  • Chopin's dramatic Nocturne in C Minor, Op 48 No 1.
Within the landscape of nocturnes for the piano, this particular nocturne by Chopin must stand as one of the mountain peaks of the form. I once watched an interview with a respected concert pianist who said of the Rachmaninov 3rd concerto that (paraphrasing) "it is indeed an enormous task to learn all the notes. But when you have done that, you are faced with the even greater task of turning all those notes into music". And so it seems with this nocturne as well: One stands before it quite daunted, intimidated even, questioning one's ability to capture even to a small extent the scope and magnitude of the tragedy that Chopin seems to depict in it.
I hope that you will enjoy my attempt at this nocturne, and as always, thank you for listening 🙂!
