It needed a couple holes in the top along with spaghnum moss… the holes bring in air and keep the humidity in, and some spag on the bottom under the dirt would keep the soil moist longer
I didn't put holes in the top of mine because I was concerned about the mold escaping. But, I'd be curious to hear how the holes changed the decomposition!
I did put it somewhere sunny. Kind of by accident at first, but more purposefully once things started to sprout. It has been so much fun, you'll love it!

Did you put the container in a spot that received sun regularly?
