Sony was no camera manufacturer. Their early efforts in producing ' still ' digital camera were nothing short of comical. I had two of them. In 2006 they bought the camera manufacturing division of Konica Minolta and from there on their cameras started to look and function like a proper camera. Until the introduction of the Sony E mount in recent years, any Minolta lens, was able to be mounted onto a Sony camera, because in essence they were just Minolta cameras with Sony electronics. Fuji has a similar stroy, as in their first attempts to manufacture camera they copied Nikon. Sony do however, make top class TV and pro video cameras, but these are not what we are talking about here.
