Totally agree Steve, there is a certain snob value in tennis, with some players at clubs looking down at (or making it obvious they do not want to play with) those with lesser ability. I am at a very friendly club but you do tend to get stereotyped as a player early, so that if you make solid gains in your game, you are still not taken seriously. And you get boxed in. Keep up these great videos, I really like your attitude.

Good luck with your wife and baby. Thanks for this diagnosis. I still love the sport, but everything you say is true here in the states as well. Maybe more so.

I agree with you about Tennis. The problem you have with the sport is that if you watch pros play and compare that to a typical rec player, there is huge difference. The sport is very hard. And it takes a lot of commitment to be a decent player. Pickleball is a sport that is really driven by older players, a lot of tennis players who can't run anymore. I really don't see many young ppl playing Pickleball. Young ppl want a more demanding sport. They don't want to stay stationary and wait for the ball come to them. So I think Tennis will never be threatened by Pickleball. It's not a good spectators sport, you will never commercialize into a TV product that millions will watch. It's just an activity that caters to old folks, like Mahjong or bridge or slots. My tennis club at work wants to convert to Pickleball since all of the senior members can't run anymore and they are the only ones that want to lead the club. However, when this older generation dies away, what will happen? Who knows. Is Pickleball just a fad? Unfortunately for me, I will have to find another club. That's life.

Actually, you didn't go far enough. Pickleball doesn't even need the clubs! All the young people in the States are playing Pickleball on public courts. Tennis has always been exclusive to a certain class of people; Pickleball upends all that. Tennis has nothing to blame but itself for for refusing to give a damn about low income folks.

I thought Tennis too has been played on public courts in US? Isn't that the main difference with Europe?

Pickleball is in its infancy in alot of places but make no mistake, ive already heard one club here (aus) say they will do pickleball but won't take on 'beginners' as don't want to teach the rules ect.. That defeats the whole object of growing a sport as in pickleball terms and if there is a need for labels, lots are beginners playing for the first time. Tennis players brush pickleball off as a sport for old people or just a fad. It's not and it's huge in America being the fastest growing sport year on year with people like Jack sock competeing . Indian wells tennis garden also has pickleball stadiums and held the nationals Apart from using a paddle and a ball there are so many different rules and strategies that make pickleball a stand alone sport. As for tennis I do see as soon as you try to get involved at a club you see there are cliques, you see that people are pointed towards lessons ect and only ceratin socials for their 'standard' but trust me having grown pickleball here I can already see it going the same way. Cliques form and people get snobby about who they play sets with! Tennis like anything is to be held accountable for itself. In life of course it's easier to blame something else. Clubs arent as bad as they used to be though (I remember when our club started letting us wear pastel colours as well as whites), big wow!.
