I'm glad you liked that scene! However, it's not confirmed what Thomas saw was real or not. Neither is it confirmed that Edward's story is true. Was Thomas scared out of his mind for no reason, or was what he saw is real? The quote that doesn't mark any of those as facts is when Percy rolls along side Thomas at Tidmouth and Thomas says. "I may or may not have seen Edward's ghost." It's all for you to decide ;)

Everyone thought the engine may have somehow disappeared on the trip to the mainland. And if Edward knows what happened when he said "nobody can explain what happened," it's a small clue that can help you decide if what Thomas saw was real or in his mind.
You have to get the timing JUST right in order to pause the video in order to see the ghost's face, but it is genuinely horrific. Great choice on that front, or fantastic editing if you made the face.

I think the ghost engine wanted Thomas out of the Smelters Yard. Ghosts don't like trespassers.
