The melody is actually from a very popular church psalm called "Härlig är jorden" (which can be roughly translated as "Lovely is the earth") and it's one of the most well known psalms here in Sweden.
Even those who don't attend Church on a weekly basis (which is the majority of the population, as we're all godless heathens) knows this specific psalm.

    1. Joachim isn't wearing his sunglasses;
    2. Joachim hits the table, not his knee;

"För Sverige i Tiden" is the current monarch motto, Means "For Sweden with the times." He is a quite modern monarch, and also quite popular. I don't care so much for my government, but I will fight to my death for my king.

Love your reaction to the song. I did my military service at Livgardet; proud to have been a small part of the regiment.
A few explenations: "Anor från blott 16 man" (Originates from just 16 men) = the regiment originates from just 16 men originally. 16 men from Darcarlia originally formed the Life Guard for Gustav Vasa, our king who drove out the Danes.
Knä om knä Livgardet går (Knee upon knee the Life Guard march) = The military tactic, they marched close-knited (their knees next to each others knees) against their enemies until "they coukd see the whites of their eyes" before they fired.
För Sdverige i Tiden, Det gör vad som Synes Omöjligt = (For Sweden, in our time. They Do What Appears To be Impossible"). First the motto of the current king, and then the motto of the Life Guard.

Absolutely check out the English one :)
Just like the album Carolus Rex, every other track originally in Swedish has an English version because they value their international fans.
The video for The Royal Guard (the English version of Livgardet) takes place just before this one, its like a two-part video. The English version is an early battle, and then this video follows with the planning and strategy session as they prepare for the rest of the war.
There are no parts of any actual anthems (the Swedish national one or any other) in this song but I wholheartedly agree that it sounds like it - it has that epic quality that characterises an anthem.
As always, great fun to spend some time with you :D
    Thanks for sharing your awesome

The melody is actually from Härlig Är Jorden (roughly translated as Lovely is the Earth) which is a Swedish psalm. Used very much during funerals.

Great reaction! In the past Livgardet was the elite of the elite soldiers in Europe, only the best most loyal soldiers got to join Livgardet.
You should check out the English version of this song too named "The Royal Guard", it shows a good example on how elite the guard was as the English version is about the skirmish in Bender that the royal guard took part in.

The first melody you hear is taken from a Christian hymn "Fairest Lord Jesus", also known as "Beautiful Savior". Try to listen to the Swedish version of it called "Deilig er jorden". You'll swear you just heard Sabaton's Livgardet lyrics instead lmao

Indeed there is true loylty. Their oath is to the crown. Not the king. The king wears the rown, and thus must be protected. But the oath to the crown, regardless of who wears it. Almos the same in Denmark, except our LIvgarden swears fealty to the royal house in its entirety.
and that sense of something you mention. Its a sense of purpose. A sense of having found exactly where you belong in life. Between your King/Queen and whoever is foolish enough to threaten him/her.

The English version of the video is more epic, regardless of the lyrics. It is more on one specific fight, while the lyrics remain about the regimental history in general.

From the frozen North, they came
    Fought for founding father's claim
It was then, their tale began
Trace their roots from sixteen strong
By their King where they belong
    En tid, Av Krig
    Wherever he goes
Near or far, they are close
For the King of Sweden, they lay down their lives
For the Swedish crown, they stand
By their King at his command
Five hundred years, for the fatherland
    Marching across the belt
    Crushing blow at Narva dеalt
    Livgardet, our royal guard
    Sworn protectors of the thronе
    Royal doctrine set in stone
For the crown you shall give your life
    By traditions from the past
    Swedish soldiers stand steadfast
    I frid, och i strid
    And if one shall fall
    Yet another heeds the call
For King and for country, they lay down their lives
For the Swedish crown, they stand
By their King at his command
Five hundred years for the fatherland
    Marching across the belt
    Crushing blow at Narva dealt
    Livgardet, our royal guard
    För Sverige i tiden
    Dit konungen går
De gör vad som synes omöjligt
    Vad än framtiden spår
    Wherever he goes
Near or far, they are close
For the King of Sweden, they lay down their lives
Still for the crown, they stand
By their King at his command
Five hundred years for the fatherland
    Marching across the belt
    Crushing blow at Narva dealt
    Livgardet, our royal guard
Thought i moght just as well put the english lyrics up.

Sabaton played in occupied Crimea at Putin's propaganda festival organized by the Night Wolves. Therefore, they were not allowed to participate in the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Swedish Royal Guard.
