Another super video! You really play fantastic, and I always enjoy watching and listening to your drumming. I have loved this song since I heard it in 1972 for the first time. Today, watching you play it, I realized there are only two cymbal hits in the song! I never noticed until today😊 Thank you again! Great work👍
Thanks for watching! I never noticed the lack of crashes until I started studying, but I realized that it is a big factor that makes Danny's part in this song so great.
the groove is great here, good job! It's hard tho to emulate Danny's fills and I notice he had that Motown feel and would often start a fill with the high tom.
Great job Tate! Definitely one of my all time favorite Chicago tunes, and Danny’s drumming on the tune is superb. I appreciate the detail you put into learning and playing the tune. Thank you! Bob
Tate awesome drumming and very appropriate for today 🇺🇸🇺🇸🎉! Danny would be proud! It looks like you are buying vintage drums. Is that an old Ludwig kit from 60s in marine Pearl! Also that white Slingerland kit with the 6,8, 10, 12 Concert Toms and 8x12 and 9x13 rack toms! Do you have the kick drum and FT too! Very cool!
I was wondering if anyone would notice the kits in the background. Yes! The Ludwig kit is a mid 60s silver sparkle, 20” kick, and 12”, 13”, 14”, and 16” Toms. The Slingerland is from the late 70s-early 80s. In addition to those Toms I do have a 16” floor Tom and a 22” kick for that kit! Lots of work to get them in working order, but sooner or later they’ll be appearing in videos!
Tate - superb job on this! Really made me appreciate the many intricate and creative elements/fills in this song which you nailed so perfectly! Excellent job! Really enjoyed it! Andy
Hey Tate, great cover as always. I’d love to know a bit about your reasoning for cymbal choice. I’m a Paiste guy (not least for the fact that Jeff used them), but you make those Zildjians just sing. Have you always just used Zildjians, or has something else led you to that? All the best man 👍
Douglas, I’ve pretty much always been into Zildjians. Steve Gadd has always been my #1, and so Zildjians have always been my #1. The K cymbals are so versatile. I use my 19” and 17” crashes on almost every gig.
@@tate_berkey Yeah the Ks really are something else, any drummer who is anyone seems to have used Zildjians at some point in their career 😂 I’m thinking about getting the Paiste signature full crash 18” quite soon to go along with my 2002 crash 19”, something about Paiste just really does it for me.
Happy 4th of July, Tate. Once again, a nice job. Just saw Leonid & Friends last week and they did this song. I never realized that Danny hardly hits any crash cymbals. Thanks for pointing that out!
That's the amount of times that a crash is hit in the original, which IMO was a brilliant choice from Danny Seraphine. Too many crashes can lead to a distraction from the vocals and in the case of this song, the vocal is very prominent and involved so Danny chooses to stray away from crashing at the top every section. Instead, he only crashes at the highest of points to really accent those moments.
Love them Ludwig drums in Light blue pearl
Perfect timing!
Great job of covering this Chicago classic!!
Thank you!
Very nice as always young man. Hope all is well, I look forward to your releases :)

This Cat could replace their current drummer. Even the grip is spot on!
Danny would be proud
Oh boy! I happen to know Wally and he's the real deal. Super great guy and player.
Sweet playing, perfect pocket!

This song and of course the epic group, needs special attention to the feel and touch in drumming. The breaks are 80% correct
Wow, I love this song and your cover is amazing!
Thanks!
Awesome Tate !
Thanks Billy!

Thanks Gil! Leonid and Friends do a great job!
Great Mr. Tate 💣
Thanks!
What do you think about playing with the "inverted grip" for the left hand?
By “inverted” do you mean “traditional grip”?
Yes, maybe that is the correct term. @@tate_berkey
Well played but what's wrong with the crashes? I believe only two times in the whole song a crash was hit.
