This clip is a total gem. I saw Curved Air in 1973 when they played at Cardiff University. I was on the organising committee that booked them and got to meet the entire band including Sonja Kristina. She was stunningly lovely and extremely polite and gracious. The rest of the group behaved like absolute gentlemen. I will never forget that they wanted to find a tea shop, a contrast to almost every other band I encountered at the time which comprised drug-crazed, groupie-obsessed, ego-maniacs.
@@sergioruor Good lord! A reply to a comment I made 16 years ago. Amazing! Well thanks for your question. I believe CA's lineup at the time was the original one with the late Florian Pilkington-Miksa. Stewart Copeland was part of a later iteration of the band.
Aww Sonja, i first saw you live in the South west of England, you were BRILLIANT, will never forget that night, and after you finished the main Gig you went to play in a local nightclub and we were treated again to your beautiful voice,,,,,i think you changed my life that night,,,,,,,,if you ever read this stuff i hope you are well Sonja..
just love Curved Air..there ay many bands that wouldn't be a band without a certain individual and these are one.. yeah brilliant musicians in their own rights. without Sonia no Curved Air.. met her once.. delightful
I used to see Sonja every year at the Croiissont Nuef Tent at Glastonbury Festival. She played this year after year there in the 90s. It was always brilliant !
1971 through 72 for me is the best period of Progressive Music, before it all got over done and whilst that special spirit was still very much in the air.
Back in the 60s, Sonja came to our school, in Brentwood, as a guest singer of the school's Folk Music Society. She attended the girls' school just down the road - and was Sonja Shaw back then. I had no special reason to go, so I gave it a miss. Oh how I wish I could rewind the last 55 years!
The thing about Sonja is that not only is she beautiful and has a beautiful voice, but she seems to be a deep person. Intelligent, thoughtful, sensitive. What more could one ask?
Saw Curved Air twice in the early seventies, Saw them agaon at Sale Arts Centre last April (2012). Fabulous musicians and Sonja was absolutely brilliant, featuring this number during the set..
This is impossibly beautiful (talking about the song though of course Sonya was great too). Don't you wish you heard something like this on "The Voice" for a change? That early seventies era contains so many hidden musical gems.
13 people bothered to dislike this! Why? i fail to see how this track could annoy people enought for them to make the effort to dislike it. Nice track from one of the pioneering UK prog rock bands! Thanx for posting!
WHAT A RESULT!!!!....I'm really impressed!...First Band I ever saw.....Royal Festival Hall,South Bank,South London..1971/72....I remember rushing down the front and giving the "Peace" sign.....Francis Monkman/Darryl Way/Sonja...and how can U NOT like a Band with a Drummer called FLORIAN PILKINGTON-MIKSA!!..LOL MEMORIES!..Think I'm gonna cry!
When I was 14 in 70 This band and othr amazing progressive artist simply took my emotions and spirit far beyond my deepest imagination. i remember loving to listen to this song of Curved in the darkness of my room and drift away
The most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard. I was too young to have seen Curved Air (didn't discover their music till '84), so have yet to hear Sonja sing live; can't wait for her next gigs with MASK - her voice is still so lovely!
From one of my favourite albums of the 70s, Phantasmagoria. Amazingly creative and original. This was a stand out track. Never realised it was Sonia Kristina actually playing the guitar part.
Lovely lady falling, laughing down the glory of the rainbow Lovely lady reaching, crying for the comfort of the day-glow Melinda more or less, Melinda more or less Melinda more or less in dreams But if and when she wakes again, she knows it all begins again Sleeping, waking, rising, falling, dumb but calling out to deafened friends That's how it ends for Melinda more or less in dreams Fade Melinda, fade into fantasy Tell them you won't be played like any other instrument of fate Fade Melinda, into your fantasy Tell them you're not prepared to wait for your dream of the end Melinda more or less in dreams Lovely lady falling, laughing down the glory of the rainbow Lovely lady reaching, screaming for the comfort of the day-glow Melinda more or less, Melinda more or less Melinda more or less

How this song takes me back to when i & most other lads at my school dreamt of Sonja Kristina, beautiful song, beautiful lady, top band Curved Air!
Smashing girl, great performer, beautiful voice for a beautiful song. The beginning of the 70's was magical much thanks to music like this.
Looking back no other band encapsulates this era better than 'Curved Air'
Beautiful Sonja Kristina and a beautiful song. I love.

I would almost agree if not for Triana (1975) Celeste (1976) Sicher(1981!)...... without whom Progressive Music would be much poorer....
"whilst that special spirit was still very much in the air." LOL
very good.................................................

She was a folk musician before joining Curved Air, was a member of Strawbs before Curved Air.
