    Have you rolled and felt completely out of your depth? Ever been rolled hard by a world champion? The most confronting thing is when you are a white belt rolling with a Black belt- the skill difference is impossible to fully understand. The same can be said for an regular Black Belt rolling a World Champion. JT & Joey share their own experiences trying to deal with a massive skill difference, fighting for their lives and dealing with physical hostility. Also how to deal with the crushing feeling that you know nothing even though you have trained hard for a good period of time.

    Sometimes when watching comp-teams at the highest level, I'm reminded of that scene in "Dune" where the surviving Sardaukar are being anointed with the blood of the weak who were sacrificed as punishment for their failure. th-cam.com/video/SozKIGICHd0/w-d-xo.html

    The first time you actually pose a threat to a higher rank and they turn it up on you, you realise all those other beatings they were actually going easy on you. Great moment

      @@csranuic Yeah, he smashed me for three minutes straight, passed me, took my back, and then told me my deep half was getting too good, he had to increase his efforts. (I had swept him with it last week, so I paid for it this week!) Of course, I took it as a compliment! A very painful compliment!

    Black belt here . Secrets to the lower belts : the beatings never end . It just gets less but trust me jiu jitsu will always keep you humble .

      Seasoned grappler here. Been rolling since early 20s. The beatings get less worst, way less worst, feels good not to have to survive each week. I'm realizing a huge dream so to speak. I'm among the few ones who can deliver some beatings depending on whom I'm rolling with.
      But yet, if I tag a high level comp brown, I'm more likely to get a beating, but they usually dont roll 2 weeks in a row with me, I keep a count and get better.

  • @tededo
    @tededo ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The last one to beat me up was a 21 yo high level comp brown belt. His skill level is that of a BJJ black belt. I taped about a dozen times in 6 minutes. Then he gave me private lessons. I finally learned that most BJJ black belts keep secrets from their students. Taught me stuffs that only high level guys know.
    This reminds me when I boxed for 25 years and was a top level amateur, then sparred pro boxers who gave me solid whoop. But their secrets was in the steroids, HG and T they took from their confessions I recall.

  • @fabriciocordeiro921

    Time compounds, right? Of course it's not about just showing up; you guys talk about this all the time: you need to take care of yourself, you need to respect your body, you need to stretch regularly, be disciplined, have focus, have a diet, be a good training partner... all of those things sum up, definetely. However, mat time does a huge difference. Just started to roll last week after three and a half months of fundamentals and when I look at a colour belt the first thing I virtually see written on those colours is "Time". Thanks again for the great content! Cheers!

    My wrist has been hurting for like 2 weeks now after two different blue belts went to work on me as a few stripe white belt. I swear I got a concussion too. Ugh. And I can't say hey man can you not break my wrist?

    Or a white belt vs a white belt who’s been a “white belt” for 7 years but won’t move on… Shit is not fun.

    Take a look at most sports, most hobbies, most martial arts. Rare you'll see high level skilled people training in the same room with noob and intermed. That freak reality hit me hard when I joined a BJJ class for the first time.
    I wrestled few years and never even remember training on a regular basis with D1, never. They wont allow that.
    BJJ issue (among so many issues, boy I've seen a sport plagued with issues like that) is they mix all levels, so beatings are more likely to happend frequently and lower belts to layoff or quit. You cant do that.
    One day, maybe a century from now, this sport will evolve and in order to have access to guys like Galvao or Keenan, you'll have to pay a high pricing entry.

    how would you approach bjj after being healthy and getting struck with chronic illness that affects your ability to train and you can't keep up the tempo as everyone else?

    • @matthewcrawford4216
      @matthewcrawford4216 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Train at your level. Choose who you want to roll with!

    • @bulletproofforbjj
      @bulletproofforbjj  ปีที่แล้ว

      Change your expectation. Managing chronic illness is a huge battle. As long as yo9u are gradually getting healthier and you can roll then you are on the right track. Health is your baseline measurement. Once you can consistently feel healthy then push your bjj.

    most of the champions prefere not roll with people at seminars ,they often find people that try to kill them to show how they are tougth ,if they roll they usually dont let you put them in danger ...Langhi rolled with my son when he was 12 or 13 orange belt and didnt let him move a inch for 5 minutetes

    Im a white belt. My coach has an amazing way of rolling with his students by always putting on just enough pressure to get the best out of you. But i would see his intensity differences with the different levels. One roll i just said it, "dont hold back, i actually want to see what this is like at the high level". I was in awe. Shit was art. Painful art. But art non the less.
