My story is almost the same except my country was the UK, I got my goals a bit more earlier and now already retired from the job last year at the age of 40. Started my part time IT business few years back, which is working better for me and now running it full time from Pakistan.

Working culture & conditions are good in German I.T sector but most of companies require 3 month minimum notice period before leaving job, which is terrible... in addition people are working on same position since last couple of years, which is really bad for personal development...
Last pay 40% of salary in taxes..
