17 benefits from the story of Musa and Khidr (peace and blessings be upon them)
    1. everything happens for a reason. “and Allah knows but you do not know” [2:216] (hadith 1) It was narrated from Mus’ab bin Sa’d that his father, Sa’d bin Abu Waqqas, said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which people are most severely tested?’ He said: ‘The Prophets, then the next best and the next best. A person is tested according to his religious commitment. If he is steadfast in his religious commitment, he will be tested more severely, and if he is frail in his religious commitment, his test will be according to his commitment. Trials will continue to afflict a person until they leave him walking on the earth with no sin on him.’” (hadith 2) Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Look at those below you and do not look at those above you, for it is the best way not to belittle the favors of Allah.” ( ibn qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said) “if it wasn’t for the trials and hardships of this world, the servant would have been afflicted with arrogance, self-worship, Pharaonic self-aggrandisement, and hardness of the heart, which would have caused him to perish sooner or later.”
    2. don’t be hasty in passing judgment. don’t be quick to judge.
    3. understanding the severity of murder. Abu Bakr reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “If two Muslims confront each other with swords, both the killer and the killed will be in Hellfire.” It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, we understand for the killer, but why for the one killed?” The Prophet said, “Verily, he intended to kill his companion.”
    4. weigh the pros and the cons then take the lesser of the two evils.
    5. Allah ﷻ protects your offspring through your righteousness. here are 4 Quranic advices to raise righteous children: 1. work on yourself - don’t expect righteous children if you aren’t an example of a righteous person (but you should never think yourself as righteous) 2. pray around them 3. make dua for them 4. seek refuge from the shaytaan with regards to your children
    6. the humility of someone virtuous with someone who is less than him
    7. if you’re expertise are in one field, that shouldn’t stop you from taking knowledge from someone who’s knowledgeable in another field. Mujāhid b. Jabr said “two people don’t learn: the shy and the arrogant.”
    8. having manners with your teacher
    9. leave your publicity to go and seek knowledge
    10. to attain beneficial knowledge you need to work hard, ask Allah ﷻ to grant you understanding and ask Allah ﷻ for forgiveness
    11. be patient with your teacher’s harshness. the poet says “whoever isn’t patient with the hardships of learning knowledge for an hour will drink ignorance for the rest of his life”
    12. one of the ways to attain patience is to know what you’re getting yourself into
    13. understand the importance of seeking knowledge. the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever follows a path to seek knowledge, Allah will make the path to Jannah (Paradise) easy for them.” If you lack knowledge of Islam, you lack the ammunition your heart needs to fortify itself from the doubts and whispers.
    14. somebody might be working but it might not be enough to sustain them, so they may still be eligible for zakah. so don’t judge a book by it’s cover.
    15. you can use the wealth of others if it will bring a benefit or stop a calamity
    16. don’t hold people accountable for what they do out of forgetfulness
    17. say ‘inshaallah’ when you say you will do something
