubleshoot. Hope you make it out to the show!

okaxis I use various combinations of all three delay pedals. Allows for a very diverse selection of tones.
eburkemoran Thank you for the reply. Your pedalboard is very inspiring, having three delay pedals for different combinations and the Mobius which can both be recorded into the looper or manipulate a loop phrase.

What made you choose the infinity over the ditto X4? I'm currently looking for a new looper to get rid of my DL4 for more space on the board and I'm torn between the X4 and infinity.
You know, I didn't know about the X4 at the time. It hadn't come out when I picked up the Infinity. We're actually sponsored by Pigtronix and I am really into their gear. Phil uses one of the X4 and he loves it. Each certainly has it's own quirks and advantages. I'd certainly recommend the Infinity as I love it. I think it really depends on what you are looking to get out of your looper. Is there anything specific you are looking to get out of it? The Infinity does everything the Line6 did and more . Some of the functions are a little deeper to get to than they were on the Line6 but they are all there.
I use half speed/reverse a lot with DL4. From this video and your personal recommendation I think I'll be getting the infinity. Can't wait to see you guys Friday at Mississippi!
