    We had a Sea King 5 hp back in the day, circa 1970. It was on a 12’ Wards v hull aluminum boat. Our motor was a little different, but not by much, or it could be my memory. That little 2 cylinder 5 hp could pull a kid on a skimboard easily…it had a lot of power for a 5. Ours was blue, had the gas tank on top, a slide knob throttle, and the mixture twist knob. For reverse the motor had to be spun 180 degrees to go backwards.
    I would love to see a water test on a 12’ boat.

      Are you sure your motor has a pump? IF i recall you should have the tank above the motor like this one. If so something is clogged somewhere fuel wise assuming your compression is ok and spark it working! let me know I would love to help more!! Thank ALSO dont for get to sub up!!!

    Years ago before they sold coils for these we used duco cement to glue the coils back together and a piece of tape on the bottom to insulate the ignition plate. Ran good.

    Hey Bill, I have a 58 Sea King 3. I am curious about the little impeller piece, do you grease that part? The service manual I have found for it, and the Gale motors manual (seems like the same exact motor) doesn't say anything about lubrication for that area. Just the grease for the lower unit is mentioned. I am hesitant to grease it because of how it works, I don't want grease up in the water inlet, water tube, etc....
    EDIT: The area did have a bunch of grease when I took it apart though... I am curious to see if the prop shaft seal is going to be leaking grease from the lower unit.

      @BlackoutBilll21  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They don’t make seals for that one anymore so most likely they were using grease to hold water out. Do NOT grease the water “impeller” or wobbler as it is usually called!

      @@BlackoutBilll21 Thanks! Any ideas on resealing the cylinder head cap? I removed it not knowing it isn't supposed to be removed. I was thinking steel epoxy but not sure about the heat.

      @steveburke3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because it is leaking.... :(

      @@steveburke3 unfortunately no. I’m bad at customization lol. Bolt on bolt off for me… I would try permatex gasket maker or they make a steal epoxy.

      Is it a direct drive? Or does it have a shifter for reverse?

    This was truly helpful! It's hard to find good information about this motor. Where did you do most of your research?

      You’re looking at it my brother lol this google and iboats. Plus once you realize this motor is basically the same as Johnson’s and Evinrude it’s pretty much all the same
