    Just a suggestion, instead of resting one of the boltcutter handle on the floor and push the other to cut it, you should also try using both hands to push the handle. See if it makes any difference. Sometimes, you just lock the bike to the pole and the chain wont be dangling on the ground, there's no (easy) way for you to use the ground as leverage if that's the case.

      @@pauliusruginis5264 so in real live that would not work since the chain is usually a little higher. You can´t reach the chain with one end of the bolt cutter resting on the ground.
      Anyway. I would not put to much thought into this. In the end these chains are a deterrent against opportunistic thieves who will drive or carry your bike away. If someone is in the professional bike stealing business he will get your bike no matter what you do (same goes for your car)

    • @CanIHasThisName
      @CanIHasThisName 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bernddemandt6170 It actually does work in real life. But you've got exactly the right point. These locks are meant to protect against opportunistic thieves. You can't defeat this lock with small cable cutters, you can't break it by yanking on the bike. And that's good enough for locking the bike outside a gas station while you're getting something to drink on a ride.

      They does not weight 100kg so it does´nt help much to thief to rest them on a ground while cutting tha chain really...But its a right point, that for a little weak thief it helps to press only one handle of a cutter, while another one is pushing against the floor like in video . So he can´t push them of his almost all body weight.Thats true

    Abus rates its 6mm chains with square links and key locks as Security Level 6 for where the risk of theft is low to medium. Abus' strongest chains are their Granit Citychain XPlus 1060 line that has 10mm hexagonal links and they rate at Security Level 15 (maximum). The 10mm chain has nearly 3x as much metal to cut through compared to the 6mm chain.

    • @AstralS7orm

    My ex boyfriend stole bikes for his heroin habit. This is why you lock your bike up with the chain not near the ground… Bike locking 101. Also for massive bolt cutter they’re $180+ USD so the addicts that steal bikes sell tools that expensive and don’t have them. And they’re massive and don’t fit in a backpack. Also this is an 8mm hardened steel chain. Try 10mm and with the chain off the ground, you won’t be able to cut them since you can’t use your weight.
    Also if you do use a u lock u the mini ones because the big ones you can switch them off with a long pipe/rebar.

    An argument for U locks?
    Some U bolt style locks stand up to bolt cutters and some don't and making the distinction between the size of bolt cutters is worthwhile as the smaller ones can be much more easily carried, are more commonly used in most scenarios, cost less and conceal easier.
    Also not using the ground with cutters is much harder.
    But still...
    Given that the brand was ABUS, square shaped links and hardened, I would have assumed, this is very disappointing especially the cut with the smaller pair of bolt cutters.
    Maybe the chain wasn't hardened security chain but the color and square shape would indicate that it was... generally...
    so it's quite disappointing and disillusioning...
    I'm pleased you used a big and small pair of bolt cutters as its an important distinction.
