You should start quoting metal roofing. I didn’t see if that’s a free standing building or attached to anything but where I live metal is really close to the same cost and we can install it a lot faster than shingles. We are pretty good at shingles. Did a metal roof this summer on a 30’x60’ with metal in 4hrs with 3 people. There was about an hour of pre drilling and other prep. The prep is done by one person though while the others do finishing work on soffit, facia, drip edge. Etc. I do admit it was a 4/12 but even so it’s a lot faster
I use to shingle with my pouches. Until recently I took his tips and used them. It’s a game changer. You can get more done and not feel as tired at the end of the day.
I work with my guys everyday and run my estimates in the morning and evenings. Those big companies that sub their shit out made my motto for my business “Never trust a roofer without a tan”.
How true! I have always said that you can tell a roofer by looking at the tan on his back! 🛐 I'm not really sure what that symbol stands for but it looked the part minus the whole being under the roof instead of being on it!
dustin mills so you’re saying not to trust the general contractor that has over 50 years experience but physically can’t get up on a roof all day but knows the right people to call to get the job done right? Or just a straight roofing company with a young kid that doesn’t do any work?
Coach2118 For starters, I’ve been on roofing jobs since I was old enough to climb a ladder. I’m a 6th generation roofer. Stay busy enough to pretty much do what I please, and have been on more roofs than Santa clause. Never said there was anything wrong with a guy that has a good crew and can’t handle it physically but call any of the big name companies and you get a guy that knows how to sell roofs. It gets cold over here 10 degrees Celsius is nice in the spring which is like 50 degrees ferenhiet. We have nice 30 degrees Celsius or 86 degrees ferenheit days in the summer tho. all my coworkers got Hitachi
Depends. I've had one or 2 not shoot great around 30-40 degrees F. But Isuzu turning the pressure up and some oil fixes it. However, hitachi is a pretty reliable gun in all Temps. I keep it as a back up in case that happens to the Bostich. It'll start not feeding nails like normal in the cold
One thing that helps me, is cutting my rake edge, and hip shingles ahead of time and staging them up the roof. That way when I start nailing, I don't have too stop, except too reload!
Ehh if I leave any shingles loose most of the time they're too hot work with by the time I get to them or sticking to the other ones. Take my knife out for 2 cuts is simple and easy for me. Then back to pound town

I’ve been thinking about doing my own videos I do pre metal and metal roofs shingle here and there and there’s no info about how to do metal crazy ahah
cause the next shingle above is going to be about 6 inches back from the one below it.. as u can see in the videos as u go up the roof each row is about 6 inches back from the others, so if u put a nail about 5 to 8 inches over from the first one it may land right in the seem of the ones above it..and water can get into the seems and then hit the nail and leak
Thats whats wrong with the world. The ones who produce the most make the least and the ones who produce nothing make everything. The people who do the jobs that most wont do should be the ones making the money
yea absolutely, mostly its just because of the lack of knowledge of money in general. the people who have it tough, have a tougher time surrounding themselves with the right people to gain the right knowledge, they're easily distracted and spend too much time working for their money. they never learn how to let their money work for them
@@NWIVeteranConstruction btw much respect to you man. I was in the army too and am now a roofer with my dad and uncle. We all types of roofs but mostly flat roof torch down. I live in LA and man If I was in texas I'd definitely come for you. What was your most btw. I was 13B. Red leg
I pay hourly but have all my own tools for the guys to use. Only thing is usually I want my shinglers to have their own guns and hoses. Even though I have an extra bostich n Hitachi on site. Depends on the area and the boss I'm sure everybody's a little different. Plus roofin employees are typically the biggest scum bags So giving them certain responsibilities like that could be a good move. I just don't do that coz I'm nice and care about the companies image to the home owner
Why is it disgusting for someone to be able to sell work and get someone else to do it that sounds really smart I love your channel and your attitude I like everything I understand what you're saying somewhere I was a tree climber and I definitely felt that you should be a tree climber too own a tree service or you have no idea what you are doing I don't care how many text books or classes you might have your still clueless but just to sell a job and sub it out to someone as long as they don't start telling you how to do it and you make good money what's the problem
Hi Zach, I remember you mentioned in another video the other day about having harnesses and ropes in the trailer. You said you and your guys don't like to use them. I'm up in Canada in British Columbia and the roofers up here don't like using fall arrests either but they do because they get big fines from worker's compensation if they don't. What happens when one of your young guys you've got working for you goes off a high one and is permanently disabled from it and he or his family sues your company for everything its worth and more?
Having a labor is not a bad thing whatever makes you more efficient is the best thing for roofing. Then u dont have to move up and down to get shingles.
I see them alot. I saw the worst shingler and I just don't want to make the mistake. I am doing the roof of the house I am building I work before but just like helping.
50-55 grand on a 7 for 110 straight up no extras, no gutters. Single tear off, Duration shingle equivalent. Add$ for extras. I’m a general contractor and believe me I know what it’s like grinding it out. I don’t do that bullshit, I’m a real general, in da field busting my ass with the grunts all day everyday. You need help with that 110? I'm about 1hour away from Indiana Illinois boarder.
2 of us.
My dad is retired over 30 years on the roof.
I've been on and off the roof for 30 years.
Driving over there will be noproblem.
I'm done already! sorry these video's are a little lag because I was so busy working til dark every day out there lol but you're welcome to hit me up anytime you need work.
Just wondering if it would work to have wedge shaped soles on the shoes, such that you always walk facing the ridge?
.Yours shoes end up being wedge shaped..only the wrong direction...also if you had wedge shaped shoes it would feel like you were always on a roof...lol..
Brad's a funny guy just show him how to breathe deeply anytime he gets a little anxiety 👍
That's good stuff. Looks like a great crew there. That is one huge roof job, from seein' the other videos.
I’ve been thinking about doing my own videos I do pre metal and metal roofs shingle here and there and there’s no info about how to do metal crazy ahah
If you put your bundle under the “ears” (top right corners)of the other shingles that you already laid they will stay on a 7,8,9/12
I just sfarted doing roofing i love the chalange hopeyfully i can learn more from hour videos greenbay in the hiuse
What’s the reason for the space after the first nail, then four more? I love watching experts shingle, boooom!
cause the next shingle above is going to be about 6 inches back from the one below it.. as u can see in the videos as u go up the roof each row is about 6 inches back from the others, so if u put a nail about 5 to 8 inches over from the first one it may land right in the seem of the ones above it..and water can get into the seems and then hit the nail and leak
I like the pic roofers rebelion....
Thats whats wrong with the world. The ones who produce the most make the least and the ones who produce nothing make everything. The people who do the jobs that most wont do should be the ones making the money
yea absolutely, mostly its just because of the lack of knowledge of money in general. the people who have it tough, have a tougher time surrounding themselves with the right people to gain the right knowledge, they're easily distracted and spend too much time working for their money. they never learn how to let their money work for them
@@NWIVeteranConstruction W couldnt have it better myself. But I'd like to see a revolution happen.
@@NWIVeteranConstruction btw much respect to you man. I was in the army too and am now a roofer with my dad and uncle. We all types of roofs but mostly flat roof torch down. I live in LA and man If I was in texas I'd definitely come for you. What was your most btw. I was 13B. Red leg
It would be cool to see a hammer vs nail gun video.
He said your like a Chicken Hawk. Lol
What about a battery nailer? Because the airhose is dangerous on a roof
Keep him coming 😭😂anyway I start roofing Monday so hopefully that’ll go good, been watching all your videos
awesome I'm glad you enjoyed him
Is it normal for a roofing company to pay you hourly? And make you buy the compressor and nail gun and hose
Oh and I pay by the square for shinglers. I would never shingle on the hr
Yeah I haven’t ever done roofing shingles before they’re paying me hourly
Love the content brother!! Keep up the good work. Makes me want to get out of the crane🏗 and back on the roof🏠😎
Why don’t u use cushions they help a lot when u start nailing
My house is 10/12 pitch(40 degrees)
and foam pads are a must, well, safety rope too (anything over 8/12 is high risk without rope)
What's the measurement for your starter shingles
I also hate wearing a porch or tool belt. And I also like the Bostitch guns better than any of the others that I have used!
you must be a straight savage with that kind of judgement my man! roof on brotha
I wish we got more gravy jobs like this around here
Texas roofing arm and Hammer
How do you measure your first row
Having a labor is not a bad thing whatever makes you more efficient is the best thing for roofing. Then u dont have to move up and down to get shingles.
Oh id love to come work for u guys
Good work man. I am trying to learn would you teach? Real talk..
I've got a lot of good videos. Watch the "tear off dry in put back" video. "Teaching two 20 year olds" and my "speed tips and tricks" video
Maybe when I’m 60 and broken I’ll pull that shit. I don’t use a pouch either bro.
You’re not worried about Osha or your insurance company seeing this? I mean I work like this too , except I use cougar paw boots, (changed my life) super confident with granules never ever slip. Just be careful. A lot of evidence of the dumb dangerous stuff we do
Would you come and work on my roof? I am in need of one, and watching you do it make me want to do it myself because I am too scared to do without you. Wished you were around my area. I would call you already.
why do you keep the tabs ?
Brad Rocks....
More Brad! They don’t make em like that anymore!
Brad still work for you?
How can I get your advice I’m starting some work on my own granted it’s gunna be sub work. But I mean by myself what’s the best way to message you. I have a little money and some basic tools but no air air tools
Facebook is fine. Zack ahearn
Worlds Fastest Shingler alright thanks man
Worlds Fastest Shingler I can’t find you on there for the life of me. Could you find me Daniel Abraham I have a truck and bonfire as a profile pic
I'd let that guy go. How did he turn out? Is he still working for you?
He ended up walking off a job n I ignored him for 6 months. He started back yesterday. I've known Him for 8 years. He seems better now but we will see. He's the best comic relief lol we're gonna try n get him to crack his jokes funniest person I've ever met
been there so many times, I feel your pain
Bad Brad is the Biggest "SHINER" you know ! ! !
that boys gonna shine like a star on here lol pretty soon you guys are going to wanna see him more than me lmao he's hilarious
What are you getting per square in your area these days
Every job is different but I tend to stay on the 8/12 n under so I typically charge between 260 low end and 350 on the high end.
I know a few Brads. They are funny for one day a month.
That guy is a goon. He won’t know when to knock off the shit...like shut up and get to work. Great channel brother. I help roof on weekends so I’m familiar but not a master like you.
I can feel your pain thru the video.
hahaha this day was just bad for the back, but I recover quick and I shingled something fierce today for an hr n a half for you guys virtually pain free
Using them Atlas right now..peeling each n jumping now from 42s to 39"s. They suck
Awesome job
why does brad sit down.. hahah i thought i was bad when i was always down low like a catch, most stand up and bend over.. but i crouch down... it does kill the feet after awhile tho lol..
You speak the truth brother!
Love the videos
How many times you gota tell him the proper nail pattern? Dam!
