@@REXNOR_TV I had some really nice wallpangs to enemies peaking windows and doors. tbh body shots are hard to get but insta kill no matter the distance. same for wallpangs when enemies close at the wall
Some things either you didn't mention or I missed. The bow is smaller, being a 2 slot, meaning you can pack a 2nd two slot weapon like a sawn off rifle for covering distance better (several guns have deadeye 2 slots) or double pistols. With quartermaster you could bring a a 3 slot weapon with you, the crossbow being a 3 slot limits you to a single pistol or a 2 slot if you get quartermaster. The perks of bolt thrower and hundred hands bring the weapons to almost equal starting points, bolt thrower cuts the reload to much closer to the bows and hundred hands brings the damage of the bow to pretty close to the crossbows. The crossbow being able to have it preloaded helps in ambushes as you don't have to wait on the draw time for a one shot hit.
You are absolutely right! The weapons get compared a lot, but as you say there is a significant difference with one being a 2-slot weapon and the other a 3-slot. I like your comparison of the reload times and damage as well. I hadn't thought of it that way! The crossbow being pre-loaded is basically what I meant by saying it operates more like a rifle (I believe I compared it to the martini henry). It has a lot more mobility, but it suffers in fights where you get pushed (in which a bow could drop 3 targets almost instantly, while a crossbow would have to reload 3 times) Thank you for watching! :)
One thing you didn’t mention is just how trash the crossbows sight is. The bow has decent sights and terrific hip fire, unlike the crossbow. Also it’s so much easier to let go of one’s finger at the right time as opposed to clicking the mouse. I know that the difference is so minute but that difference can be hitting a strafing target in the chest and hitting them in the arm.
As a solo player for the most part, crossbow I tend to like better, I always run one Explosive and one regular bolt. As having that explosive to keep pressure on the enemy's is very nice. I typically run a either officer or New Army as a sidearm for fast follow ups if needed. As a solo I also run alert traps so that if I reach the boss lair first I trap the barrels and sit nearby so that I'm not getting surrounded fighting the boss and people running in if they hit a barrel I can pounce on them
Crossbow, due to rotation speed, Shotbolt, and aesthetic in Hunt. Shotbolt pens basic wood and one-shots at any range Although it has a special bolt swap bug atm, where if you swap bolt types instead of the reload button, you reload at base speed even with Bolt Thrower. That said, I still really enjoy the Hunting Bow for follow up shots, sights, hipfire, and poison. Plus it looks awesome full drawn with Bear Man lol
Love them both. For head-to-head strength I have to give the edge to the crossbow. Better secondary ammo options and no draw set up after reloading. But it’s a medium vs large slot. If I could only play one it’s bow all the way. Sooo many possibilities with Quartermaster.
As a solo, I've played with the crossbow a good amount (400 plus hours out of my 700 ish hrs). I feel the main disadvantage is that the reload is very, very loud and can give away your location. I have since then transitioned to the silenced vetterli and more recently the hunting bow. In general, I do prefer the hunting bow alot more, most notably for the ability to aim for headshots at range and the fact it is silent.
Great to hear Oliver! I am definitely a bigger fan of the bow, but having given the crossbow a real shot lately I must say it is far more fun and more effective than I expected, even with little practise!
4:11 They are incredibly usefull with trios. You can really control the battlefield when you can place concertina at range, or shell a compound to cover a push.
That's not an easy question. I've probably used the crossbow more, but I think I like the bow just a little bit better. Any weapon Crytek adds that isn't an ordinary gun always catches my interest, but there's something very special about these two. They have all the one-shot potential of a shotgun, and can be played as such, but are both far more versatile if you put in the time. What edges out the bow for me, is how funny (and genuinely useful, in compound defense) the concertina special type can be.
Crossbow: I tend to main this more often. The special ammo types can be game changers, allowing for penetration, more reliable one shot kills (shotbolt), or area damage. It's more easily usable in higher MMR's because in active firefights you frequently have minimal time to shoot and then you have to be moving again. I spent some time flipping between the Crossbow and a Romero with half slugs to see which is better. Ended up deciding that for one shot kills, shotbolts were more reliable than Slugs, but the Talon allows for faster follow ups in tense situations or with a miss and buckshot tends to be more reliable than shotbolt for penetration kills. Bows: I tend to run this more as a Quartermaster add on to a Winfield or Vetterli as I like having one shot kill options for up close. You're right in saying that it's more difficult to get to higher end skill levels. I definitely do better with a Romero Hatchet while under pressure. I excel most when ambushing with it as in higher tier play the windows to get shots in tend to be much smaller in actual firefights. To get the best value out of it I'll usually toss half ammo in for either frags or concertina so that I can get utility out of it. I do enjoy watching you play the bow so I can see what it COULD do if I was better with it. I'd enjoy seeing you run some full sized Crossbow + Quartermaster Bow loadouts.
Absolutely! I need to play some more crossbow in the coming time to get more practise in, and a crossbow + bow combo could probably be a lot of fun! :)
Great Video! With the upcoming update including the shooting range - learning to play bow and x-bow will be a lot easier, because you can train for the projectile drop. Also I'll stay an x-bow enjoyer - which will also be better with the next patch, because we get to redistribute perk points of legendary hunters for free.
Thank you! I definitely agree that the shooting range will make it much easier to practise both of these weapons! The redistribution of perk points will be a nice change for sure! 😊👍
Having tried both i think the bow is more fun. getting a perfect shot into any enemy's chest and one shotting them is extremely satisfying with none of the crossbow's required downtime afterwards. This makes me prefer the bow overall, although it loses points for making me turn off controller vibration! The heavy vibration during a held draw is Impossible to deal with. It's fun to imagine someone's face when their gun packing hunter is brought down by a pointy flying stick
Excellent guide rex! One thing that maybe was implied but not that clear to me until recently is that the trajectory (arc) of the projectile is very similar when comparing the regular xbow bolts with the regular or poison arrows of the bow.
Crossbow, hands down. When I was new it allowed me to adapt to the game at my own pace. With over 2k+ hours under my belt it’s allowed me to become a very rich Hunter. Them Crossbow flicks tho! 🤤 I’m probably just as good with the Crossbow as you are with the Hunting Bow and I’d love to share some cross paths if crossplay is ever enabled.
I love both but I definitely prefer the crossbow, bringing explosive bolts and regular is a really good combo. I get a lot of free kills using the explosive bolts around corners + the crossbow hits harder up close compared to the bow (having the crossbow reload perk is a must have with the crossbow I feel like tho)
I really like them both, but for some reason I think I prefer the crossbow because it feels sooooo deadly. The big advantage for the bow however is that it is a medium slot, so you can pair it with a 3 slot rifle. They are both great, but in a 1vs1 situation, I prefer playing the crossbow.
Great video and Thank you for posting. I am far better with the bow (Still not great) than I am with the crossbow. I would love to get better with the crossbow but the Ling reload definitely gets in my way.
the only disadvantage when i use the crossbow is that....the sight is very hard to aim right...kinda wish the crossbow have a variant that have bayonet...just in case if people push too aggressively when u tried to reload, a good stab to kill the pusher would always nice addition also the lack of cool looking skins for crossbow is a crime
Vastly prefer the crossbow personally because it’s easier/more consistent to learn and because it has Shotbolt. With the bow the projectile’s drop and velocity both change based on how far it is drawn iirc, which for me at least makes it much more of a guessing game how much I need to lead/adjust for drop on anything but full drawn shots. Mostly though I just really like Shotbolt. Unlimited range kills to the chest and the ability to penetrate both limbs and walls elevates the weapon a lot for me.
Very valid points! I agree that the bow is much harder to learn for the reasons you mentioned. I have personally played it well over 1000 hours but I remember how tricky it was in the start! Crossbow was a ton of fun though, since I haven't played it much at all!
I’d be really interested to see a full Shotbolt/bow quartermaster loadout. I usually run half Shotbolt so I can use regular ammo for AI/stealth but with bow that’s not necessary. Not a phenomenal loadout but I could see it being really fun and interesting to make work. Tag someone with the bow and then wallbang them with the Shotbolt for instance
So far I'm liking the hunting bow more than the crossbow, just in its standard variant it's much faster to reload in a fight. I'm used to long reloads as I'm a budget gamer and am no stranger to the Sparks reload but with the crossbow it's a bit scarier to be caught whiffing a shot.
it just feels so stylin when you get kills too, and it's cheap as hell and maybe the most quiet weapon in game? not sure on that last part. but it's fun!
Very interesting! I think I'm gonna put in some hours with the bow and se what I can do and learn, seems more versatile because it's a 2slot. Do you know which of the 2 has worse shot drop off, or are they similar? It seems to me the bow can shoot longer, at full draw?
If I'm able ill take both and run full explosives. No this is not strong and ammo hungry but if you ever get the chace fight a team at the ship yard boss lair. It has an open roof and frag arrows are effected by gravity. Have fun!
@@REXNOR_TV I'd recommend taking a friend with this and at least 1 ammo box. Crossbow are nice to say no to shutters and doors but the real meat it finding places to drop Frag arrows about 10 or so feet on hunters. People tend to look in the direction of noise in odd places and this at time's ends with some not running quick enough to get away
I love the bow for pushing and defending boss lairs and killing bosses. I like the handcrossbow for the same reasons - the quicker movement somehow balances out the more "single shot"-kind of feel of the crossbow, though I feel a bit less at easy pushing with the handcrossbow compared to defending. Zoning with poison bolts and killing bosses with them is pretty awesome. I tend to take a handcrossbow when my Luz mala spawns with boltthrower and take a bow when she gets hundred hands or quartermaster. Sometimes, even just dewclaw draws me into playing bow. I rarely play the big crossbow even though it makes a similarly good ai-tool and shotbolts, being able to wallbang, feel pretty neat in close-range fights - the drop is a bit steep though with shotbolt ammo and it feels better to me to shoot at long-range with the bow compared to how mid-long-range feels with shotbolts. I've taken on trios as a solo with double bow in ways that would never work with any of the crossbows, just as you outlined; reload-time, partial draws - noise comes into play too, reloading the crossbow is rather noisy, apart from it taking a felt-forever even with bolt thrower. One is hard to impossible to locate as a bow player and as soon as a crossbow player reloads, someone who is nearby gets a decent clue about where the crossbow playing is - this plays into the crossbows opportunity to reload while running, as you mentioned - but if there's nowhere else to rotate to, the crossbow is screwed (this is where "relying on sidearm" comes into play, yeah) All in all, I like having a handcrossbow with me, but the bow feels more reliable and, counterintuitively, more flexible despite the movement debuff - i guess that's why I liked your bow+handxbow loadout a lot
I have been being the Xbow for weeks now and love it with shot bolt. last few days i have tried the bow, the thing I really hate about the bow is having to hold the left mouse button down to hold the shot. I find this effects my accuracy as its an added downward pressure on the mouse and effects the fine motor function so miss shots i think i would have easy landed with xbow. Maybe that is just going to take some more time to get used to. the super accurate hip fire at close range is amazing with the bow though and follow up shots make it nice I dont not like it but I'm not sold on it yet if that makes sense. Also how about a smaller medium slot Repeating xbow that would be mad fun
Thank you for watching! The bow is a lot trickier to get used to, and it will feel weak and clunky in the beginning. The issues you are describing is exactly how it was for me when I first picked up the bow. Give it some time and it gets a lot better! :) The crossbow is a fantastic weapon, and definitely a good option if you like the primitive weapons but are not a big fan of the bow!
The crossbow is simply heavily underpriced at this point. It is comparable and arguably still superior to a Romero with with a slug yet still insanely cheaper. Yes I am factoring the accounting for the bullet drop in the equation
I find myself using poison arrows with my bow more often than not. Hunters can stop bleeding, but can't heal right away if I don't get the kill. I'm curious why you don't like them. Thanks!
Hi Implication! Objectively speaking the poison arrows are stronger than regular arrows, however because of the severely reduced ammo pool I don't feel that it is worth it. I almost exclusively run the hand crossbow with poison and choke bolts as a seondary to the bow because it brings a ton of utility that I am not willing to give up, hence running two bows is not an option for me. That leaves the option to bring ammo box(es) which would limit my consumables, and that is not worth it the way I see it as I depend on all 3 of my shots (vitality, regen and antidote) and I typically bring a frag. The final argument is that more often than not I am able to maintain enough pressure without poison arrows and so I don't feel like I need the poison effect.
I'm on the bow team, been ever since it was introduced. Are you still of the opinion that frag arrows aren't usefull? i have a lot of succes with em and always bring some when running the bow.
Frag arrows are really good if mastered, but overall I prefer regular arrows. I will be starting a frag arrow challenge on Twitch soon, so we’ll see if I change my mind after! 😊
I can definitely see how that would be the case! I haven't played the crossbow much, but I definitely felt that my overall game experience and ability to flick shots helped me tremendously. In fact it was far easier to flick shots than trying to aim using the sights!
@@REXNOR_TV 😂 all jokes aside i prefer the crossbow as a weapon i play more seriously with, whenever i run hunting bow the urge to meme is too strong lol and so the "why not both" meme makes for an interesting loadout, crossbow fully loaded with explosive bolts and hunting bow fully loaded with frag arrows i have had alot of fun using this.

The arrow drop off is easy to view and makes u think bullets drop off... I'll be making more shots
Nice 💪
The crossbow is simply heavily underpriced at this point. It is comparable and arguably still superior to a Romero with with a slug yet still insanely cheaper.
Yes I am factoring the accounting for the bullet drop in the equation
It’s quite strong! 😊
@@REXNOR_TV thanks for the reply. I'm gonna have to give that loadout a try!
im curious what is the song you play at the end of your videos
«It’s Dark In New Orleans» - Port Sulphur Band 😊
I'm on the bow team, been ever since it was introduced. Are you still of the opinion that frag arrows aren't usefull? i have a lot of succes with em and always bring some when running the bow.
Frag arrows are really good if mastered, but overall I prefer regular arrows. I will be starting a frag arrow challenge on Twitch soon, so we’ll see if I change my mind after! 😊
Sounds like a plan, long ranged window kills with frag bombs are so rewarding@@REXNOR_TV
I like to say that the crossbow is the best shotgun
Treat it like a Romero and it will serve you well
So I’ve heard! 😁
Anyone have a recommendation of budget / sweaty build with the bow? Mainly the secondary. In case I keep dying but can do decent.
Thanks!
Check out my recent video «New Meta Bow Loadout» 😁
I like the bow more cheap fast and concertina arrows can close off an area and make a miss a hit
👍
I rather use the bow. The reload time of the crossbow punishes too much my bad aim. But I love to use the explosive bolts every now and then.
I can definitely see how that would be the case! I haven't played the crossbow much, but I definitely felt that my overall game experience and ability to flick shots helped me tremendously. In fact it was far easier to flick shots than trying to aim using the sights!
1.13 is gonna be great for crossbow. Respecing a new legendary hunter to guarantee bolt thrower.
@@J.B.90 For sure!
I’d say crossbow cause it has more range and a better chance to one shot normal bow still is great though
For sure! :)
Does this game really not have bullet drop for regular weapons?
Dosen't feel like that sometimes.
Nope no bullet drop for any gun.
It does not. There are weapons that have drop though, such as the bow and crossbow, bomb lance ranged projectiles, throwing axes and knifes!
You can pull arrows out of a boss for damage!? I didn't know that! 😂
A noob, but still!! I use a bow a lot.
Yep! Check out my brand new bow guide 💪
FINALLY HAMDULLILAH 😇😂😂😂👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
😂😁
*clicks video* HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd say, a weapon is only as good as its owner ;)
Fair point! 😂
Do you think Monroe should be Barefoot?
I don't know. What does Monroe think about that?
There is no reason Monroe should have shoes on
@@makemonroebarefoot Seems like you have your answer! :)
bow over crossbow! dont like the reload on the crossbow for my playstyle
Bow gang! 😁
Bow
:D
Crossbow it was proven on stream 😂
How dare you!
For sure! :) Crossbow certainly has a good feel to it as well!
what a question at the end... u dare to ask that? :D
We have to make the crossbow users feel included! :' D
After this video I'm still bad at them 😭
Practise makes perfect! :D
