@@2bigbufords ; Go Play In Heavy Traffic. Lou Holtz has always struck me as an Outstanding Man; who's been nothing but a positive influence to ANYONE he comes into contact with.
Lou Holtz is a treasure. He is the essence of Notre Dame. A man of faith and strong convictions. One year ago, "You don't go to Notre Dame (to coach) for the money, you don't leave Notre Dame for the money."☘️☘️ (School Sisters of Notre Dame?)
LOU is an inspiración. Born poor, with no physical attributes, with a lisp, in a poor family, but his determinación couldn't be extingiushed. Such a great attitude. I think his best quote was " life is 10% what happens to you and 90 % how you react to it. He reacted well. Im religious, but I don't preach it, I hope my life reflects it ! Well said! So glad Coach Lou Holtz come to N.D. he brought them back to being a powerhouse , l started watching them when Ara Parseghian was coach & as a born Hoosier its good times when N.D. football is strong .
Truly this gentleman is an icon..They once asked his wife, what does it take to be the wife of a major college football coach? A good real estate agent
As a ND grad I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to football - I was at ND when Ara came in - with the same talent we went from 2-7 to 9-1 and in 1966 we won the national championship. When Coach Holtz came in it was like that we had Ara again only this time even better. In my opinion Coach Holtz is a best coach that ND ever had - PERIOD!
What a character...in more ways than one! He exudes excellence and is definelty one of a kind! Thanks, Lou, for all that you have done in bringing integrity and winning the right way to the forefront!
Love Lou! I’ll always be able to say I was a senior at Notre Dame when they won a National Championship in great part due to that man. No excuses; do your best; play your butt off for your brothers.
I have his book with John Heisler, “The Fighting Spirit: A Championship Season at Notre Dame”. And Coach Lou was so gracious in signing the inside cover. I love this man. 🙏 💚 💛 💙 💪☘️☘️☘️
That's a phenomenal book. Funny story -- I worked with a guy who played under Holtz at ND and somehow he had never read the book nor had a copy of it. So me, a Michigan alum and lifelong lover of Michigan football told this former player how good the book was and let him read it. On the day I was transferring to NYC (from Chicago) I said goodbye to him and asked for my book back.
This might be true, but within the opportunity the University of Arkansas gave him to showcase his coaching talent, he would never have gotten the job at Notre Dame.
Best coach ND ever had, bar none. Holtz got on my radar with the bowl win over Oklahoma. Before this clip even mentioned the names I remembered Calcagni, and Sales. Didn't realize Arkansas let him go, though. I thought Holtz left them for Minnesota. But I remember him turning Minnesota around (by Minnesota standards anyway). If I remember right, I think Tony Dungy was his QB. Anyway, I was telling all my fellow ND fans to watch this guy 'cuz he's the real deal. ND was coming off a down period under Gerry Faust. After the one point loss to Michigan at home the ND fans gave the team and Holtz a standing ovation, which is something for ND fans. General protocol is lose a game or don't win by enough and ND fans want to bench the QB, fire the HC and hang the leprechuan. I just knew he was gonna be great.
He has said, "We won one national championship and really should have won three." Many say that had he landed Randy Moss, he would have won another championship.
In the spirit of Lou Holtz's humor ......I had a full ride scholarship to play for Coach Holtz at Notre Dame starting in Fall of '84. Turns out I was too slow, too small and Lou Holtz had no idea as to who I was other than that I would have been a starter.......God Speed Coach

I’m a Razorback fan and I loved Lou. I heard that the reason Frank Broyles let him go was because he was doing campaign commercials for Jesse Helms in North Carolina and Broyles had told him not to.
As a WVU fan, and more importantly a realistic fan that knows ND was better too to bottom, I would LOVE to have seen that game with a Major Harris that wasn’t hurt. ND most likely still wins, but man what a game it would’ve been
Please tell Lou Holtz there are 13 musical notes, not 7. Seriously, though, this is good stuff. But even Holtz gets his facts wrong: He sujspended three players team before the Orange Bowl blaming their breaking his "Do Right Rule," but the woman who made assault allegations was found in court to have fabricated her charges. Holtz was judge and jury before it was adjudicated. He also says the last time Arkansas played OU they'd lost 108-0 and that was untrue; that was 1918 as WWI was still going on and the very next year Arkansas beat OU 7-6, and OU left the SWC right after that. But his talent at motivating and designing offenses was unmatched at the time. His story about how he convinced the remaining players how they could win that Orange Bowl is fantastic.

Alabama and Bear Bryant beat Holtz’s Arkansas team in the sugar bowl pretty bad one year and during the postgame midfield coaches handshake Bryant told Holtz that’s the best our team has played in 5 years. To which Holtz responded well I’m happy I was here to see it. Lol! Also he talked of being beaten barely by Earl Campbell and Texas to which he was very upset with his players not doing a good job tackling Campbell. Then the next year Holtz witnessed Campbell playing in the NFL on sundays and decided to tell all his defensive players that were still on the team from the previous year that they’d done a great job tackling Earl Campbell! LMAO
A small irony, regarding his "do the right thing" rule, per the book "Under the Tarnished Dome" he hired the strength & conditioning coach that had been a focal point of an investigation to NCAA violations for steroid use while at the University of Nebraska. Believe this was when he was either at Arkansas or staffing up for his start at Notre Dame.
Never have been a huge Gophers fan, but as a native Minnesotan, his revolving door stint here still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Always wondered if he would have brought that program back to relevancy had the ND job never opened up.

I was hoping they would talk about 93 season. Beat #1 Florida State then lose a heartbreaker to Boston College and with that the national championship the following week. I was at the B.C game
They came out too flat and woke up and actually came back.. questionable call against them helped BC come back to win.. Pete Bercich also dropped sure interception as well.
