I too was boarding that day (Sugar Bowl). Two takeaways: 1) Riding a nice floaty Burton Canyon I rarely could tell if the fresh snow was deeper than 12-18 inches, but twice that day I somehow sunk deeper, and the snow was breaking, just for a second or two, mid-thigh; wow! 2) If you fall or lose momentum in this much fresh snow, you're screwed! You don't get hurt; you're just going to use up a lot of time--and energy!-- to get moving again.

This happened last year in Elkins, WV- the stoke was too heavy (4ft overnight), they only had two ski patrol on deck, they cut us off after an hour of riding.

Was jsut up there for the blizzard and i normally ride homewood but i rode sugar bowl this time with some buddies but im heading back up in 2 weeks to ride homewood. Such a sick storm, although getting stuck in all that powder was a bitch to hike out of while its going up to you chest.
