So many memories Robert’ I’m in my car 2021 listening to all this music. So great full I was apart of all this music wow I hear my brother Carl Carwell Alex brown me? Wow late night stories during this album right here then we would go to Carlos and Charlie’s then penne feathers and we would be there all night. You will always be one of the great singer producer I have ever worked with. R.I.P. your sis SC.
In early 1989, I was 25 years old working as a phone operator at the Bel Age Hotel in West Hollywood. I used to get phone calls from so many entertainers that I would have convo with. People like Madonna, Larry Blackmon, Phyllis Hyman, etc. On that day in 1989 this gentleman right here called. I told him I was a big fan of his song Come to Me but didn’t know where to find. He said it was on the In the Night album which I immediately found. He sounded like such a down to earth guy
Boom!!!!! Story time!!!!! I remember seeing this video when I was 4 years old, I remembered the melody and some of the words. I would hum it periodically and feared I’d never hear the song again. I’m 37 now and was at work with a coworker and we were discussing the Isley Brothers. When talking about the Masterpiece album, he plays the song “Come To Me”. And just like that, I hear the song again. Though my heart was delighted, it sounded different. I wasn’t mad though. When I came home to hear the song again, I decided to type it in to TH-cam and finally solved a 33 year old mystery. Thank you Mr. Brookins for leaving a positive ear worm in my memory!!!! Thank you for your blessings and work!!!!!
I've been looking for this song for 37 years. I couldn't remember the name of the song. I found it listening to the 80's one hit wonders. Thank you for sharing.
I took everything thing in me not to cry my eyes out this song is a masterpiece I so miss the days when music was like this I grieve so much for these days gone by R.I.P Robert thank you sharing your talent with us you and like many artists who came and went will be sorely missed.
When there were real singers , true talent and you could _feel_ the music. I feel exactly the same about the days gone by. Thank you for your heartfelt sentiment. 💛
When I moved to Sacramento, he was one of the first musicians that I met and I sat in with him at local jam sessions. He was a great individual and very down to earth. I really miss him. R.I. P my Brotha! 💙💙
I almost burst into tears this song brought me back to my childhood I was 7 back then but this was my favorite song and over 30 yrs later I found it. And I still remembered every lyric “I got chills” I really miss the 80’s life was so easy back then music was so real. Rip to Robert I didn’t know he passed but he definitely got my attention I found you!! 💜💜💜
Mrs. Beal, I just saw this video for the first time. I was wondering who made that record. I had no idea that Robert Brookins has died until Karyn White mentioned it on " Life After" because I was also wondering why he has not came out with any new so he for so long. He was only 46 when he died in 2009 from a heart attack. He was a member of Earth, Wind, and Fire back in the late 80's, and worked with the late Wayman Tisdale and the late George Duke, Stankey Clarke, The Whispers, etc. This man was very talented. It is so sad that he died at such a young age.
I used to hear this beautiful song in LA on the radio in early 1987 and I didnt know which album it was on, only the artist name. A couple of years later 1989 I was working as a phone operator at The West Hollywood Bel Age Hotel.... I spoke to many actors and singers by phone who would call people that were staying at the Hotel. I talked to Madonna, Larry Blackmon, Regina Belle, Teddy Riley and Phyllis Hyman........... But One day this guy calls and tells me he wants to leave a message. When he tells me he is Robert Brookins... I told him I was a fan and I ask him how can I find this song and he told me it was on the In The Night album...... Totally cool guy....He is the second person along with Phyllis Hyman, who I communicated with at that Hotel that has also passed away... RIP to both
I didn't know about Robert Brookins passing. Very sorry to hear that. I remember attending a concert long ago at the Augusta, GA Civic Center with my girlfriend to see either Luther Vandross or Freddie Jackson. I can't remember which one but Stephanie Mills and Robert Brookins was there. I remember before the show started, Robert was walking around meeting fans being a real cool down to earth dude. Then he and Stephanie Mills got on stage and song Where's Is The Love, they were awesome. At the time, lot of people didn't know who he was but he was a very talented musician, song writer, arranger and singer that left us way too soon R.I. P., Mr. Brookins.
I'm od'ing on the nostalgia over here. and George Duke's mini moog solo WOW! unforgettable. totally forgot Laurence Fishburne was in the video. R.I.P. brother Robert.
I've been looking for 22yrs. I had this melody in my head for years and ultimate assisted me in the music industry. Thanks for uploading! R.I.P. Robert Brookins
I felt like I was the only fan of this song when it came out; BET supported the video but no one would talk about this song (it seems). R&b/Soul fans I felt didn't support this song the way it should've been.

OMG! I don't know where to start on This.Ok here goes! Back in 1987 I was in My Early Teens. And I was like any other Young Black Youth a Music lover of sorts. In Particular Black Music.Anyway When This Song First came out! I was Instantly Convinced that This Song was a Jam like no other. In Totality believe it or not I have only heard This Song about 3 Times back then on The Radio in Baltimore on The Old Station Music Power V-103 FM.And it was on That Year's Mothers Day in 87'. Where little did I know that I would hear This Song for The last Time.Well I had Dashed across The Street from My House to The Shopping Center at The JJ Newberry Store to get a Few Thing's and Mom a Mother's Day Card. When I got back My Female Cousin was in The Living Room Jamming to The Song.I was like! "A Yooooooooo Turn it up".And We both were just Singing Our little Hearts Out.And when it was over! I then asked Her did She record it? She said no.I said "DAMN"! WTF am I going to do Because We waited almost All Fucking Day to Hear that Song again.Sighs! Well anyway that 3rd Time was The last and Final Time that I've heard That Song ever.Until now when I just Stumbled upon it.Ya'll I've been Wrecking My Brain for Years about This Damn Song.Well I'm in My 40's now and The same Feeling that I had back in 87' about The Song is Still there. And that same Cousin of Mine had a Nerve to get amnesia on Me.See! The Problem was that I had forgotten The Artist and Title of The Song. But I remembered The Chorus,Video The Melody and The Groove. But I knew that as soon as I would ever get to see and hear The Song and or The Video again! That it all would come back to Me. Mann! I apologize to all The Commenters about This long and drawn out Story. But when I Finally Found This Song again Yesterday on July 10, 2018.After so many Years.I was just completely Overwhelmed and Estatic.Because This was My Jammmmmm!!!! Most definitely 1 of My Favorite Tunes of All Time.No doubt about it that This Jam is apart of The Soundtrack of My Life. But also on a Down Note I guess This Rediscovery is rather Bitter Sweet because I just learned that He Passed away back in April of 2009.So now I Feel kind of Cheated because I would have really appreciated to have been up on The Brotha Through out His Career until His Unfortunate Transition. But yet and still I'm very much Greatful to have been Impacted by His Musical Contributions. My Condolences to The Brookins Family.Rest in Power Brotha Robert Brookins.
The late Robert Brookins had that smooth voice and it's crazy that his similarity is like Will Downing and let's not forget that's Larry Fishburne who was onto starring in School Daze then Boyz n the Hood and the actress is Tracy Camilla Johns who played Uniqua in New Jack City.
